*****Ava's POV******
The rain poured heavily on me, I could hear clasps of thunder as I ran down the street with my handbag on my head. I'm a small-time newspaper journalist at the central city daily newspaper, I had to run back to my workplace when I got home and find out I had forgotten to take the flash drive containing my work files for the next day, I know my boss at the Daily Newspaper, Mister Drake Olson is a very young hot-tempered and never an easygoing man, he would be so upset if he found out that I had not done the proper arrangements for the next day. after weighing the consequences and the gain I decided to risk going back to the office that night.
My house is some miles away from my office, and to my poor self, it is a walkable distance.
I live in one of the rental apartments downtown.
I hissed in frustration as my sandals got stuck, the wet muddy floor didn't make things any easier. I stopped and kicked them off my feet, as if the rain was mad at me, it poured with all it might whipping me so hard on my face.
"I hate living" I mumble to myself.
I ran down the first street and took a left turn, finally, My apartment which was located in one of the simi-slum areas of Central City came into my sight.
I sighed loudly, even though I could not fathom if I was happy to be close to home at last or if it were just out of pure frustration.
I dashed towards the main entrance as my apartment is on the second floor of the rental building.
only one stair connect to each floor as it is one of the old houses in that area, and there was no elevator for tenants.
I ran headlong towards the building but I stopped in my tracks, though it was late at night and dark since it was raining, we usually have a power cut when it rains, so I was not too surprised.
if not for the sudden lightning which shone some strikes of light ahead of me I would have run into someone standing between me and the main entrance to the stairs.
I move closer with caution, the lightning keeps on sending strikes of light, each time it shows I will pick a little knowledge of what the person had on, I noticed the person just stood there in the rain, not doing anything he was just standing.
"Excuse Mister, can you move the f*ck out of the way! ?" I said not daring to move closer anymore.
He made a sudden movement with his hand, he brought out something from his back and pointed it at me.
The lightning struck somewhere in the distance, and this time the strikes of light were so bright. my tongue stuck in my throat as I noticed what he was pointing at me.
"a..a..a..gun!" I moved an inch backward, I wanted to run but my feet had turned jelly.
the man had no expression written on his face, now that my life was about to end, I could see his face. I wanted to ask why, why me?
it is true that I hate living but I never expected to die this way, knee deep in my thought I heard a loud deafening sound. I felt a strong force that sent me flying in the air I landed roughly on my back, and I feel pain all over my body.
"I've just been shot, my miserable life had ended," I cried so much, and the rain kept washing off my tears. I might have passed out on the cold floor I never know what happened after that, in my unconscious state I heard someone's calling in a distance,
"Miss! are you alright?" someone lit a bright touch on my face. I fluttered my eyes open, I was blinded by the sudden light in my eyes that I had to raise my hand to my face.
"Are you alright?" the huge voice came again.
"where am I?" I asked him.
he made an irritated face and I wondered if that's how everyone acts here in heaven.
"Am I dead?" I asked him again.
"Are you drunk?" he asked staring at me in awe.
"No, someone shot me," I said innocently.
the man use it big touch to light everywhere then he returned his gaze to me.
he had a sympathizing look on his face.
"Can you stand?" he asked.
"I guess so," I said to him.
He helped me get up on my feet.
"Ma'am, do you live close by?" he asked again.
why does he need to know if I live close by, I thought I died.
I look around me, I was still in the same spot, the rain had stopped and the power was back on, I stared at the place the man with the gun was but there was no one standing there.
"Have I been hallucinating?" I questioned myself.
I look back at the man who had just helped me up to my feet, his hand was still around my shoulder, I jolted away from him and stared at him in suspicion.
"Thank you," I said quickly to him and ran to pick up my bag which was lying some distance away. I was not ready to answer anyone's question about how I got there in the first place.
I ran up the stairs to my apartment, the cold had begun to affect me, so I slammed shut the door lock, throw my bag on my mini couch, and went straight to the bathroom.
staring at the mirror of my bathroom and I was shocked at the look of the person staring back at me in the mirror, I was double drenched, my hair was messy, and I look like a typical mad woman.
I sighed loudly, took off my clothes and prepare a hot bath, then I got into the bathtub. I steamed myself for hours until my eyes got heavy, I was tired and feeling sleepy, I didn't know how I did it but I moved from the bathtub to my bed, and there I fell asleep with only my pant and bralette on.
