As Oscar Wilde once said, "To live is the most rarest thing in the world most people just exist is all." Luckily I am not most people, many a day had I been hesitant and patient but today was different, no, today was special custom-made for moi by the man upstairs. It was my chance and I was going to take it.
"How do I look," I motioned to my apparent best friend.
"Well you're in a fine mood today, to what do we owe the cursing?" Ban laughed as he forcefully untucked my shirt.
I looked better this way in his mental bad boy comic. From his tone I wasn't even sure if he was joking. 'Rekab asked me to a date remember ...'
"Did the part where she mentioned involuntary guild mission with the beast hunt and the swamps skip your mind."
'Well either way she asked ME!' I defended my ego bruised.
"Yeah after she asked Taz, Sai and she even asked the Crimson brothers." he cackled, attacking me even more, a sinister grin enveloped his face as melancholy swallowed mine. I fled before the Darwinian could torment me any longer.
I hade made it just in time but as I caught a glimpse of Rekab I shuddered in dismay and hoping that I hadn't made it all.
"Hey Genie," she called out to me, "Glad you made it."
Eh me not so much, "Could have mentioned you were bringing company," I chuckled wryly.
"Oh yeah sorry I forgot to mention, these guys are stuck with me too but Sid just offered to lend a hand this being his forte and all. " she answered.
Sid, of all the abberations of hell in the guild it
just had to be him. See Satan would repent and go to heaven before I'd become friends with that annoying brat. Seeing him all close and comfy with Rekab didn't make me feel any better either. What ticked me off the most was that he wasn't even a rival, he was just a huge stumbling block in my path preventing me from an easy happiness. He was perhaps an agent of fate, meant to spice up the love story. Well, he must have been corriander, the one crappy spice I'm allergic to.
"It's been a while simp," I smiled wryly remembering the first time we met just before we took the entrance test.
"Yeah indeed it's been a while, ummm who are you again. "
"Genesis, sorry, I must have had you confused for someone else. I guess you just have one of those common faces." I almost lost composure though I knew he was pulling my leg.
We headed off into the jungle and from the focused expressions around me were telling me that this quest wasn't an easy one. I didn't want to create more trouble than I had already caused with my horse. As I'm sure you remember I have a man-eating and it had already made a bite at a few other adventures. Perhaps besides the quest I was the new biggest concern. What I enjoyed most about my ride other than the fearful stares that accompanied it was the sheer size. I could look down on other horse riders and the satisfaction was beyond compare. It was unfortunate however, that my short moment had to come to an end as we got deeper into the forest, the vegetation was just too dense and soon I was on my feet.
After a few odd vibrations the party came to a halt and readied their gear. "What are we even fighting," I enquired and my confusion was reflected back at me.
"You mean to say you just came along without knowing the quest, you cocky imbecile." Protests were thrown at me and I had to end up asking Rekab for a short briefing.
We had gotten a bit further from our horses when the vibrations grew stronger, the earth beneath my feet was quaking and honestly my heart was too. It's not that I was afraid but I had a thing against creepy creatures with no legs, snakes, snails, slimes and in this case an indus worm.
I tip toed to Rekab trying not to touch the ground as I felt the huge creature tunneling beneath our very feet. I whispered softly to Rekab, "hold me, please."
