Adeline sat on the sofa and was taking her birth control pill, when he entered the room.
"Thanks for letting me shower. I should've asked about condoms" he said, watching her take the pill.
"Don't worry your pretty little head about it" she smiled tossing the rest of the pills back into her bag.
"I'm Sam Olsen by the way" he smiled holding out his hand for her to shake.
"Adeline" she smiled shaking his hand.
"Can I take your number? This was good" he smiled. Adeline took one of her work cards out of her bag and handed it to him.
"Detective Superintendent Thompson. I just fucked a superior officer" he said making Adeline laugh.
"What are you working on?" She asked, watching as he took a seat next to her on the sofa.
"A drugs case. It's pretty big" he explained.
"I wouldn't want to keep you from your work" Adeline said.
"Your a very welcome distraction" he smirked, pulling her chin towards him. He connected their lips once again.
"I'm glad I could be of assistance" she smiled.
"I think I was more the assistant than you" he smiled. Adeline walked him to the door, handing him his coat, she watched until his car left the pavement outside of her home before closing the door behind her.
Jack entered Adeline's office with a frown painted on his face.
"Have you seen this?" He asked handing her the latest edition of the Guardian.
"I went out for a bite to eat. He sat down uninvited. I told him nothing. He left" Adeline explained.
"How did he know you were there?" He asked, taking a seat opposite her.
"I don't know. My guess is that he followed me" Adeline suggested.
"What did you say exactly?" He asked.
"I told him that he was a sexist after he offered me sex in return for information about the case. I told him to fuck off" Adeline said putting the paper down on her desk.
"I have a meeting today about the progress this department is making on all its open cases. This hasn't helped" he grumbled, turning to leave but Adeline stood up, catching him by the sleeve of his shirt.
"You know I wouldn't say anything" she said, her hand resting on his arm, feeling the heat of him underneath her fingers. Jack grumbled and nodded in response and left her office. Adeline moved his ring around her finger, no matter how much time had passed she still had him wrapped around her little finger.
Adeline watched the interview of their latest victim's ex-husband.
She called you leading up to her death. Twice.
She only called to bitch at me.
You don't seem remorseful of her death.
That's what happens when you start dressing like a slut. I wouldn't let her dress like that when we were married.
Is that something you controlled when you were married?
Of course. I don't want a dirty slut as a wife.
Adeline paused the video, she could see the bloodshot eyes and jitters. The victims ex-husband was a drug addict, a coke head.
Adeline's phone pinged pulling her out of her work trance- it was a text from Sam.
What are you doing on your lunch break? I think I need another dose of the brilliant detective Superintendent Thompson -Sam
Addie- You'll have to wait until tonight, I'm a very busy woman.
Sam- Can you not spare 15 minutes of your time for me? Please :-(
Addie- We'll need longer than 15 minutes. I'll see you tonight, 10 o'clock sharp. I don't like to be left waiting.
Sam- Yes ma'am.
Adeline smiled down at her phone, placing it on the desk before the door to her office opened, breaking her moment of peace.
"Ma'am there has been another murder" detective Pierce told her.
