Alex and Sarah had been roommates for several months now, but they still had no idea that they were secretly each other's arch-nemesis.
As they entered their apartment that night, both covered in bruises and scratches from their latest battle with Dr. Vortex, they exchanged a knowing look. They knew that they would have to come up with some excuse for their injuries, but they were both too exhausted to think straight.
"You look terrible," Sarah said with a smirk as they collapsed onto the couch.
Alex chuckled weakly. "You're one to talk."
For a moment, they just sat there, catching their breath and basking in the adrenaline rush of the fight.
But then Sarah's stomach growled loudly, breaking the silence. Alex chuckled again.
"Let's order in," he suggested. "I don't think either of us is up for cooking tonight."
Sarah nodded, and they spent the next few minutes scrolling through delivery options on their phones.
As they waited for their food to arrive, they fell into an easy conversation, talking about everything and nothing. It was strange, but despite the fact that they were mortal enemies in their alter egos, they got along surprisingly well as roommates.
Eventually, their food arrived, and they dug in with gusto. As they ate, they watched a movie together, occasionally making snarky comments and laughing at the ridiculous plot.
As the movie ended, Sarah stretched and yawned. "I should probably get some sleep," she said, standing up from the couch.
Alex nodded. "Yeah, me too."
As they headed to their separate rooms, Alex hesitated for a moment. He knew that he wanted to get to know Sarah better, but he had no idea how to go about it.
"Hey, Sarah?" he called out tentatively.
Sarah turned to look at him. "Yeah?"
"Thanks...for tonight," Alex said, feeling foolish.
Sarah just smiled. "No problem. We make a pretty good team, don't we?"
Alex grinned. "Yeah, we do."
As they went to bed that night, both Alex and Sarah were left with a strange feeling in their chests. They didn't know what it was, but they knew that it was something they would have to explore further.
