Chereads / Vigilante System / Chapter 11 - Beaten

Chapter 11 - Beaten

As Rian opened his eyes, he realized he was back in his cell. Getting up from his so-called bed, which was nothing more than a slab of concrete, he stretched his limbs, feeling stiff from sleeping in such uncomfortable conditions.

Rian began to walk around the small confines of his cell. He did this to get his blood warmed up and flowing before the knight came to take him to breakfast. He kept on pacing for a few more minutes until he felt the warmth start to spread through his body. Rian stopped pacing around his cell, he heard the familiar voice echo in his head.

[You know the drill]

After hearing that Rian heard the sound of his cell begin unlocked and sees the knight step into his cell with a rope.

"Come on, you know the routine" The knight sighed.

"I know" Rian replied.

Rian walked over to the knight and held out his hands so the knight could tie them with the rope. The knight quickly tied the rope around Rian's wrists, making sure it was tight enough to keep him restrained. The knight then grabbed the other end of the rope and began to lead him out of the prison cell and down the hall to the cafeteria for breakfast.

As Rian approached the cafeteria, the overpowering smell of stale bread and rancid meat filled his nose. Rian entered the cafeteria and went through his usual routine, as the knight untied his wrist and he joined the line of people waiting for food, scanning the options available. The food looked unappetizing, The meat was overcooked and the vegetables were mushy, but he tried to make the best of it. He knew he couldn't complain, as this was the only meal provided for him. Finally, Rian made it to the end of the line and took a seat on the floor. The noise level was overwhelming, with people shouting and laughing over the clatter of dishes and utensils. Rian took a deep breath and began to eat, trying not to think about the overpowering smell and the unappetizing food.

Rian took his last bite of food, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. He stood up from the floor and he walked over to the knight who was standing by the door, waiting for him. Rian held out his hands, palms up, and the knight tied them up once more. However, Rian noticed that the knight didn't tie the ropes as tightly as before. It gave him a glimmer of hope. Maybe the knight was someone he could semi-trust. Rian's mind raced with possibilities as the knight leads him back to his cell. Before the knight left Rian had something to say.

"Thank you for not tying the ropes too tightly," Rian said to the knight. "I appreciate it."

It was a small gesture, but it made a big difference to Rian's mood as Rian smiled.

Rian paced around his cramped cell, his mind racing with various thoughts. He had a few hours to spare before he had to head to work, and he was feeling restless. He had already done his morning routine and had nothing else to occupy his time. As he walked around the small space, he couldn't help but feel trapped and frustrated.

Rian though was interrupted as a quest appeared again in front of his eyes.

[Main Quest

Objective: Defeat/Take revenge on the two knights

Reward: 1 Skill]

Rian's mind swirled with confusion as he laid eyes on the unexpected quest that lay before him. Suddenly a sudden surge of telekinetic energy tore open his cell door. A jolt of shock coursed through Rian's entire being as he stumbled back, almost losing his balance but once his eyes locked onto the two knights and he began to start breathing heavily, Rian looked at the two knights standing in front of him. They were the same knights who had left him battered and bloodied just a few days earlier. Rian's heart raced as he tried to make sense of what was happening. Were they here to finish him off? The sight of their presence sent a shiver down his spine as they are seemingly thirsting for another round of brutality.

But as Rian's fear threatened to overwhelm him. He refused to be a victim.

With a firm tone.

Rian spoke his voice now steadier. "I've learned my lesson from the first time. I won't be your punching bag anymore."

An uneasy silence descended upon the scene, hanging in the air like a heavy fog, broken only by the exchange of knowing glances between the two knights. Their eyes flickered with a chilling mixture of amusement and contempt, foreboding the imminent torment they had in store for him. The silence shattered as they erupted into scornful laughter.

As the laughter subsided, one of the knights stepped forward, his armor clanking with each step. He approached Rian, who stood frozen in fear, his heart pounding in his chest. The knight towered over Rian.

"Stop us how?" The knight sneered at Rian, his voice filled with contempt.

For a moment, Rian hesitated. But then he took a deep breath and focused his mind. He began to concentrate, feeling the energy building up in his hands. Slowly, two small fireballs began to take shape in his palms, flickering and dancing with intense heat.

"I have the power of fire at my command," Rian proclaimed, his voice filled with conviction.

Without wasting another moment, Rian threw both small fires toward the knight's face. The fireballs soared through the air, and the knight's eyes widened in surprise. With a quick reaction, he managed to dodge the projectiles at the last second, narrowly avoiding their scorching touch. However, the sudden movement caused the knight to lose his balance, stumbling backward.

Rian took advantage of the knight's misstep. Rian lunged forward, fully focused on the first knight, Rian was caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the second knight. Before Rian could react, the second knight swiftly infused their fist with enhanced magic and delivered a powerful punch, sending Rian crashing into the cement wall of his cell causing pain to surge through Rian's body as he slumped to the ground, momentarily stunned.

Rian gritted his teeth and slowly pushed himself up, wincing as his body protested against the sudden movement. He shook his head, trying to clear his vision, and focused on the second knight who was now advancing towards him as the first knight is now getting back up from the surprise attack from earlier.

With a burst of adrenaline, Rian lunged forward dodging the powerful swing from the second knight. Seizing the opportunity, Rian concentrated his energy and covered his leg with intense flames. With a quick and swift motion, he delivered a low kick aimed at the second knight's legs, hoping to destabilize him.

The second knight stumbled backward, his balance thrown off by Rian's unexpected attack. Rian was ready to go after the second knight, but he remembered the first knight was still present. He quickly turned around to launch a fireball at the first knight, only to find that he had disappeared from sight. As Rian looked around, he heard a footstep behind him. It was too late for him to react as the first knight punched him with their fist infused with enhanced magic.

Rian felt the force of the blow and fell to the ground, stunned and disoriented. Rian's mind raced as he struggled to recover from the devastating blow. He knew he couldn't let himself be caught off guard again.

Rian realized that he can't afford to get hit again and that he was in a dangerous situation. He needed to act quickly if he was going to survive this battle. With his vision blurred and his body aching, Rian focused on honing his senses. As he heard the second knight advancing towards him, Rian mustered his strength and swiftly rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding another powerful strike.

Rian gritted his teeth as he rolled to the side, dodging the attack of the second knight. He used the momentum of his dodge to push himself back up onto his feet, wincing as the pain coursed through his body. He knew he couldn't afford to give up now. He faced both knights, his eyes locked on their movements. Rian knew that his fire attacks had proven ineffective so far, as both knights had managed to dodge or block them. He needed to find another approach. He quickly assessed his surroundings, looking for any advantage he could use to turn the tide of the battle. Spotting a metal pipe that came off the cell door was lying nearby, Rian's mind raced with possibilities.

Rian dashed towards the metal pipe, his movements fueled by determination. Rian's heart sank as he realized his attempt to gain the upper hand had been thwarted. He struggled against the telekinetic hold, but it was no use. The first knight's power was overwhelming, leaving Rian trapped and vulnerable.

With a menacing grin, the second knight approached Rian, his eyes filled with malice. "You thought you could fight back? How amusing," he taunted

Rian looked at the second knight with anger and fear.

The first knight then said, "Nap Time."

Rian didn't know what he meant, but he soon found out. The two knights began to beat Rian to a bloody pulp once more. He tried to fight back, but it was no use. The knights were too strong for him. Rian felt hopeless and defeated. As the blows rained down on Rian, his body ached with every impact, and his vision blurred from the pain. The pain was unbearable, and Rian knew he was close to passing out. Just when he thought it was all over, the knights stopped. The two knights looked at Rian and walked out of his cell locking in behind them. Rian was left on the ground, bruised and battered.
