Disturbing their peaceful sleep and forcing them awake was the warm sunlight rays shining through the windows and onto their faces, causing their eyes to twitch a bit. Some of them got up yawning and stretching. Others turned into a different sleeping position and carried on snoring. Raten rubbed his eyes as he got up from bed.
"That was enough rest," He said to himself. He picked up the pocket watch he had bought while in Raldon. He looked at it and his eyeballs almost shot out of his eyes upon seeing the time. "8.45am?!" He yelled. His loud voice had woken the the others whom were still asleep.
"You mean it's?" Damien said getting up. "Class starts in a few minutes!" He shouted and ran out of the room. He then returned to search for his uniform.
"Get up, you sloth! We're late!" Raten should pushing Kiyan off his bed.
"How's it that everyone in this room slept in?!" Wallace shouted in frustration trying to find his towel. They all searched for their uniforms and ran out of their room. While others were dressed already, heading for class and some still leaving the bathhouse, these roommates were running to get bathed. They bumped into Jarett on their way.
"Woah! You're just waking up?" He asked clearly surprised. The twins and Lecter had stopped when he spoke. "Didn't you hear the alarm?"
"There was an alarm?!" Lecter responded.
"We have to hurry." Kiyan said and they pushed on forward. The six of them, hurried into the bath house and started taking their baths while struggling to take their clothes off. They tried to do both at once and it really wasn't working out. One at a time would have done the trick.
Their reason to hurry though, was valid. Their first class was basic magic which will be taught by Sir Chadwick. He didn't seem like someone who would tolerate tardiness. Honestly, they didn't want to be late on their first day, not to talk of getting into trouble with one of the teachers.
With hurried steps, they returned to their dorm room to put on their uniforms. It was a simple open cloak worn like a jacket with a gem-like hook on it crossing over the chests, joining both sides of the cloak which was worn over a long sleeved shirt and trousers. Unsurprisingly, everything was coloured black and loose. They couldn't stop to see how they looked like in their attire as they ran down the stairs and out of the tower forcing the clothes onto their bodies.
"Lecter hurry up!" Kiyan shouted from outside at Lecter who was still coming down the stairs.
"I'm coming!" He answered. They kept running towards the school's main building pulling their trousers up, putting their arms into their cloaks, taking up their trousers. Everything was a mess on their bodies.
"How is this supposed to be worn?!" Rodney yelled in frustration. He just couldn't get the last bit of clothing on right.
"It's worn like a jacket!" Wallace answered putting on his own.
"Then join the gems together!" Raten added. Rodney looked at them both and copied what they did while still running. The six of them weren't the only late ones. There were five more boys running out with them.
Lecter hopped on one foot trying to put on his footwear. He missed a step and fell to the floor. "Crap!" He yelled. Luckily it was on the marble made path from tower to academy building which didn't get him dirty.
"Wait! Are we forgetting something?" Damien suddenly asked. They all stopped in realization.
"The books!" They said in unison.
"Oh, come on!" Shouted Kiyan. Now they had to run back to the tower, back to the third floor, and into their room, open their respective drawers and take their books from it. atge books were already in the drawers when they arrived and they were told by Sir Chadwick they would need it for class.
"Why is today like this?!" Lecter said getting up and running back with them. "I'll probably lose some weight before getting to class."
"That wouldn't be so bad." Wallace chuckled at the chubby lad. Almost out of breath, they all made to get their books.
"I don't, I don't think I can run back down these stairs." Said Damien breathing heavily. Not just him, they all thought the same. Almost got into school after running down that flight of stairs only to run back up. At this point they could just forfeit the day's class. But, what impression would that leave?
"We are already late. We can just walk down to that building and then 'hurriedly' find our way to that huge lesson hall." Wallace said and they nodded in agreement. Though their steps were quick, they weren't running down anymore and just accepted that they were late. They took some time to dress properly, but were all forgetting one part, the hair on their heads.
Their hairs were still wet after running out of the bathroom and into their rooms to get dressed, half of them didn't even touch it. It was wet and shaggy. The most that was done was running fingers through them to untangle it while they came down. The two who had curly hair - Lecter and Rodney - looked worse out of the lot.
"This is not the first day look I envisioned." Rodney said.
"I look like a porcupine with this on my head." Lecter complained.
"Why? it's not that bad." Raten muffled a laugh as he took a closer look at his friend.
"You both look like porcupines!" Kiyan laughed and pointed at both Lecter and Rodney. Raten, Wallace and Damien joined in annoying the other two a bit.
"I don't know why you three are so relaxed, we all might, and most likely will, get in trouble." Rodney said and walked faster ahead.
"Rather than worry about that Rodney, look up at the morning sky, isn't it beautiful?" Wallace said with a smile.
"Honestly, I am more worried about Sir Chadwick's reaction to our lateness." Raten said and picked up pace as well. They walked into the building and now ran about in search of the class.
"We need the stairs, don't we?" Kiyan asked.
"I thought we didn't take the stairs to the class yesterday." Said Lecter.
"Of course we did, how can you forget so easily?" Rodney said walking towards the stairs with the others behind him. Luckily, they had to only think of where they wanted to be and the stairs directed them. The twirly one they stood on, then formed a vertical staircase, leading in the direction of the class.
They began running once more up the stairs to the passage where one of the doors was their classroom. There was a total of five doors and they weren't sure which one was the right one.
"It has to be that one." Lecter pointed at the door farthest away.
"How on earth do you think that's the one?" Said Damien. "I do remember we were told to stay away from that specific room."
"It's this one!" Raten pointed to the left. The fourth door which clearly had the words 'basic magic' written on it.
"Good eye." Wallace patted his shoulder and they walked towards it. Kiyan was about to open the door but was stopped by Rodney.
"Wait!" He said.
"What?" His roommates asked in unison.
"Are we really going to walk in like this? We need to be stealthy. I, I, don't want to get caught." He said.
"Nobody here planned on barging in." Damien replied. "You are right though, slow and stealthy." He whispered.
They then crouched down, opening the doors slowly to avoid any sort of noise. Raten peeped in to see if Chadwick was looking in the direction of the door. What he saw was they were at the door of the very back which meant the last step in auditorium like class. Chadwick currently had his eyes in that direction while speaking to the class. As soon as he looked away, Raten gave the signal to come in.
Bending ever so slightly, they moved very quietly into the class hiding behind the chairs. The few students who noticed them turned back. Placing their fingers over their lips in a shushing manner, the six boys begged them to not say anything. The last person in was Wallace. He slowly closed the door behind him.
They were behind six seats and in front of them was a staircase to walk to different positions in the class. Sticking his head out a little, Raten checked if Chadwick was looking. He immediately withdrew his head. He was almost caught.
"This certainly was not how I planned my day to start." Damien whispered.
"Then you should have gotten up earlier." Wallace whispered back.
"Shhhh!!! Are you trying to get us caught?" Rodney said from behind Raten. Peeking once more, Raten saw Chadwick still hadn't looked in another direction. They all could hear what he was saying clearly.
"It will help you in foresight as well." Chadwick said to the class. "Observing your environment carefully, and also letting you know..." He suddenly disappeared from the stage and appeared in front of the six students who tried to be sneaky. "...when students are trying to sneak into the class."
The six of them were beyond startled. They slowly lifted their heads and met the gaze of the dark haired, brown eyed Sir Chadwick.
