Chereads / Resurrected By Magic: A Love Beyond Death / Chapter 15 - Cold and condescending

Chapter 15 - Cold and condescending

After concluding his study session Kian gathered up the books that he read before getting up from his seat.

He walked back to where he had gotten the books and set them back in their rightful spot.

He was grateful for their straightforward explanations and he assumed that significant research and effort had gone into their creation.

About thirty minutes had passed since Luna and Landon had gone to drop the clothes off.

Considering it wasn't too far away Kian suspected they would be here very soon.

So as he finished returning the books he simply stood around for a moment, thankful for the library's calm silence.

Since the library was quiet, Kian took this opportunity to reflect on his recent experience with his eye.

Although Kian had previously experienced migraines and eye strains in his past world, this recent episode was markedly different.

And with everything going on Kian had to be wary of everything, especially when something he's never experienced before just happened.

The sensation he felt was like his eye is set on fire, yet the pain was not nearly as severe.

It only hurt for a moment, and it was a pain Kian had never felt before.

However, the ache wasn't the main symptom.

It felt like his eye was heating up. On top of that, he felt a slight tingly feeling in his pupil.

It was more discomforting than hurting.

He couldn't explain it well but the sensation felt like it came from inside of him rather than a foreign cause.

Another uncanny thing about this was the fact it only happened in one eye; his right.

This was Kian's new blackish-gray eye that he had woken up with.

Kian knew this could have a deeper meaning to it.

It couldn't be a coincidence that his eyes suddenly changed color and now he was experiencing unnatural situations with them.

These two had to be linked in some way.

Kian had to add this to the other numerous questions he had no answer to.

All these inquiries caused Kian to become a slightly off-edge.

These countless unanswered questions were weighing heavily on Kian's mind, making him slightly anxious.

To calm himself, he decided to get some fresh air outside, away from the library's unique fragrance which was made by the various books.

He started to walk towards the exit, and while doing so he looked around the library one last time before opening the door and stepping out.

Upon exiting he was met with a gentle breeze and the light blue sky accompanied by the sun which laid graciously over top.

Looking around he saw many different people walking and going on with their day.

It appeared to be around noon, he didn't know the exact time but they'd been here for a few hours so it was safe to assume.

They planned on heading back home after spending most of the day here.

Standing on the sidewalk Kian waited for Luna and Landon.

After lingering for a few moments without any signs of them appearing Kian started to slowly walk down the street.

He preferred to not stand in one place for too long; it could bring attention to himself plus he wanted to take a light stroll to ease his mind anyways.

Of course, he didn't plan on going far, he didn't want to exceed the point where he couldn't see the library.

He wouldn't want to get lost in a giant city like Celestia.

The main reason for this walk was deep down his thoughts were slowly eating at him; remembering all the knowledge he absorbed in the library, on top of the situation with his eye put him in a slight stage of dismay.

So while pacing down the sidewalk he rested his hand on his chin, seeming to be in thought.

But while caught up in his thoughts he was negligible to his surroundings.

So after taking another step he graced someone by the shoulder.

However, Kian was the only one to be pushed back by this.

He realized he should've been paying attention so he intended to apologize.

"Ah I'm sor-"

"Watch your step."

Kian was cut off by the man he had bumped into.

His tone was cold and condescending

Turning to face this person Kian was met with a rather tall man who seemed to be very well-built.

He had a robe over top of him, but besides that, he wasn't in any special clothing.

Kian could see his hair was a simple brown color, the hairstyle itself was covered by the hood of the robe, putting it outside his periphery.

Looking at part of his face past the hood he was rather good-looking, he had calm brown eyes to match his hair color.

When they locked eyes the man squinted, seemingly showing a small amount of interest before evidently turning and walking away.

While the man turned and walked away Kian was still frozen in place.

When they made eye contact, at first the man seemed to have a look of pity with a small splash of irritation in his eyes, like he was looking down on Kian as if he was some god.

His gaze was powerful, it almost looked like he was staring into Kian's soul.

After he squinted ever so slightly, a wave of fear rushed Kian instantly.

The man had such a disturbing aura it almost pained Kian to look at him.

Forcing himself out of his daze he rested his hand on his head and turned away.

He was covered in a cold sweat over this small occurrence.

He just couldn't get the look out of his mind, it truly scared him.

'That man…'

Picking up his thoughts Kian started to walk slowly down the sidewalk again, trying to brush off the dreadfulness he was feeling.

After taking a few steps he was stopped in his tracks.

What caused this was a feeling he was already familiar with.

His right eye started to reenact what it did in the library.

Though this time it was stronger.

It felt as if his retina was being set ablaze, it was more painful than the previous time but still not bad enough to where one would raval in pain.

Placing his hand over his eye Kian took in deeper breaths, hoping this would kill the sensation.

Regardless of his efforts the feeling lasted, all Kian could do was stand there with his hand hovering over his right eye.

The unknown feeling was too potent.

After what felt like forever of this torment Kian was pulled back to reality.

The cause of it was someone calling his name from a distance.

"Kian, we're back"

Hearing his name be called causes the feeling to slowly dwindle until it was nonexistent.

Kian had no clue why it had done this but he sure was alleviated.

Sighing with relief he turned to where the sound was coming from.

Walking towards him were Landon and Luna.

"Hey Kian, you weren't at the library; we'd thought we lost you for a moment but you were just down the street."

Landon said while they walked closer.

Kian wiped the discomfort off of his face before answering in a steady voice.

"Yeah I just needed some fresh air… that's all"

Kian decided it would be best to keep this to himself.

He didn't want to tell Landon in case this meant some sacred thing he didn't know, and because this would bring forth more questions that Kian wanted to keep hidden for now.

Kian didn't want to tell Luna because she was going through so much, he didn't want to make her worry more than she already was.

So as they came closer to each other Kian acted as if nothing had happened.

"So did you guys finish dropping off the bags at the carriage?"

He asked to change the topic on why he was away from the library.

"Yeah, my father was done selling the farm materials so there was plenty of space."

Landon answered while nodding.

Kian looked at Landon for a moment then at Luna, who was looking back with slight worry in her eyes.

Kian suspected she knew something was off with him.

Luna, who Kian had spent the most amount of time with, could tell when something was amiss with him.

After spending her whole life with him she began to notice the small emotions and details. No one besides himself knew him better than her.

And vice versa.

Looking at her and standing there for a few moments in silence Kian posed another question.

"So where to now?"

Honestly, he wanted to get away from this area as soon as possible.

If that mysterious person were to come back and cause Kian's eye to act up it could cause problems.

It was best to move on before anything happened.
