Chapter 7 - A forged past

After their discussion on magic, goals, and other matters, Kian and Landon continued their work for several more hours.

On their way back to the house Kian spotted a carriage that wasn't there when they left.

"Ah, my father and sister must be home."

Kian wondered what type of man Landon's father was, he figured since he saved him and Luna he would be a nice guy but you could never be too sure.

Finally, after reaching the house Landon and Kian entered.

They were met with a sweet aroma, Natalie must have started cooking dinner while they were absent.

He followed Landon who walked to the kitchen, and when he arrived he was met with Landon's mother, who was cooking, and two other people he hadn't seen before.

One was a taller, semi-bulky man who looked stern and strong.

While the other was a small girl who appeared to be around 10 if Kian had to guess.

When they caught the attention of him and Landon, the man looked at Kian.

"So you're the one who fell asleep in my fields haha"

The Man said in a humorous voice with a bright smile on his face.

"Martin, don't be rude, he could've been seriously hurt!"

Natalie spoke up while cooking in a stern voice.

Through this small interaction, Kian had already figured out what type of relationship this was.

The man who appeared big and strong was actually a nice funny guy who joked around a lot whilst the women held him in check.

Kian was pretty familiar with this.

Luna's parents had a relationship like this, and that was almost like Kian's second home.

Actually… When Kian thought about it, wasn't this the type of relationship he had with Luna but reversed?

Maybe not exactly but Luna definitely had a jokey side

"I was just kidding, but anyways what's your name kid, I'm Martin as you can see and this is Lillian"

Martin said while gesturing his hand towards the younger girl.

"I'm Kian, nice to meet both of you. I appreciate you helping me and my friend out, we're truly in your debt"

Kian answered while expressing his gratitude.

"Ah don't worry about it too much, I'm sure Landon needed someone of his age to talk to anyways. When he's not working he's studying so he doesn't interact with humans much."

Hearing this Landon sighed and looked at his father with slight disappointment.

Seeing this happy family exchange Kian couldn't help but think back to his old life with his loving family.

Well, at least he still had Luna.

But Kian still didn't know what was going on in his old world. Was he and Luna missing? Did they die? Were they currently Buried six feet under? Did time stop? Or even worse, did it all get destroyed when that fateful event happened?

Sulking in his thoughts, which was happening a lot these days Kian stood there for a few moments before Natalie spoke up.

"Well before Kian gets bombarded with questions you two should go change out of those work clothes and take a bath, Landon, let Kian borrow some of your clothes, you have plenty.

Kian and Landon were still in their work clothing which was drenched with sweat throughout the day.

"And Kian, you can be comfortable here, consider your home for the time being and if you need anything don't be afraid to ask"

Kian was slightly shocked by the amount of hospitality this family showed.

He imagined that in his world if two people were to mysteriously be passed out in your backyard you'd kick them out the moment you could get.

This only showed that Kian had more to learn about this mysterious land and how the people were accustomed to it.

After Kian had finished washing up he looked at himself in the mirror.

He'd still slightly flinch when seeing his two different-colored eyes.

The weird part was that no one said anything or pointed it out. Having two different colored eyes, especially to this degree would get you tons of stares and people questioning you about it.

So would this mean that people with two separate eye colors were less rare here or that they were already accustomed to so many strange things that this didn't seem like a detail to mention?

I mean in a world that supposedly possesses a type of magic a black and red eye doesn't seem too far-fetched.

After having his little monologue he walked back downstairs where a delicious smell came from.

"Ah Kian you're done, please, have a seat I'll make you a plate, you must be hungry from working with Landon"

Natalie said in a calm motherly voice

"Ah, yes thank you"

He responded while sitting down at the table with the rest of the family.

As Kain sat down Martin looked towards him before asking him a question.

"So Kian, why were you and your friend on my farmland passed out, and why did you both appear so out of tune with the environment?"

'Ah here it is

The question Kian had been waiting to answer.

He had put a lot of thought into what he was going to say when asked this.

His first thought, and the easiest, was to simply tell the truth. If he was just truthful he wouldn't have to come up with some elaborate lie and scheme.

Not to mention they could help him get back home, since this world possessed magic and something had sent him here he was sure there was a way back.

But the more Kian thought about it the more the plan fell apart, of course, it could work but it had way too many risks.

Firstly, they could just view Kian as some crazy person if he went with this, after all the crazy look Landon gave him when he said he didn't know what or where Celestia city was made sure it would spark something similar.

Secondly, what if people transmigrating into this world wasn't new and they had specific ways to deal with them?

Kian didn't know what the laws of this land were but with how history in his world was he wouldn't be too surprised if there was something like that. He just couldn't put him and Luna in that kind of danger.

And lastly, Kian didn't want to reveal all his secrets to them yet, he understood they took him and Luna in with open arms but in a new and mysterious world he could never be too sure.

So this idea had to be scrapped

"The story is rather long but I'll tell you, I and Luna originally came from a village far north of here. We grew up as childhood friends and our connection blossomed into a relationship as we grew older, but you see, our parents were part of two rival clans so they heavily tried to interfere with us."

Kian stopped for a moment, wording out the rest of the story.

"Them trying to constantly hinder our relationship had put a lot of stress on us so we had finally decided that we were going to leave. So we got a carriage and ditched the village. We had heard of a giant city and figured if we went there we could start anew."

Kian was using hand gestures to make the story more believable and reliable, so after making sure they all were paying attention to the story he continued.

"Well, that's what the original plan was, but after weeks of traveling our carriage was attacked by bandits who stole everything. So with no way of transportation but foot, we walked, and walked, hoping to reach someone who could help us. We must have passed out in your fields due to a factor of reasons, and since we came from the north, our attire was more fitted for colder temperatures."

This was the best backstory Kian could come up with in the minimal amount of time he had.

Of course, there were slight flaws in this story, if they were to ask what the village was named it would crumble but it was the best he could do.

But it looked like they believed in this story wholeheartedly due to the spark in everyone's eyes. Truly a trait this family has mastered.

"Wow, so two lovers who had the world against them rose ahead and ditched that world hoping to start anew, truly inspirational"

Martin said in an inspiring way.

Kian couldn't help but silently sigh in relief that his plan had worked.

"Kian… that was such a beautiful tale, you and Luna are welcome to stay here until you two figure out what to do"

Natalie, who was standing behind the table, seemed to be emotionally moved by Kian and Luna's journey as she was almost in cheerful tears.

"Really? I wouldn't like to be a burden on you all, I understand if you'd like us to leave"

Kian said he didn't want to trouble this kind of family after they helped him out so much.

But after hearing this Martin spoke up.

"Oh it's fine you wouldn't be a burden, and I'm sure Landon could use the help in the fields"

Kian turned to look at Landon who was sitting on his left.

But instead of being met with the usual sparkle of the blue eyes he was met with two piercing daggers that almost wanted to dig into his soul.

It only lasted for a split second before Landon's face went back to its usual lofty stance.

'Weird'

"Yeah I could totally use the help, it'd be great!"

After dinner, Kian had helped clean up part of the mess before turning it in for the night.

However, instead of going into his room, he went into Luna's.

He had started to get worried, what if she was going through a situation like Kian did and she suddenly woke up in a house she'd never been in?

Kian didn't want her to go through what he did, so he sat on a chair beside the bed to give her company in case she did wake up.

After sitting there for a while he grasped her hand and held it while resting his head on the bed.

"I love you, Luna, please be safe."

And with that Kian drifted off to sleep.
