Chereads / NATHANIEL:INTO THE DARK VERSES / Chapter 9 - Pearlbrich Town

Chapter 9 - Pearlbrich Town

The night sky was dark and starry. Sire sat there by the window as she stared up at the sky. Her hands supporting her chin. A sigh escaped her lips. She tilted her head to a side and half smiled. A hopeful and sad smile. Her eyes then shifted from that beautiful sky she'd been looking at and now she stared directly at the trees ahead.

"There's so much dark energy around here." She murmured to herself with a sour expression. She sighed again. Soon after, the door opened and her face suddenly lit up. Nathan was back from his long day of work. "Finally." She said aloud as she turned to him. He walked in quietly, closing the door behind him. He didn't say a word. "You're home and you can take off your hood now."She smiled as she spoke. And just like she said,he took off his hood still not saying a word. He stood for a bit then dipped his hand in his bag. Sire didn't see what was coming. Just a clothing that was thrown her direction that covered her face. She immediately pulled it away. Standing up and staring confused at it. She spread it trying to make out what it was.

"A cloak?!." She seemed surprised as she spoke.

"Yes?Is there a problem with that?." Nathan asked ever so calmly.

"What i'm i supposed to do with it?." Sire asked. Her eyes almost popping out. With her question Nathan turned leaning back, his arms folded as he stared at her.

"Do you really intend on going about wearing that?." He raised a brow? Sire looked down at her dress. It was torn and really barely covered her. Half of her lady like curves were exposed. The bruises were almost gone already.

"Okay,i understand your predicaments but..."

"But..?." Nathan cut in her sentence.

"Never mind." She smiled.

"Are you okay with it being white?." Nathan asked after a little stretch of silence between them.

"Of course. White is my thing. Besides,i have worn white almost all my life." She smiled yet again. Nathan creased his brows at her words. How on earth could someone have possibly worn white all her life? This girl Sire never really seased to amuse him since the very first time she uttered a word.

"You should get some sleep if you want to properly heal." He said turning to the kitchen.

"And what about our dinner?." She asked immediately.

"There's nothing for dinner." He said plainly.

"Oh." She said. Her voice sounded so very disappointed. She had really been looking forward to having that dinner. Nathan thought. With a sigh,he dipped his hand in his bag, pulling out something he threw it to her.

"Ow!." Was the sharpest reply he received. He quickly turned to her. She was rubbing her eye and bent to pick what he'd thrown. Bringing it close enough she unwrapped it. She had on an unpleasant look as she looked up at him.

"What is this?." She asked him.

"What ever you think it is." He replied turning away.

"Well i want potatoes not this."

"That's all you can have Sire. You take it or leave it." He said and continued with what he was about doing.

"Fine then. Good night Nathan." She bowed and walked over to pick the blankets, she spread it on the floor and lay quietly. Not even a single sound escape.

"Unbelievable. So you'll sleep hungry?."He asked. Sire didn't answer. She just stayed still and said nothing. That was enough of an answer to Nathan since he was a quiet guy too. "As you wish." He said lastly walking into the kitchen.

Then came some minutes before he stepped out, holding a plate of the potatoes he'd denied the girl of. Only to his surprise she was fast asleep. He felt disappointed but let her rest. Tomorrow she wouldn't stay back here doing nothing so she needed that rest anyway. Not bothering her. He picked up the wrap of chicken she had denied and went to sit. He dined quietly then soon enough had his rest as well.

Sire sat up with a yawn. Rubbing her eyes. She turned to look round the room almost in alert on not finding her partner. Her gaze softened when he walked in with a basket full of grapes. She blinked innocently at him.

"I'll show you were you can have your bath."

He said as soon as he noticed she was awake. He placed the basket in the kitchen and waited for her to get up so he would lead the way.

Sire held close to herself the cloak and all Nathan had given her as she followed quietly behind him. She didn't say a word and neither did he. Soon enough they arrived at a pond. He then walked ahead of her since she went ahead to drop her clothes under a tree. He placed his hand in the water.

"Its alright. You can have your bath here." He said turning to a half naked Sire under the tree. He yelped and immediately shut his eyes at the sight of her admirable curves. Sire who had been innocently trying to hold up her hair was in utter confusion.

"What's wrong Nathan?Wasn't i supposed to undress?." She asked him.

"What's wrong?! You could have at least waited till i..ugh!!." He groaned and immediately left the place as fast as he could. He left her there.

Sire watched as he hurriedly left. Maybe undressing while he was still there wasn't the best way to save time. She shrugged stepping into the cool and shallow pond.

Nathan shut the door behind him. What on earth had just happened?? Did Sire really undress while he was still there?! That girl was a crazy phsycopath. But of course,he would have known. She was infact even the first person he had ever seen with golden eyes. She just always seemed strange since the very first day she spoke to him. Yet again he had to admit she was perfect. Enough to taint the pure intentions of a man towards her. He couldn't help but try to wonder what it was that had led her to the woods in that state that day.

Sire walked towards the cottage. She was done with her bath all dressed in her cloak. Of course it seemed bigger than her but that was just what Nathan wanted. Not have her bring any attention. Sire was ready for the day with her partner. Her hair was let down in waves and hadn't taken time to dry at all. As she walked into the cottage,it was empty. There wasn't a sign of Nathan. Quite in question of where he had gone she stepped out once more. Her eyes wondered about before she thought to check out back. Just like she thought,Nathan was out back. Her eyes first fell on the bag of apples. Only that they grew wide on seeing the mighty stallion he was feeding. Her soft and noticeable gasp called his attention and he turned to notice her. She was quick and came to stand beside him and the stallion.

"Wow. Is this yours?." She asked him as she hurried to pet it. It was dark and mighty. Its main was soft and silky too.

"Mmm." Was his simple reply.

"I had alot of these back home. Sadly i didn't have the time to carry it around. Are we riding on it?." She asked. Nathan turned to her excitement filled eyes. Funny how he felt an excitement in telling her they were riding on the mighty stallion.

"Yes we are." He replied her. Her face suddenly brightened. He could see that she couldn't even wait to climb on it. She kept on petting it. As the thought of returning the horse crossed his mind he stared at her in pitty. He'd borrowed it from town after tossing a few shillings in the mans hand. Oh well she would have to deal with it. After today she wouldn't see the horse again.

"Would letting your hair down not be a bother?." He asked.

Sire turned to face Nathan. She pushed some of the hair behind her ear. "I'll be fine."She said with a simple smile. Nathan didn't really understand that. She turned back to what she was doing. After the answer he received,he left his spot, walking slowly to were she stood. He stood behind her.

Sire felt the back of her neck tingle. She turned to sight Nathan behind her. "Stay still." He warned returning to what he was doing. He was braiding her hair. Just as told, she turned away. Facing the stallion and petting it. Only this time she felt different. Her neck was tingling with the touch of his finger. She let out a laugh.

"What's funny?." He asked immediately. The girl didn't answer.

"So you know how to braid? Have you been learning to do that with your hair?." She asked mockingly.

Nathan rolled his eyes while she laughed at her own joke. "I don't braid my hair. For men its irritating to do lady like things." He said and she laughed hard. "Stay still." He repeated.

"My apologies sir." Her voice still reeked of the mockery. He just knew this joke would last as long as it was hers.

Nathan, being done with the braid tied its end with a white ribbon. That was the finishing touch. He said those words aloud in his head just like Vivian use to say. Him learning to braid was all her work. He smiled faintly at the faint memories of his long seen baby cousin. That one he'd almost dropped when she was a new born.

"Are you done?." She asked him. Interrupting his thoughts.

"Turn around." He ordered and she did just that. He was almost done but she looked as adorable as ever with her hair braided back. Nathan gently picked out the unruly strands of her golden blonde hair, leaving them to make the braid look better in front. Being done with that he held her hood and covered it.

"Now you're done?." She asked blinking at him a bit. Her smile was even weirder this way. Not answering her he turned and picked the bag with the remaining apples.

"You wait here." He said as he went ahead to take it in. Sire did as he said. Waiting by the stallion. She looked as bright as the morning sun. Enthusiastic and radiant. It was almost as though nothing in the world could stop her from giving out that which she had. That brightness. Her smile was never dying, despite the fact she was far from home she smiled with hope.

Sire watched as Nathan rode the horse to the path leading into the woods.

"Aren't you climbing?." He asked when he just noticed the girl staring.

"Oh,i'll just..." Before she could finish her statement Nathan stretched out his hand. She looked up at him but he wasn't even looking her direction. Being quick enough she took it and he pulled her up. Placing her to sit in front of him.

"Hold on tight." He said as they began riding. At first Sire found it frightening. The rate at which he was riding was fast. So fast she'd let loose her grip and grabbed him instead. With her reaction he was forced to pull over. Even still she refused to let go.

"How on earth could you be frightened by horse riding Sire?!." His voice illuminated how annoyed he was.

"Because i haven't done this before!." Her tone was same as Nathan's. Showing that she wasn't any less annoyed with him. Her grip on his clothes losened as she hopped down the horse in such a haste Nathan couldn't make out what was happening. He watched her run over and throw her self to the ground. Her groans followed next. His eyes widened in realization. Was she vomiting?!

Even at realizing this Nathan didn't flinch. This was a waste of time he thought to himself. Why ride with him if she knew she couldn't?!

Sire turned to something hitting her forehead head. "Ouch." She mumbled rubbing the spot.

"Some water." He said plainly turning to face his front.

Her hand reached for the bottle and she picked it up. Trying not to mind the grumpiness of her partner. After a little while she stood straight. He watched as she headed for the horse. Wasn't this the same person who had been so excited for the ride earlier? He wondered if the excitement vanished.

As she walked over he helped her up. Her face was pale and she was in no mood to talk. It made him want to laugh out loud but since it was no joke to her he had no right to laugh either. She climbed the horse and he made a little change in the way he rode this time. They were already almost in town anyway..

The town of Pearlbrich, the captital to Gradenhill was as busy as always. With the town'sfolks running their daily lives like they always did.

Sire was woken by the noise as they arrived. She'd fallen asleep sometime after they started riding again. Nathan had rode smoothly to not trigger this sensitive partner of his. In return she had only fallen sound asleep before they arrived town.

Her eyes slowly opened with the noise that went on. It was almost as if something was going on. But as she rubbed her pretty gold eyes and let them be,excitement came in. So this was the nice society her partner had left behind to live in the dark and empty woods. Nathan immediately noted Sire was awake from all the movement.

"Don't make a sound." His cold and so strict voice sent a shiver down her spine as he spoke. Slowly she retraced obediently and said nothing. With this girl on his horse he knew they were bound to get unnecessary and unneeded attention from the folks of this town. That kind of attention was infact not what he needed right now. He went ahead deep into town.

As Sire sat quietly and let Nathan ride, her wondering eyes met with the sword he called his own. She had sighted that sword with him for a little bit now. It made her wonder how he got it and if she could have one too. Something sharp and dangerous.

"Nathan." She called his name he didn't answer yet she went ahead to ask. " Can i have my own sword?. Sharp and unique as yours?." She asked.

Nathan looked down at her. He didn't answer and just kept riding. She didn't bother saying anymore.
