Chereads / Tale of the Dreamer / Chapter 10 - 9

Chapter 10 - 9

The next year marked my fourteenth year in this world, and I had already discussed the process of attending university with my homeroom teacher. As expected, her surprise was evident when she learned of my perfect soul, but she graciously helped me through the whole procedure, allowing me to take the necessary exam and receive permission from the school. Being a psychic came with many benefits.

Having shared the news with my friends, I noticed they appeared saddened by it. Nonetheless, I was determined to attend the university recommended by the 2 odd pair of researchers, Academia Primordia. Today was the day of my journey to the capital, where I would take the entrance exams and participate in the written examination. I did not need to but I though it would be good for my record.

My parents and friends accompanied me to the train station, and after exchanging pleasantries, I bid them farewell and boarded the train. The journey would take an hour, surprising considering the speed of vehicles in this world.. I had a separate room for myself on the train, where I sat feeling the inevitable loneliness of living by myself.

I arrived at my destination promptly and hailed a taxi outside the metro station, which took me to the hotel where I would be staying during this period. Before the written examination, I freshened up and ate something, preparing for the exam taking place in an hour.

The designated building for the university's written examination was bustling with activity, and due to my young age, there were some delays. Eventually, the exam began, and despite knowing every answer, the papers were designed to be challenging. I finished the exam in forty minutes. Surprisingly, written exams used papers in this world, adding an old-fashioned touch to the experience.

After the duration of the written exam ended, we were informed that the results would be announced in an hour. Since there were 10,000 examinees, I decided to wait on the terrace of the exam center. While waiting, I looked at the gigantic barrier around the city that was almost unnoticeable. It was only two months ago, after promoting to level 3, that I had noticed the barrier, and once again, I marveled at the grandiosity of the city.

As expected, the results were announced on time, and I aced the exam with full marks, while the second-highest score was 90, ten marks lower than mine. Only 100 students passed the written exam, and the main exam was yet to begin. The exam which tested the level of psychic powers of examinees.

However, the main exam would not be difficult for me, considering the highest level among the examinees was a level 2 herculean. Two buses were waiting outside the exam center, and I could already guess the venue of the main exam; it was the forest outside the capital sector.

As we arrived at the outskirts of the capital sector, we alighted from the buses at a visible distance from the forest. The examiners announced to the orderly group of students standing outside the buses, "As some of you may know, the university you want to attend is inside this forest. You have to find the University to enter it. The main exam will be easier this year. You will be given the direction of the university inside the forest. For those who don't know, this sector of the forest hasn't been purified, so be careful." After saying that, the announcer left along with the other examinees.

The calm group of students remained calm, except for some. I inwardly smiled at the chance to use my powers freely without hiding, thinking that it would be fun. Just as someone was about to ask me to form a group, I flew towards the forest at high speed, resembling a phoenix in posture.

Flying never ceases to be enjoyable, no matter how many times I do it. The cold, high-speed air, similar to that of riding a bike, fills me with a spirit of adventure and reminds me of my connection to the world. I checked my watch for the direction of my destination. I found myself deep in the forest, surrounded by trees with no other landmarks in sight. The university lay to the northeast and I flew towards it.

Something familiar caught my attention in the air around me. I scanned the air carefully and concluded that the substance mixed in with the humidity was metamorphene, which surprised me. It seemed that I wouldn't have to worry about getting more metamorphene.

As I looked down towards the earth, all I could see were densely packed green trees of the tropical forest. There was little wildlife in sight, except for some species of rodents, cats, and insects. Undeterred, I increased my speed and created a telekinetic barrier to protect my head as I continued on my way.

As I soared through the sky like a human missile, I suddenly found myself face to face with a massive bird. It was as big as a human, with a long beak, sharp eyes sporting vertical pupils, and deadly claws attached to the front of its wings, reminiscent of a bat. Its intimidating appearance did nothing to deter my flight, and before I knew it, we collided with a force that left a sizable dent in its head and destroyed its beak. The bird was flung backward, plummeting to the ground, most likely dead on impact.

Despite the collision, I wasted no time and continued on my way, sensing that the University was nearby. My metasense, with a range of 1km, allowed me to detect its location with ease. As I landed in front of the University's entrance, I was met by two young and muscular guards, most likely senior students of the university. They looked surprised at my sudden appearance.

With a ceremonious greeting, I asked them, "Greetings seniors, is this the Academia Primordia?"

One of the guards replied with a simple "Yes," while the other asked, "Are you one of the examiners this year?"

"Yes," I replied, presenting them with a sleek rectangular card made of an unknown material that served as my entrance card.

The guards were taken aback by my revelation. It was no surprise since I had completed the main exam in under ten minutes and appeared to be exceptionally young. However, they quickly recovered and offered to give me a tour of the university.

"I am Cassius Blackwood, a fourth-year student," introduced the first guard, Cassius. "And this is Alexander Steele. He's the quiet type."

I exchanged greetings with Alexander before following Cassius into the university. The entrance was grand and imposing, with a weight that seemed too heavy for even ten level 2 psychics and Herculean combined to open.

However, Cassius opened the gate with ease, and we stepped into the university grounds. The entrance closed behind us, and I took in the sight of the various buildings and structures inside. I could only see the entrance outside as the university grounds were covered by a barrier. There were six main buildings inside, and we walked along an alleyway, heading deeper into the university grounds.

The university grounds were adorned with a collection of 6 buildings, each one unique in its design, but all unified by a cohesive aesthetic. The architecture of the buildings was a blend of modern and traditional styles, with sharp lines and contemporary features complemented by ornate carvings and colorful tiles. The result was a breathtaking fusion of old and new, a fitting reflection of the institution's commitment to embracing the future while honoring its rich history.

The first building, where lectures and curriculum-related work took place, was a sleek, modern structure with tall windows that provided ample natural light. The building's exterior was clad in smooth, polished concrete, which gave it a futuristic feel, while the interior was warm and inviting, with wooden accents and muted colors that fostered a calm, focused environment.

The dorm, which comprised the second building, was a sprawling structure that seamlessly blended into the natural landscape. The building was designed to feel welcoming and comfortable, with large windows that let in plenty of natural light, and soft, natural colors that imbued the space with a sense of warmth and tranquility. The dorm wasn't seperated by gender.

The third building, reserved for the professors and renowned researchers, was a stately structure with an air of sophistication and gravitas. The building was designed to impress, with towering columns and intricate carvings that conveyed a sense of authority and power.

The fourth building, the largest on the campus, was the laboratory. This building was designed to be functional, with a minimalist aesthetic that emphasized efficiency and practicality. The interior was bright and spacious, with high ceilings and plenty of open space to accommodate the complex machinery and equipment needed for metascientific research.

The fifth building was the library, a grand structure that exuded an air of quiet dignity and scholarly wisdom. The building was adorned with ornate carvings and intricate detailing, and its vast collection of books and manuscripts were kept safe and secure behind heavy oak doors.

Finally, the sixth building was the storage facility with it's contents unknown, which according to Cassius would surprise me.

As I entered the Academic center, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the grandeur of the traditional architecture that surrounded me. The building stood tall and imposing, a testament to the rich history of the university.

Once inside the larger room, which was designated for the orientation of new students, Cassius left me to my own devices. As I looked around, I noticed that the room was empty except for me.

To my relief, I heard footsteps approaching. However, it wasn't a student but a professor, a woman, who entered the room. Her presence exuded confidence and intelligence, and I knew that I was in the presence of someone remarkable.

As I sat on my seat, I gazed at the professor who had just entered the room. Our eyes met and I could sense a momentary look of surprise on her face.
