Immediately after seeing Wilder step into the area, his mind had gone into overdrive. If he had decided to stay in doors or just straight out meet with him and plead the instructor James would have been more at ease.
But Wilders movement was too erratic, he just went straight to take a seat among the juniors. At that moment, he had a gut feeling that something was wrong, so he went out to probe.
"He doesn't seem to be at the enhanced human stage, though." After regaining his composure after his long rant, the instructor, James, reasoned
Wilder didn't show any signs of being at the enhanced human stage; maybe he was just worrying too much.
In a short while, the year 2 students in the ordinary grade finished their assessments, leaving the crowd of new intakes in absolute awe.
Seeing the cadets take such huge leaps and make movements that were otherwise impossible for normal people to do made the new intakes feel astounded.
"I hope one day I will be able to do that," one person in particular was beaming. In admiration
If Wilder was there, he would of course be able to identify this person; she was the one seated next to the boy who threw a paper ball at Wilder at the gate.
She was a new intake into the academy, while the boy was probably a year one student about to get to year two, hence the reason for him trying to flex his muscles in front of her.
"Okay, good one," on the main chair the head instructor said to the ordinary grade cadets with a nod of approval. There was no one in the ordinary grade who failed in the excerise.
Actually, that couldn't be considered true; it's just that those who knew that they wouldn't be able to cut it would not let themselves be caught dead in this gathering; they would have to resume for the next batch of 2nd years or drop out entirely. It was completely embarrassing.
Another reason why Wilders appearance and nonparticipation were out of place
"Now it's time for the main event," the head instructor looked to his left.
There was a group of about 20 cadets that could be seen standing in a straight line facing the stage. Unlike the other year 2 cadets, these guys didn't have their cadet uniform on; no, they had some sort of black spandex-like clothes on, though from afar they didn't look the least bit uncomfortable.
Amongst these guys were people Wilder was all too familiar with; one was, of course, Anya; she was the workaholic of their group, so it was normal for her to be here; she had been training day in and day out to get to that point, and it finally paid off; she had gotten to the enhanced human stage.
The second was of course Noland. He had beef with Wilder, so Wilder could easily recognize him. Another thing that set Noland apart was his black eye. He looked visibly angry as he tried his best to make sure his black eye wasn't being captured by any cameras or junior cadets. Otherwise, he would not be able to live down the shame.
This was a big day, and this had to happen to him now? His anger was through the roof
"wait till I get you I'll take your head off" Noland was seething
After scanning through them, Frank could easily identify a few of them as they were the ones that stood out the most.
The first person to perform was none other than Anya.
She walked to the front of the stage and went past it; behind the stage were the steps to heaven.
Not long after she stopped in front of the steps to heaven,
"special grades class Anya Marcove" Anya turned to the crowd and saluted.
She was someone who went by the book through and through, so every tradition was done by the book. Staring at her, several cadets couldn't help but salute back at her.
Who didn't know her? She was the most frequent guest on the steps to heaven. She was there every day, and people had begun to respect her for just her sheer will; she could take loss after loss and keep on coming; they were all rooting for her.
*begin
A robotic voice resounded from the ladder-like structure (the steps to heaven).
And immediately after hearing it, Anya took a deep breath, took a leap upward, and landed on the first step.
The light turned green, and she took off.
"woahh!!" Inside the crowd, the new intake couldn't help but scream in surprise, unlike the other cadets from the ordinary grade. Anya cleared the obstacles on the first level like it was nothing but air; it showed the difference between the special grade and the ordinary grade was the difference between night and day.
In a few seconds, she was already on the second stage.
Maintaining her speed, she cleared the second, third, and fourth in a flash.
"A real prodigy" Far to the left of where the whole event was being held, a man in a greenish military uniform spoke.
" beside him was a lady in similar clothing with just a few differences
The lady was staring intently at Anya as she went through the obstacle course. Little by little, a smile appeared on her face.
If one could see the expression and facial features of this woman, they would see that the resemblance between her and Anya was quite high.
"This is just a useless show; we already know that she has made it to the enhanced human stage, so what is this whole thing for?" the lady said with some confidence in her tone.
"Hehe," the man beside her just laughed it off.
Meanwhile, Anya made her way from obstacle to obstacle, clearing each stage with ease, though the higher she got, the less easy it became.
but
After a while, Anya made it all the way to the 9th step, signifying that she was indeed in the enhanced human stage.
The whole crowd went wild, especially the first year and the new intakes; this feat they had never seen before except for the third year, but even they don't frequent the steps to heaven.
Later, more cadets of the special grade stepped forward to clear the steps with all their might, but despite it being very exciting, no one managed to get past the 9th step even till the end.
Even Noland could only do so much as they hadn't been in the enhanced human stage for long.
"Hehe, these are the new faces of the academy?" A man stood beside the head instructor and spoke.
He looked a bit advanced in terms of age, but his eyes were as sharp as ever and his mouth even sharper.
Clearly, he didn't think much of these guys.
"The previous set was better," the man commented while sticking a donut in his mouth.
"Do I have a surprise for you then?" the head instructor commented flatly as he rose up.
"now, welcome the class president of the second year," the head instructor announced.
Soon, from inside the crowd, a girl with purple hair walked out.
She had her crimson red uniform on unlike the others from the special grades class that had just performed, she was the president of the whole set and not just the special grade, so she couldn't wear any special clothes other than the academy uniform plus the uniform further amplified her beautiful curves and ample packaging in the right places, and placed on her hip was a long katana.
She was the epitome of beauty.
In the crowd
A young man could be seen with his mouth wide open while staring at the president in absolute shock.
This person was, Wilder.
"it's you?" Wilder exclaimed
He couldn't believe his eyes this girl was the one that would sneak into this room all the time in the middle of the night, and she was the class president of the second year?.
"I'm banging the class president?" Wilder thought in his mind
