Chapter 13: Papers

Coln district, near a bar called the Ronin.

Arthur looked at his pocket watch. It was already past midnight and he seemed troubled.

"Will she be fine? Almost thirty minutes passed since she went in there"

He expressed his worries to Amon who was standing next to him in the shadows.

"She insisted that she should go alone and believe me, a couple of thugs will not be able to stop her"

Amon in contrast to Arthur appeared relaxed.

"How can you be so sure?"

Arthur was not satisfied with simple reassurement and wanted to know why Amon seemed so confident in Renfri.

"Tsk… That's because she is…"

He did not manage to finish the sentence as a sudden loud commotion inside of the bar caught both of them off guard.

A man was thrown through the window and landed on the street. He looked extremely beaten up and barely stood up after grunting in pain. In panic he fled the scene while looking back occasionally, seemingly to confirm he was not being chased.

"See I told you she can handle this"

"I don't think that qualifies as handling things"

"Nonsense"

Amon and Arthur commented on the more and more chaotic situation in the bar. Through the windows they could see bottles flying in what looked like a complete battle royale and from time to time they got a glance of Renfri going completely feral on everyone around her.

"Well I suppose that our plan of dealing with this quietly went of the window… literally"

Amon was very amused by the situation and Arthur only shook his head not knowing what to think of the matter.

"Won't that gather attention on us just like you said earlier?"

"Nah, no one will make a big deal out of a few broken bones and besides…"

He smiled and paused for a second before finishing.

"It's not like we did any of that right?"

Arthur looked at Amon strangely.

"We are not going to betray her"

He simply proclaimed and did not say anything else.

"Why? Did she catch your eye?"

Amon did not take that to heart and even joked about it.

"She is helping us and something like that should not be repaid with a knife to the back"

Arthur did not muse Amon's remark and doubled down on his stance.

"Ehh… fine have it your way…"

Amon did not argue and shook his head looking slightly disappointed.

Sometime later. Inside 'their' hideout in the Coln district.

"So everything went to plan actually? It's just that someone got too drunk?"

"Pretty much"

Arthur was bewildered after hearing how everything happened.

He was extremely anxious that all of them would be in trouble and that Renfri would be hurt but as it turns out the deal went off without a hitch not to mention she did not even have a scratch on her. It's just that some drunkard fell too confident and that started a brawl which as he also learned happens at least twice a week in that bar.

"Are you okay? You seemed really worried"

"Yea, It's just that I was afraid something would happen to you"

Renfri was a bit surprised by the answer. There was no sarcasm in his voice nor any ridicule instead he seemed honestly worried about her.

"Umm… thanks"

She glanced at Amon and then looked back at Arthur. Judging from her expression she seemed to be asking herself how in the world those two got together, no matter what she thought of it did not make sense. They were like fire and water or better yet…

"Anyway, you guys did not specify what surnames you wanted so I took some liberty and from now on both of you can call yourself Amon White and Arthur Dark respectively"

Renfri handed them their identification documents and the beautiful irony did not escape Amon.

"Dark and white… how very clever"

He technically complemented Renfri but the way he said it made her suffer from goosebumps.

"How cool! So from now on my name is Arthur Dark?"

The slightly awkward situation was dispelled by Arthur who finished reading the document.

"Can I ask what's your surname Renfri?"

He asked with a curious and excited expression.

"It's Reid. My full name is Renfri Reid"

She was slightly surprised by how much joy simple surnames gave to Arthur and wanted to ask why that was the case but seeing Amon smiling at her in silence she decided against doing so.

'Seriously what happened to make them work together? One is a literal devil and the other acts like a naive child. How? JUST HOW???'

The task of figuring out the answer seemed beyond her capabilities and ultimately she gave up and decided to change the topic. With a serious expression she turned to look at Amon.

"Is our deal over?"

"What do you mean? It did not even start yet, this was just a side quest if anything"

"Sigh…"

Renfri was not angered by the answer and honestly expected something as such.

"Then what do you want me to do?"

She accepted her reality quickly and with the mentality the quicker the better she asked what he wanted from her.

"You will know in due time"

Amon gave a vague answer.

"What are you guys talking about?"

Arthur, tired of not understanding anything, finally asked.

Both Renfri and Amon looked at him awkwardly, not knowing what to say for two diffrent reasons. They just smiled and decided to call it a day without explaining anything.
