The moon rose above the mountains. Installing a glow along the peaks. A gloomy sense of eeriness smeared the surface as the fog of clouds slithered silently like snakes along the valleys.

A road created among these mountains to connect one city to the next was always so desolate at this time of night.

And yet amidst this eerie quietness, there was a painful sound of a young woman mourning.

Her long black hair pasted across her face due to sweat and her beautiful porcelain face was scrunched in agony as she mustered all of her strength to lift herself from the ground.

The wound in her abdomen had still not been attended to, it kept ripping open and shedding fresh blood.

Drip drop, like a loose tap, the blood left a trail after her steps.

With both hands grasping her abdomen and fuelled by the will to live, she tottered with each agonising step.

As she pushed herself to extreme on this endless road in the middle of nowhere, she kept losing her balance and falling over.

After yet another fall, she lay face down on the ground with tears smearing her eyelids as she thought of giving up.

However just as she was about to close her eyes, the sound the child's crying fuelled her once more. She had to survive this to get her child back.

And so, with each grunt of pain she forced her whole body to get up and keep moving.

She did not know how much time had passed; it had felt like hours in this darkened wilderness.

Then suddenly, she saw two beams of lights approaching her from a distance. Her heart quickly accelerated with hope and excitement.

"S-save me!" Her cracked throat released a croaky sound.

Like a mad man, she accelerated her footsteps, waving her hands desperately to the approaching car.

The car approaching suddenly broke into a screeching stop, missing her by just an inch while it turned to side of the road to avoid crashing into her.

The woman fell to the ground, the finality of her strength completely exhausted. Black spots kept obscuring her vision but this time she did not fight it.

Save me. I want to live.

It her was last final thought before she submitted to the blackness.

Meanwhile in the car, the driver was gasping in panic.

"Chairman Sir, are you alright." He asked his boss who sat in the backseat.

The chairman had grasped the car handles with all his might.

"Driver Chu are you crazy, why did you break all of the sudden?"

"Chairman sir, I really apologise but I saw a woman in the middle of the road." The driver explained.

The chairman's frown deepened. Then turned back and saw that indeed Driver Chu was not lying. There was woman lying on the ground behind them.

"Quick! Go check if she's alright." The chairman ordered.

Driver Chu immediately left the car and jogged toward where the woman had collapsed.

Meanwhile, the chairman was grasping his heart to calm himself down.

"This pile of old bones really cannot get frightened, simply cannot." He muttered to himself.

Then he pulled out his hand phone and dialled a string of numbers. First, he dialled for his doctor and asked him to meet in the nearest hospital in Z city. Then he dialled for his assistant and ordered him to call the police and inform his lawyer.

One hour later, Driver Chu, the chairman and his assistant all sat in the hallway waiting for the surgery lights to turn green.

The woman they rescued was in dire straits. According to the doctor, had they received her just twenty minutes later, she would have long made her way to the underworld.

Recalling this, the chairman grasped his walking stick tightly while his frown deepened with worry.

"Assistant Wang, have the police been informed?" The Chairman spoke to his assistant.

"Yes, Chairman Jiang, they're currently investigating the area. They promised to inform us if there's any new information."

"It's so strange, Driver Chu did not hit her at all, where did all of her injuries come from?" Chairman Jiang contemplated.

"Chairman, we will find out once her surgery is successful.

"Hmm."

Another two hours later, Chairman Jiang walked with a frown still marring his face. In the ICU room, the woman lay with all the hospital equipment connected to her.

He did not know why he persisted on staying there for this long. Usually if he encountered an accident like this, he would leave it for Assistant Wang to deal with.

And yet there was something drawing him to that poor child. He did not know whether it was the mystery surrounding her.

So far, he'd been informed that there was no evidence suggesting any foul play surrounding the area they had found her in. It was as if she appeared from thin air with all these injuries.

"Doctor Lian, in the end, what's the matter with her?" Chairman Jiang asked his family doctor who was currently checking her vitals.

"It's very strange how the police have not seen anything suspicious." Doctor Lian began.

"The hormones in her blood suggest that she was pregnant to full term and appears to have had a bad attempt at a Caesarean section on her stomach. The muscle relaxants in her blood also suggest it was done so without anaesthesia. This is a very traumatic experience to the body and mind."

"Thankfully she's alive, however the damage to her uterus is too great. If she doesn't recover well, I fear there's a chance she will no longer bear any children in the future."

Chairman Jiang felt shocked, his scowl deepened.

"You're telling me she was with child? But the police said there was no evidence of any child or any facility surrounding that area."

"I have some theories. But until she awakens and tells us who she is, my guesses will just remain baseless."

"Doctor Lian what are you thinking?" Chairman Jiang asked.

"I'm thinking she might have been abducted and those criminals forcefully took her child from her. And afterwards left her in a different location to die."

Chairman Jiang shivered. Although he was not completely innocent as he had accomplices from that world. However, his family was still clean as day and still obeyed the national laws. That was why Chairman Jiang had gotten assistant Wang to inform the police immediately after almost hitting her.

He had followed the procedures that were according to the law.

"Chairman, there's also something you should know." Doctor Lian spoke.

"She has that peculiar butterfly birthmark on the back of her right shoulder. The same birthmark that your son had."

Chairman Jiang felt his knees wavering at the news.

"What are you saying?"

"Chairman, I'm saying there might be possibility that she's the child you've been searching for all these years."
