Chapter 16 - A first in everything

Lucas reaches out to wipe the corner of his lips. He flinches from the pain.

The howling of two idiots filled the clinic. As he was much better than the two, he stands with Adrian beside him.

Mr. Evans, according to what Adrian had blurted out a moment ago when they were fighting.

Lucas does not know who was the first person who threw out the punch but here they are. In the clinic.

Good students will be wrapped with fear. Standing and the teacher in front of them ready to reprimand, they would hang their heads low, low enough to reach the floor. The embarrassment and shame creeping inside since students like them should not be involved in such predicament.

Lucas is not the same. Although he is intellectually capable, he is one of the troublemakers wrecking havoc behind the scenes, not getting caught except today.

His posture did not diminish. Lucas stands straight. From his peripheral view, Adrian is standing the same as him. Not wavering.

"Adrian. Lucas." Mr. Evans calls out. Arms cross on his chest.

Both of them did not reply.

"Explain yourselves."

Tingling sensation on his nose, Lucas scratches it. The howling quietens down and only silence remains making the atmosphere more awkward since no one wants to answer Mr. Evans.

Lucas does not know how long they were standing but Mr. Evans impatiently taps his foot on the tiled floor.

"Well? Adrian? How about you explain to me why a brawl began in front of the school bulletin board, my lovely student?"

Adrian clears his throat, smiling sheepishly towards Mr. Evans. He opens his lips, ready to spout nonsense and wiggle his way out.

"And don't try pulling some tricks here young man. I already know your ways."Mr. Evans inserted, knowing too well what Adrian might say.

Adrian coughs and then says, " I tripped, sir."

Lucas stays rooted. Dumbfounded with what he hears.

Having sentiments with Lucas, Mr. Evans did not hide his feelings. He facepalmed himself. Literally.

A first time for Lucas.

Mr. Evans exhales exasperatedly while Lucas puffs up his cheeks, holding in the laugh threatening to spill.

An eye opener for him. He could do that?

"Yes sir. I tripped, that's why a brawl began." Adrian seriously repeated his statement.

"Adrian. Haaa. No. Lucas? How about you? Any explanation you could give me?" Mr. Evans turns to Lucas.

Hopefully, student Lucas is not the same species as his student.

"Same as him sir."

Lucas proved him wrong. He is the same species as Adrian. A walking headache for him.

The faked smile on Mr. Evans vanishes. Throb on his head, he shifted his gaze. Only to find the two injured students- Owen and Kristoff- fidgeting on the clinic bed, dodging his stare hastily after he tilts his neck.

Almost leaving the two students, he pauses when Adrian speaks.

"Sir, they got wounded because they fell from the stairs."

This time, Lucas cannot hold on anymore. A snort disguise as a short laugh escapes.

The nonsense Adrian can craft right at the moment is a skill one must have. His face saying it in a serious manner had added points in cementing it as the truth. No ounce of hesitation as he tries to save the two from Mr. Evans' wrath.

Mr. Evans places a hand on the back of his neck, migraine has come because of Adrian.

"You. Don't talk anymore." Mr. Evans snaps.

Exchanging eye contact with Owen when he turns his head, Lucas slightly nods. Owen blinks his eyes rapidly. Receiving the signal, he knows what to do.

"Sir." He squeaks.

Owen flusteredly repels eye contact.

"I disagree with what Mr. Ventura had said. We did not fall down from the stairs." Owen explains.

Adrian frowns. Dismayed to this student disagreeing with the explanation. This boy covets to really be in detention after class. Adrian thinks.

He waits for his next sentence.

Mr. Evans, satisfied that finally one student will be telling the truth, encouragingly grins.

Kristoff clutches the sheet on the bed. The veins popping from the firmness as he holds. If given the opportunity, he would fuck up this Owen until he would not walk anymore.

The plan was brewing inside his mind. His short circuit malfunctioned in the next moment.

"We were hugging."

Hugging? Kristoff chokes on his own saliva. His choking noises are the only sound that can be heard.

What the heck?! What the heck is this Owen thinking? What the actual-

Adrian amusedly watches the situation unfolds. Someone other than him can spill better illogical words. He gives him an applause.

A look of appreciation emerges on Lucas. Owen is still thriving in this aspect.

Mr. Evans looks like a fish drowning. Mouth opening and closing after. He cannot formulate a coherent thought. Processing Owen's words, he lashes.

"Hugging you say? You both got bruises from hugging huh?" Mr. Evans fires out, the urge of pulling the two brats' ears overcoming his rational thinking.

"Yes sir." Owen nodded and further added in a convincing tone, "We were just overjoyed that we will become classmates. Because of an unforeseen incident, we got bruises."

Mr. Evans laughs out loud. Sarcastically.

Still, Owen stood his ground. He is unwilling to be in detention after class. Owen looks over.

Various expressions surround him. Even the school doctor looks entertained in this affair. He internally shudders when he thinks of the punishment other than detention.

They will not let them do that. Nope. They won't.

The itching feeling to smack someone becomes harder to control by the second. His hand twitches. Kristoff sees the floor more interesting.

"Then Kristoff."

Hot seat switches on him. He gulps, the blazing heat befallen on him.

Mr. Evans looks pissed. Kristoff could imagine the anger and helplessness Mr. Evans currently feels.

Someone in his shoes will be feeling the same. Kristoff knows.

But…

He cannot betray his teammates like that. He flutters his eyes and surrenders.

"Yes sir. I do agree with Owen's. We were really hugging."

Kristoff was the last person who lit the fuse.
