The words left my mouth with a such a glass-shattering catatonic wave of condemnation, it was almost worse than the first moment I woke up as an immortal and realized what monster I had become.
I'd never thought anything could be worse than that moment. But I stood there in the middle of Jade's room, watching helplessly as she backed away from me. And I realized that there were things far worse than hell.
This was worse than any hell.
Having her see me for what I truly was. A monstrosity. A beast who did not deserve life as I had it.
I half expected her to either dash through the door, screaming at the top of her lungs to go call the police, or to burst into laughter and tell me I had lost my mind—which would not be untrue.
