Chapter 3 - More then one way to fend

Sig breathed a sigh of relief as he read the completion message of both the mission and the personalized side-mission. He had not only survived the enemy assault, but also completed the task of defeating the enemy within the given time limit. He couldn't wait to see what the random equipment he received was.

As he looked around the room, he couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in his accomplishment. The scattered pieces of the wooden doll were evidence of his achievement.

Without wasting any time, he checked his rewards and discovered a rugged wooden stick. Sig inspected it carefully, noting its weight and balance. Although it felt good in his hand, he knew it wouldn't last him long.

-------------------------------------

[Wooden Stick]

[Damage: 1-3]

[Durability: 20/20]

[Description: The Wooden Stick is a simple yet sturdy weapon that can inflict a small amount of damage ranging from 1 to 3 points. It has a limited lifespan before it becomes unusable. The weapon is constructed from lightweight yet durable wood, making it easy to handle and maneuver in combat. It's a trustworthy and practical choice for those who prefer a more straightforward method of combat or who don't have access to other weapons.]

-------------------------------------

The wooden stick was a temporary solution, but he was still grateful for the extra help. Sig became aware that he was struggling to survey his surroundings without the aid of sound vibrations. He had an idea to utilize the wooden stick as a cane to assist him in detecting his environment, rather than as a weapon. To test his theory, he lightly tapped the tip of the stick onto the ground. As he predicted, a vibration wave was released each time he struck the ground with the stick, and the scanning radius varied based on the strength of the vibration.

Sig couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia as he realized the versatility of the wooden stick. Memories of his childhood flooded his mind, reminding him of the day he first received a cane to assist him in navigating his surroundings due to his eyesight disability. It was a tough transition, and he still remembered the coldness of his parents' explanation that the cane would make him less reliant on them.

His heart ached as he remembered how difficult it was for him to adjust to his new way of life. But the cane had become his savior, his friend, and his confidant as he learned to explore the world around him. It was his constant companion, never leaving his side, even in his darkest moments.

As he held the wooden stick in his hand, he couldn't help but feel the weight of the memories and emotions it held. He tapped the ground with it, and the vibrations that coursed through his body made him feel as though he was reliving his childhood once more.

Now, as an adult, he found himself in a similar situation. The wooden stick had become more than just a weapon; it was a tool to help him navigate his surroundings. He tapped the ground again, feeling the vibrations travel up the stick and into his hand. It was a sensation that brought him back to his early days, when he had to navigate through life on his own in the slums, rejected by both society and family. But with it, he knew he had the strength to overcome any obstacle that came his way.

After taking one last look around the room, Sig prepared to move on to the next area. However, he noticed that the broken wooden doll he had hoped to use as an additional weapon had disappeared.

Leaving the room, he entered a spacious lobby that resembled the previous one. The silence made him uneasy, and he sensed that something was amiss.

Looking around, Sig saw three doors with signs above them indicating the different floors. He realized that he had to choose one of them to proceed, but he wasn't sure which one to take.

The signs read: [Floor: 0-2-A], [Floor: 0-2-B], [Floor: 0-2-C]. He wondered why he was given different choices and speculated that the higher the letter, the harder the difficulty of the mission. Since he had chosen the easiest option in the past, he thought about testing his theory by selecting the hardest one this time to earn a greater reward.

Steeling himself for the challenge ahead. He made his decision and headed towards the door labeled "Floor: 0-2-C."

As he approached the door, he noticed that it was made of a different material than the other doors. It was thicker, more reinforced. He took this as a sign that his theory may be correct.

Without hesitation, Sig pushed open the door and stepped into the next room.

*Splash*

'Huh?'

As he stepped through the door of the lobby and into the next area, he was immediately struck by the sound of his footsteps splashing in the puddles of water that filled the room. As he took a few steps forward, he realized that the water was ankle-deep. The air was thick with the scent of dampness and mildew, and he could hear drops of water falling from the ceiling.

Sig pulled out his wooden stick, using it as a guide to avoid tripping on anything hidden beneath the water's surface. He slowly made his way forward.

Sig heard a man's voice in the distance and cautiously called out, "Is anyone here?" As he approached the source of the sound, he accidentally hit a glass wall with his wooden stick. On the other side of the wall, the man who had called out to him was standing.

The man spoke anxiously, "Who are you? Do you know where we are?"

Sig shook his head in response. He was not particularly fond of socializing and preferred to keep to himself.

The man continued, "Anyway, let's exchange some information. Since we're both in the same room, it's likely we'll have to team up to complete this mission."

Sig hesitated for a moment before agreeing to share information with the man. He didn't trust anyone easily, but he knew that working together would increase their chances of surviving and completing the mission.

"I'm Sig," he said, introducing himself. "I don't know much about this place and why I had been brough here, but I'm trying to find a way out. Before reaching this place, I've been to two other rooms. What about you?"

The man introduced himself as Alex and revealed that he had been brought to this place against his will similarly to himself. He had been wandering around two other room before standing here.

As they were conversing, a hologram suddenly appeared in front of them. revealing the content of the floor's mission.

After the hologram disappeared, Sig and the man looked at each other.

"Doubt will be able to help each other with this glass wall separating us. Seems like we have to fend for ourselves."

Sig felt a pang of disappointment as he heard the man's words. He knew that the glass wall between them would make it difficult for them to help each other, but he couldn't help feeling a sense of disappointment if he ended up not completing his side-mission because of this bridge between them.

However, the man's next words surprised him. "I pity you," he said with a tone of sympathy. Sig raised an eyebrow, wondering why the man felt sorry for him.

"Why is that?" Sig asked, curious.

Alex hesitated for a moment before responding, "Well, you seem to be visually impaired. I doubt this can be any good in here. I'm actually surprised you made it this far."

Sig felt a twinge of annoyance at the man's words, but he didn't let it show. Instead, he replied confidently, "You'll be surprised with my resilience in living."

Alex chuckled, "Hahaha! I don't doubt it one bit! Good luck to you."

Sig nodded and turned to leave, determined to prove the man wrong. He may be visually impaired, but he refused to let that hold him back. He had come this far, and he wasn't about to give up now.
