The next day, Alex woke up early and headed to the gym. As he worked out, his mind kept drifting back to Sarah. He couldn't stop thinking about how much fun they had had together the night before.
But then he shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. He couldn't let himself get distracted by his feelings for Sarah. They were still enemies, after all.
After his workout, Alex headed back to the apartment to get ready for work. But as he walked through the door, he immediately knew that something was wrong.
The living room was in disarray, with furniture overturned and papers scattered everywhere. And Sarah was nowhere to be found.
"Sarah?" Alex called out, his heart racing.
No answer.
Panic rising, Alex began to search the apartment, checking every room and corner. But there was no sign of Sarah.
Finally, he noticed a scrap of paper on the coffee table. It was a note from Sarah, written in her distinctive scrawl.
"Alex, I'm sorry to do this, but I had no choice. There's a new villain in town, and I have to take them down. I couldn't risk your safety by bringing you along. I'll be back as soon as I can."
Alex's heart sank as he read the note. He knew that Sarah was a capable fighter, but he also knew that she could be reckless. He had to find her.
With a sense of determination, Alex began to gear up. He knew that he had to do whatever it took to help Sarah and take down this new threat. And maybe, just maybe, he would finally get a chance to reveal his true identity to her.
