Chapter 10: Murder
Arthur knew well what he meant by this.
'Somebody died? Is there danger?'
'Yup, am fairly certain and as for danger there is none'
Amon replied concisely. He already knew what Arthur wanted to do.
'I want to see what happened. Is that fine?'
'Sure. Just make sure it won't take too long'
Without saying anything else Arthur entered the narrow and dark alley.
He already witnessed death with Amon slaughtering the members of Ouroboros but what he saw there caused his heart to skip a beat and cold sweat to appear on his forehead. This was the first time he felt pure fear and disgust.
It was the body of a completely naked man which Arthur barely guessed since he couldn't be too certain at first with all the damage done to the body. He was split into parts and rearranged to form a 'flower'.
His torso was pinned to the stone wall with long metal spikes. His limbs are similarly pinned but on the wrong sides of the body. Legs on top and arms on the bottom.
Where was his head? In his wide open stomach of course and the worst part was that his 'sword' was cut off and put inside his 'dark sheath'.
'Did he murder the killer's parents and had his way with him after? Even in my worst moods I did not go so far. Is simply killing people too easy nowadays?'
Amon in contrast to Arthur was barely moved by the scene.
"This… how can a person do something like that to another?"
Arthur did not entertain Amon's remark and questioned with a heavy heart.
'Oh my sweet innocent boy… You see, some people are not very nice and don't like others very much either. Sometimes such people go on murdering others but I suppose that this is in fact a little too extreme'
'Don't joke with me Amon. Just answer me. Why?'
Amon was slightly taken aback. He did not answer Arthur for a long time and when he did, he did so in a very angry tone.
'You want to know why? I will tell you why. People are s*it and are killing each other for s*it. So stop asking me why and stop acting like you live in a fairytale. Every time you paused and admired every f*cking flower and the bird on your way here made me want to puke. Do you realise how stupid that is?'
Arthur was speechless.
Is this how Amon viewed him all this time? Is this how he viewed the world? He almost forgot about the dead body in front of him because of this.
'I am sorry… You are right. Now I see that the world has two sides to it and I should take things more realistically'
'No, it's my fault. I forgot that you are practically a child when it comes to stuff like this. I also apologise for my behaviour. It's just that I witnessed so many similar things that I grew numb to them. You see when you experience things like that so often you either go mad or start treating it as normal'
Amon sincerely apologised and Arthur got some insight into him because of it. His nihilistic and sarcastic character stems from a deep pain in heart! Amon is actually a nice guy that went through a lot! Who knew that because of this heinous crime Arthur would learn more about him? How lucky! Lucky?
'No matter. I understand now but what should we do about this?'
Arthur pointed at the mutilated beyond belief body and was unsure as to what to do.
'We live it be, obviously'
'What? Shouldn't we at least call for someone?'
'And then what? Policemen arrive and start asking questions. What will you do then?'
'Tell the truth of course'
Amon seriously wanted to facepalm when he heard this but since he was currently 'hiding' he couldn't do so and instead explained why this was a very bad idea in a very annoyed tone.
'Okay you tell the truth but then what? They will ask who you are and where you are from, not to mention you don't have any documents on you which they will for sure ask for. Let's just say that you will arrive in jail sooner than the killer'
Arthur only now realised that technically speaking he was in the city illegally. He was not a citizen of the Republic nor any other country for the matter. How could he have any identification on him? He was born in a tube after all.
If something happened and he would be asked for documents the only thing that awaited him was a comfy cell unless he used force of course.
He should be thankful that no one checks on that stuff when entering the city and if he would go on and report this crime wouldn't that be plain stupidity?
'I see now… then should we just leave?'
'Yes, we stayed here for too long already. The last thing I want to deal with right now would be you charged with murder'
After saying this they both made sure they didn't leave any traces and only then left the crime scene. Arthur suffered from goosebumps when he looked at the streets full of people blissfully unaware of the unspeakable crime committed just inside of the alley a few metres away from them.
Arthur navigated through different streets and with some consolation from Amon he put the matter of the murder at the back of his head.
He soon arrived at where he believed his destination was.
