Chapter 9 - A small chat

Kian found himself at a loss when Luna posed her question.

"I don't know what is happening or why any of this has occurred,"

he admitted with a soft expression on his face.

"But I do believe that, like always, we will get through it."

Kian thought that focusing on the positive was the best approach and did not wish to dwell on the negatives for too long.

After hearing this Luna looked down at the bed for a moment, grimacing.

"Yeah… at least we have a place to stay,"

She said while turning the frown into a smile and looking back up towards him. Kian knew she was still in the slumps, and who wouldn't be?

But even so, Kian disliked seeing her sad.

So after looking at her for a few more moments, he decided he'd try to lighten the mood.

"So do you like my different colored eyes? I think they suit my face pretty well, it gives me a more mysterious and calm look"

He remarked.

Luna darted her eyes over to Kian and studied his heterochromia.

"Yeah I like the change, it looks better, and if you look at it, you have one eye that's the same color as mine, just a little redder."

Kian lightly chuckled before responding

"Yeah that is true, I think you'd look good with white hair too."

Luna looked down at her hair before gently caressing it.

"Yeah well I don't think I'm going to dye it anytime soon"

They both couldn't help but timidly laugh.

They relished this moment as much as they needed to. They were uncertain when or what would happen next, so they had to savor every moment as much as possible.

Their lives had already been taken away from them once; who knew if it could happen again?

"So what is exactly the plan? I get the backstory you made, but if they press you about it you won't be able to cover it up."

Kian shrugged

"They seemed to love the story but the plan is to hopefully stay here and get more information about this world before coming up with anything else. Who knows what may occur in due course."

After this Kian and Luna divulged in small chatter, since Luna had just woken up after four days of sleep Kian didn't want to push her to do anything.

Eventually, they heard everyone else in the house start to become active so Kian decided he'd tell them Luna had woken up.

Stepping out of the room he ran into Landon, who seemed to be doing the same.

"Landon, Luna has awakened, she appears to be in good health."

Kian said energetically with a bright smile on his face.

After hearing this Landon smiled back.

"Ah that's great, we were starting to get worried but it appears she's fine, you can tell her to come downstairs and introduce herself if she's feeling up to it, my mother will be making breakfast soon if she's hungry."

"Alright sounds good!"

***

Currently, a group of five individuals was seated around a spacious table, indulging in a well-prepared breakfast.

This was Luna, Kian, and Landon's family.

Upon hearing about Luna's awakening, Natalie skillfully cooked a delicious meal for all of them to enjoy.

Luna had introduced herself to them but Kian, who had previously provided basic information about her to everyone, allowed her to not feel so new.

During the meal, Lillian, who had been quite subdued when Kian first met her, seemed to come out of her shell.

Kian initially thought that her reticence might have been due to shyness or unfamiliarity with him.

However, this was not the case, as Lillian was now all over Luna, asking numerous questions and seeking her company.

Kian thought that Lillian's eagerness to connect with Luna could be attributed to her lack of female companionship.

Although Lillian attended a nearby school on certain days, Kian didn't know what type of situation it was. Having another female in the household was likely an exciting new aspect for her.

After the meal, Lillian promptly whisked Luna away to engage in various activities. Meanwhile, Kian assisted in clearing up the dishes before getting prepared with Landon to work on the fields.

This time Martin would be present as well when he didn't have to make any trips to the city or other places he'd regularly work on the farm.

Thus they all suited up and headed out.

A few hours later, Kian was in the process of gathering bundles of haystacks into a large pile on the farm. Landon's family owned a few horses along with various other animals.

Since they still used a horse and carriages to travel far distances this led Kian to believe that this world wasn't as technologically advanced as his last.

However, he could not be certain whether this was due to the remoteness of the farm or a lack of industrial advancement in this world due to the existence of magic possibly playing a role in everyday life, Halting any advancements

This was all just a theory of course, to confirm it he would have to travel to a well-populated city such as Celestia which was supposed to be one of the most advanced settlements in the kingdom.

Traveling to Celestia was one of Kian's most significant goals, as he wished to confirm his supposition and witness magic firsthand. Additionally,

But most importantly, he required more information about this world. Of course, he wasn't jumping to leave anywhere as he appeared to have a stable place to stay but it was still nice to look around.

After he had eventually stacked a decent amount of hay up he traveled back to Landon, who was gathering up different vegetables and fruits.

The foods and animals that Kian had seen so far were all the same, he hadn't seen anything otherworldly as of yet.

Landon, who spotted Kian walking up to him, wiped the sweat off of his forehead before waving him down.

"Yo Kian, mind helping me with these crops?"

Kian nodded in agreement and joined in the work. After a few moments of silence, he decided to initiate a conversation.

"Landon, could you tell me more about Celestia city?"

he asked, hoping to obtain more information.

"Celestia? Yeah sure."

Landon stopped working for a moment to ponder over his next words.

"Well, it's one of the most densely populated cities in the world, home to the prestigious king's castle along with numerous elite noble homes. It also has some of the best schools."

It sounded like a pretty important city, home of the king's castle was interesting.

Kian couldn't help but wonder about this kingdom's king.

He refrained from asking Landon for more details on that matter as it would be unusual not to know the ruler of the land where one had resided their entire life.

"I see, it sounds pleasant. I would like to visit someday,"

Kian remarked while continuing his work.

"By the way, you mentioned traveling to a big city with Luna when you ran away. Was it Celestia?"

Landon asked.

Kian paused momentarily before responding,

"I assume it was. We went in the direction of the nearest big city without much thought, you see, our decision to leave our village was fueled by my and Luna's emotions without much thinking backing it up."

Kian had established a solid foundation for his fabricated backstory.

"If you're interested in visiting the city, my father goes there to sell our farm products every two weeks. I'm sure you and Luna could accompany him,"

Landon offered.

'Perfect'

This was the opportunity Kian needed.

He smiled lightly while responding.

"Really? That'd be excellent"

Kian was pleased with the thought of traveling to this "magical city"

"I'll talk to my father about it when we get back home"

Landon responded while resting for a few more moments before getting back to work.

Kian had big plans for the future.

He thought maybe he'd be able to use this magical power called the mystic brand.

Or maybe he'd have to.

There had to be a reason he and Luna got here and he widely believed that this magic was one of the reasons.

He was considering trying to get into this "Silverwind academy" that Landon had wanted to attend to unlock his Mystic Brand.

But all that was a distant future away.
