Chapter 28 - Desolate Light

Just as the ball-shaped cluster of blood turned black, it immediately became bronze.

Wilder stared at it in shock; this did not seem normal at all, or at least he had never heard of anything like this.

"Bronze, is that some sort of higher tier or what?" Wilder mused in his mind as he saw the color.

He then slowly opened his eyes to look at the system interface in front of him and was met with a strange sight.

The system was running a completely different process than they had planned. No longer was it showing his pathways; it was now showing a sort of diagram with a title on its header.

[Desolate light core refining; 40%]

"Desolate light core refining?" Wilder was a bit confused; that name sounded familiar but he couldn't quite put his finger on it, that was until

"Wait a minute...." Wilder's mind nearly exploded upon realizing something about the technique or whatever it was he didn't know, but in the immortal world there was a place called the Desolate Space.

It was where immortals go to die, and even he had gone to that space with one of his clones, but after that little trip he not only lost his body but his immortal soul was also damaged. While there, he was there to invade a palace inside the space, but he failed horribly.

It was the only time the system cancelled a mission and didn't make him take it on again. Wilder could remember his regret because the reward the system offered was crazy, but he too knew that the place was too dangerous.

"So what does this desolate light core refining mean?" Wilder pondered

Firstly, the technique on earth, even though it seemed similar to life core refining in the immortal world, was completely different in the ending phase.

Secondly, he didn't manage to get anything from the desolate space, but the system seemed to have, so didn't that mean that the system had swindled him out of his reward by acting like the mission was a complete failure?

As Wilder was pondering how he was going to get his reward from the system no matter what, his mind got derailed as the core in his body became silver, then gold, and soon it seemed like it was flashing and changing colors like a disco ball.

At this point, the ball above his abdomen was a strange color that seemed to be a transparent gelatin ball with black and white light emitting from it.

Back on the ground

"I really wish I could see which grade it is," the head instructor lamented as he watched Wilder break through with attention, but with all the attention he was giving, he still couldn't see what was happening. He just didn't have the equipment.

He wasn't the only one with regret though; even Liam's mother looked gloomy.

It seemed like Wilder had used a modified version of her technique to break through; if he had used the method she gave him, then she would have all the right to extract him from the Warhawk Academy, but with just a small modification, it would become a drawn-out battle between her and the head instructor.

The question now was whether she would be able to trick the head instructor into believing that Wilder had used their technique without letting him verify.

"Hey old bastard, let me tell you a little secret…." Liam's mother knew that it was now or never, so she went for it with all her might.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

[Desolate light core refining is complete.]

The heaven's will system announced in Wilder's head.

This caused him to sigh in relief.

The whole thing was dangerous, using a technique he had only just heard of, but he kept his head down and trusted the system, and now that it was done, what remained was the final process.

He watched as the desolate light core lost its color and turned back into red blood; it then started floating into the arteries.

Rushing from them into several organs and finally back into the heart.

And when it got there, the blood cells started producing a sort of liquid that seemed to merge with the heart, slowly changing it.

"boom"

"boom"

"boom"

As the heart changed, the type of blood it refined and pumped out also changed, and even though it maintained its red color, it was now brimming with an enormous amount of energy.

"Pheww," Wilder sighed as the red finally came back to his pale face.

"he's done" Anya, who was watching the whole thing, couldn't help but smile uncontrollably.

meanwhile beside her on the opposite line, Lola couldn't help but giggle when she saw Anya.

Who would think that the otherwise tough and reliable Anya would show so much emotion at this point in time because of a boy?

"Sigh," Lola shook her head; she too was happy for Wilder; she had seen him degrade from the smiling innocent youth to an absolute despicable bully, and now he seemed to have changed, and after achieving the enhanced human stage, she hoped that he would get better.

"Remarkable," Liam's mother could be seen smiling.

She had succeeded in putting the head instructor and the supervisor into a state of panic and annoyance. Now, if she played her cards right, she would be able to poach Wilder.

Wilder had succeeded in completely amazing everyone in the crowd. The talent he displayed was not just some minor talent; it was supreme to the point of surprising all the officers from different army factions that came to see. Several people of influence were also very much interested in Wilder and had started asking questions about him. Of course, not everyone was happy about Wilder's success. For example, there was Noland and the other cadets that made fun of him when he fell from grace.

They knew the kind of person Wilder was; he would definitely come looking for revenge with time, so their unhappiness was justified.

"Hm!!" To the side, a lady with purple hair could also be seen as she stared Wilder down with dagger-like eyes.

It didn't look like she had ill intentions, but at the same time, it didn't look like she didn't
