Chereads / Tale of the Dreamer / Chapter 6 - 6

Chapter 6 - 6

I shut my eyes and focused on introspecting myself, searching for any other superpowers that might be hidden within me besides telekinesis and the shade sight that was starting to become a nuisance as I couldn't turn it off.

Comfortably sprawled on the sofa, I watched as other students finished finding their types and joined me. The room had more than one sofa, so there was plenty of space for everyone.

Feeling a pang of hunger, I reached for a chocolate bar from the snack basket and savored its flavor enjoying the comfort it provided.

Although I contemplated striking up a conversation with the other students, I ultimately decided ,nah.

Everyone had finished discovering their metapower types and the researcher stood before us with a small smile on his face.

"Alright, everyone has found out their types. Before you head back home, you'll need to undergo a quick health checkup. Even if you feel alright, it's important to go through the checkup to prevent any future complications," he advised.

He then turned to me and gestured towards a different door. "As for you, Nirmay, come with me," he said.

I followed him in silence as we entered another seemingly endless hallway.

"Do you know what the liquid you ingested was?" the researcher asked.

"I believe it was water from the river Nagvinashak," I ventured a guess.

"You're correct, but the water that flows in that river is clearly not water, nor liquid. You've already experienced one of its effects, the awakening of your metapowers. However, it also has many other effects, such as developing your metapowers. As you've awakened such strong telekinetic abilities during your awakening, you've been able to use your powers with ease, and the Metamorphene didn't have as severe of an effect on you compared to the others. We suspect that you may have the perfect body, or in your case, soul," he explained.

"What do I need to do now?" I asked, curious if I could start developing my powers before finding their limits.

"You'll be asked to ingest a few more drops of Metamorphene, but only if you agree to it. Though I highly advise you to go through with it if you can. It could prove to be extremely advantageous to your future. But before that, let's get you checked up," he said, leading me to a door.

Inside the room, several health workers were stationed, conducting full body check-ups on the students. However none of my friend was among them.

We approached a female health worker dressed in a lab coat, who looked up from her clipboard when the researcher approached her.

"Give him a full body check-up," the researcher said.

"Full body check-up?" the health worker confirmed, looking at me.

The researcher nodded and stood silently as the health worker took out a small rectangular device with a metallic sheen from a compartment in the wall. The tile on the wall receded to show a small space inside.

I was a little surprised seeing this for the first time and wondered if all the tiles were storage spaces as well.

The health worker placed the device on my forehead, and a thin wire extended out of it. I couldn't help feeling nervous as it locked onto my head tightly, but I tried to remain still as the health worker carried out the scan.

After a few seconds, the device detached from my head, and the health worker made some notes on her clipboard.

"Let's go," the researcher said, gesturing for me to follow him.

We walked out of a door, not the one we had entered from, and entered another seemingly endless hallway. I couldn't help but wonder how people managed to navigate through this maze-like facility.

We came across another door and the door opened automatically like the doors before.

We went inside.

Inside was a female researcher reading something on a holographic screen.

The researcher finished typing on the holographic screen and turned to face us. "Ah, Nirmay. I've been expecting you," she said with a friendly smile.

" Hello. What do you mean you have been expecting me?" I asked.

" I was the one instructing you in the 1st white room. Anyway, My name is Dr.Mei Ling." She replied.

"I see. Nice to meet you, Dr. Mei Ling," I greeted her politely.

"Likewise. Now, let's get to business. As Dr.Wilson explained earlier, we would like to offer you the opportunity to ingest a few more drops of Metamorphene. The purpose of this is to find out if you really have perfect soul" Dr. Mei Ling explained.

"I understand. But what are the risks?" I asked, concerned about any potential side effects.

"The risks are relatively low, considering your body's reaction to the first dose of Metamorphene. However, there is still a chance of some minor side effects, such as temporary loss of motor skills or minor headaches. But I assure you, we will monitor you closely and provide any necessary treatment if needed," she reassured me.

" Will further doses affect my body instead of soul?" I asked. She appeared surprised by my question and replied, " No such thing has been documented yet.Metamorphene only affect sa single aspect of the Human being, either soul or body."

" Ok. I agree." I agreed considering my soul is undying.

She reached into a desk drawer and retrieved a vial of Metamorhene, carefully examining the label before removing the cap.

" Here." Dr. Mei ling said offering me the vial.

" Are we gonna do it here?" I asked.

"Yes."

I drank the vial and unlike the unpleasant feeling I got the first time, I didn't feel any different. Though I was able to taste it clearly this time, it was a little bitter and very sweet. It tasted good.

They, the pair of researchers in lab coat were staring at me, which made me a little uncomfortable.

" Anything different from your first time?" Dr. Wilson asked.

" Yes, unlike the first time. I do not feel any different." I replied to his query and her curiosity.

"Your telekinetic abilities are incredibly potent, as evidenced by your resistance to the effects of 10ml of Metamorphene," remarked Dr. Mei Ling, her tone tinged with admiration.

She then escorted us to a spacious room outfitted with an array of heavy instruments, most likely for testing meta powers.

"Let's begin by testing your limit with bakelite," Dr. Mei Ling instructed, pointing towards a row of 2x2x2 meter blocks constructed of various materials.

I effortlessly manipulated the bakelite, lifting and compressing it until it was reduced to a compact 1x1x1 meter heap. While I felt I could compress it even further, I refrained from doing so as it would require greater effort.

The pair of researchers gazed at me with astonishment, evidently surprised by my impressive display of telekinetic prowess.

"I've never seen such raw power in a newly awakened Numinator before. Your abilities are on par with that of a level 2 psychic. Further testing is required to assess the full extent of your capabilities, but for now, you may return home," Dr. Mei Ling announced with a smile, to which Dr. Wilson nodded in agreement.

"Allow me to escort you back to your group," Dr. Wilson offered, to which I nodded in gratitude before following him.
