Chapter 17 - Silverwind Academy

Landon's face was rather grim and dark when he went into detail about Silverwind Academy.

Perhaps it was because he would soon face this challenge, or maybe he felt bad for the previous people who have failed.

While observing this Kian sat his fork down and lightly brushed his hair out of his view before posing another question.

"So what exactly does one do at this school? And do you have to have a mystic brand before entering?"

If they were going to embark on this near-impossible mission, Kian wanted all the information he could get.

Taking his question in, Landon thought for a moment before answering.

"Well for starters; it's a school so you are required to do the work they present to you, such as take notes and pass every test. However, unlike a regular school, they focus specifically on magic matters, such as the history behind it, all the theories involving it, and many other grueling subjects."

He stopped for a short moment and took a few bites of his food, allowing them to take some time to understand the situation.

And that's exactly what they did.

Kian knew Landon had devoted plenty of time to his studies yet he talked about the work as if it would be outlandishly difficult for him.

This was extremely alarming as Landon dedicated his life to his studies.

Yet with all that, Kian wasn't too worried about this part; he knew it would be extremely difficult at the very minimum, but at least it didn't require him to do things that were exclusive to this world.

"The other side of the course, and the reason more than seventy-five percent of students are forced to drop out, was spent working on becoming a stronger mystic. They do this in many ways; vigorous training, real combat experience, tons of elite teachers, and various trips and adventures."

It truly was a magical school.

"Does one have to acquire their mystic brand before attempting to join the school or do they help you unlock it?"

Kian said while tilting his head slightly.

That would be pretty bad news if it were correct.

Kian didn't even know if Luna and he could possess a mystic brand; being from another world and all.

And if they couldn't it would make their unimaginable quest even more blasphemous.

"Well technically speaking, yes. You see; to get accepted into Silverwind you have to pass both parts of the entrance exam, one part of the exam is a written test, which is extremely difficult and eliminates tons of entries. Though the other side is the reason the school has such a diminutive acceptance rate, and this is the simple yet incomprehensible task of unlocking one's mystic brand."

Kian displayed his visible confusion at this.

"What do you mean? How could one just unlock their brand, I thought you couldn't obtain it whenever you pleased?"

To unlock one's brand it was stated to be mostly luck. This was done through severe trauma, training harshly, or just randomly waking up with the power, the underlying characteristic is it had no clear requirements for one to unlock it.

One could go through the most horrific experience while training their body till it collapses, only to still be dry out of luck.

So how could one just simply unlock it?

"Well it is the main reason why Silverwind Academy outshines every other school in the world, It's because of how powerful the person in charge of it is. because of the principle, there is one way to allow a person the chance of unlocking their mystic brand with their own hands."

"What? How is that even remotely possible? It doesn't make any sense no matter how I think about it."

Kian was perplexed.

The book he had read didn't state anything about this, of course, he didn't read the entire thing but he made sure to take in the important details, did he miss something as vital as this?

"Calm down and I'll explain. Centuries ago the world was in utter dismay, constant wars raged and there was no kingdom, instead, there was a myriad of clans that all sought to take over the world. Amid this dark age, two clans rose above the rest and created the very kingdom we live in today. These two clans are called Azarule and Silverwind, and as you know one possesses control over the Mythoria kingdom while the other is regarded as the strongest clan in history."

He said in a calmer voice, clearly not trying to cause a small scene like earlier.

While he went on his short rant, though none of it was new to Kian, Luna was graciously accepting the new knowledge.

"Now the reason why Silverwind Academy has the power to make new Mystics is because of the man, the myth, the legend himself, magnius Silverwind."

This was a name Kian was familiar with.

Labeled the strongest mystic to ever live.

With his power, he brought the world back to order.

He was talked about as if he was a god in flesh, a true warrior.

"He could do this because of his ability, as you see, there are five known tiers of a mystic brand, Novice engraver, Apprentice aetheric, Adept arcanist, Master magus, and finally Archon of Arcana. Now as of right now, there is said to be no Archon of Arcana alive, even throughout history there's only been a very small amount of people to have this power: small enough to count on one hand. Magnius Silverwind was one of those select few to reach this stage."

Kian remembered the book he had read saying something similar to this.

Though he still didn't know why or how they could make mystics.

While Assessing the info he looked over at Luna, who seemed to be struggling to wrap her head around what Landon was talking about.

It only made sense though, Kian understood most of it because of what he had read at the library; Luna didn't get that privilege.

She'd have to wait till they were in a secluded area so Kian could fill her in on everything.

"The power of the fifth stage of the mystic brand is so scarily strong, it's still affecting the modern day even when the person that had it died centuries ago. When one reaches this stage they are said to unlock an extremely powerful ability, and once that ability is created it is passed down through generations."

"Passed down? Does that mean mystic brands could be hereditary?"

"Well yes, but it's slightly different. If someone has the fifth tier and they die with it, the power doesn't get erased. If the person has any offspring it will attach itself to one of them. If they have no offspring then it is randomly awoken in a person around the world, and it acts as their power."

Landon responded

So technically, one could have two mystic brands though one of them would grant the user only that specific ability.

It was starting to make more and more sense.

"Silverwind Academy is the greatest because of the ability Magnius unlocked when he reached the fifth tier; which was the ability to allow one to have a chance of unlocking their brand through their means. When the kingdom was first created, Magnius founded Silverwind Academy and used his power to produce powerful mystics so the world would be at peace. He eventually had children and died of old age, that's when it was discovered that the brand could be passed down. His oldest child was given the ability that his father had and carried on his legacy, the head of the Silverwind clan is the one in charge of the school because they carry Magnius's power, and it's been like that ever since he died."

It seems this world's power was as crazily confusing as ever.

Though through the confusion, it was a slight revelation for Kian; it answered a lot of his questions and it was pretty good news, they could now work on getting their brand through means other than luck.

"I see. That explains why Silverwind Academy holds such influence and power over the Kingdom."

It was said that the leader of the Silverwind clan held almost equal power to the king himself, Kian thought that it was just because of their exponential strength, but it seemed to go much deeper than that.

"But wait… how do they know that the brand travels to a random host once the bloodline is ended?"

Since the leader of Silverwind always had children the ability was passed down without any problems.

But how could they know it traveled randomly once the bloodline stopped?

Landon paused for a moment, forming his response in his mind.

"Well that's because there were more Archon of Arcana's than Magnius; there are four recorded throughout history, though there could be more that no one knew about. Three of these four brands are still with us today, one with Silverwind Academy's principal, one is in a neighboring kingdom's strongest warrior, and one of the strongest men alive today; Aldwin Drarder, more commonly known as "The lord of destruction", one was just recently discovered in a child from an outskirts village, and the last is currently unknown but we know for sure it exists due to previous users."

This info dump was a lot for Kian to take in.

Sitting around the table Kian and Luna took in the information, and oh was it a lot of knowledge.

There was a lot more to mystic brands than they had previously thought.

He didn't know whether this all was good or bad, but he felt like he'd find out eventually.

Though it seemed Landon wasn't done with his lecture.
