Chapter 47 - A nemesis in school

Raten still had his head lowered with his book over his face. Everyone still had their focus in his direction.

"Why do they look so familiar?" A boy asked himself staring immensely at the twins.

"Ahem." Chadwick then cleared his throat to gain everyone's attention once more. "Who caused that?" He asked looking in the direction of the six tardy ones. Raten didn't respond, still looking at his book. His roommates took a while, to get out of their enthrallment.

"I really shouldn't be surprised." Lecter said softly. He would somewhat expect what the twins had displayed anyway.

"Why do I have only one thought on whom it could be?" Jarett said in his mind with a smile.

"Answer me!" Chadwick said louder this time. The five boys all pointed at Raten who then slowly put his book down and raised his head. "Oh? The first twin caused a small one and this one had to make himself known." He said to himself. "I don't know if you were trying to show off or if it was a simple mistake, but you have to know how to control your powers."

"Everything that has to do with magic deals with concentration or it might have dire consequences. Try it again, but concentrate that power on your hand alone. Also, minimize it." He gave a general lecture while still staring at Raten.

Raten looked at his hand and back at Chadwick who urged everyone to keep trying. "Concentrate." He whispered. "Illuminate." He said even softer than last time, taking the words of his teacher into consideration. His mind was focused on his arm. As he said the word, his hands alone glowed and thankfully, not as brightly as it did before. He then relaxed with a smile on his face. Focusing his power was not too hard to do since his father had already touched that part of lecture with him and his brother.

Kiyan also tried again and got it right. Wallace, Damien and Lecter tried a couple of times before getting it right as well. Chadwick then decided to talk more on focus and less on spells. Truly, learning spells with no sense of concentration would be disasterous.

"The greatest wizards to ever live had to go through the basics. They, as you are doing right now, learnt every single thing they know about magic from scratch. While this may bore you, it is of utmost importance." Chadwick said noticing the bored look on the faces of some of them. Most of them though, were very excited, some bored and others finding it hard to get anything right. To the latter ones he only encouraged them even more, one can not get it all in one day.

"Focus, focus, nothing seems to be working. I haven't done a single thing right!" A girl gritted her teeth in frustration. She was the only one in the class who had the cloak of their clothing over her head, covering most of her face.

"Don't be so down," a girl beside her comforted. She had noticed the frustration and heard the mutters from the hooded female. "It's just like he said, you can't get it all today. Besides, it's our first day today. We all are still trying to grasp all he is saying."

The cloaked one turned to look at her and gave a small smile which the other returned. She still wondered how the other could see just fine with a blindfold on. The two were roommates and decided to seat beside each other.

After the morning hours, it was time for recess. For the first two weeks, the school had scheduled only two classes to be held. One being the general basic magic, and the other being the respective homeroom classes. Later on, a broader, weapon involved learning would commence.

They all were hungry at this point and moved into the resered dining area in the school. While everyone left the class, the twins still sat for a while, looking through the books they held. A lot of what was written was already taught to them to some extent by their father. Getting broader knowledge was most exciting for them.

"Three hundred plus years ago, everything written on these books were brought into existence by one man." Kiyan said with a grin.

"How cool it is for that man to be our father." Raten said.

They both were speaking softly to avoid others hearing their words. It would lead to a whole lot of explanations and possibly a revelation of their identities. They placed their books into the small bags the school had provided which surprisingly, yet not, with the wonders of magic, could contain anything of any size and still would have no change in weight, though there was a limit. The other four had already gone to eat and now the twins were on their way as well.

They suddenly got hit slightly on their shoulders. The person behind it just stood behind them. "It is a wonder how two living curses are allowed into the walls of this building," He said to them softly and moved to stand in front of them.

"What the? Was he referring to us?" Kiyan asked confused as to why someone would randomly refer to them as 'curses.' That word they had being called one too many times. Deciding to ignore him, they made to walk around him. He suddenly turned and looked at them blocking them from walking ahead.

"You can stand here all you like but I am really hungry, so move." Raten said annoyed. The lad then smiled widely showing his dentition.

"It is expected of you to hurry to where food is being served since you never really had enough to eat last time we saw," he responded infuriating them even further. There was only one situation where they knew they could hardly feed and that was back in their village.

"It is so nice to see you again, Teferi." He moved closer and whispered their names loud enough for them to hear. They were left in shock while he walked off.

"He, he knows who we are?" Raten said.

"Dark hair, evil eyes, mocking smile, is that Torrance?" Kiyan said remembering the features of the young one who kicked him away when he begged for help from his father two years ago.
