Chapter 13 - A Visit To The Palace

Sapphire

After spending time with Grandma, I left for the palace of Atlantis. It was a long journey with me swimming steadily. When I got to the palace, the gate was guarded by two mermen. They were both bare chested and heavily built with deadly sharp silver tridents in their hands.

When I stopped in front of them, they jammed their tridents together creating a X symbol.

"Strangers are not just allowed into the palace." The one with yellow hair spoke still looking straight forward.

"Then how are they allowed to enter the palace?" I asked him sarcastically as the other black haired one looked at me like I was a fool for asking that question.

"How? You have to book an appointment before you are summoned." He spoke through his gritted teeth glaring at me, his eyes glaring daggers at me. I don't know what prompted me but I thought of purposely annoying them.

"But I don't have an appointment?" I said smiling mischievously at him.

"Get out of here." He growled at me, easy tiger.

"What's going on here?" I heard a voice from behind the guards, we all turned to see an elderly man. I recognized him, he was an Elder of the Council of Supernatural Community.

"Agent Stone, what a pleasure to see you again." He smiled that politician megawatt smile meant for the cameras, which I knew charmed a lot of people. But how did he know me? He was a public figure but I don't think I had ever met him one-on-one before. The guards were actually perplexed that such a respectable person would know me.

"Sir, she was trying to enter the palace without an appointment." The black haired guard spoke up.

"She's an agent from The Paranormal Bureau Investigation Of Supernatural Crimes, I guess?" He arched his brows at me at which I nodded in affirmation.

"So grant her passage Damon." He issued his command waiting for the guards to uncross their tridents. Though Damon hesitated for a little before removing his trident for me to pass.

As I swam after the elder, I looked back to see Damon staring at me with distaste. I didn't even think before I stuck out my tongue and gave him the fuck you sign with my fingers. Guess the asshole knew that I was a half-mermaid and something else.

We were already inside the palace and also properly dressed. Remember, the ancient magic that helped to keep the water from entering the buildings. Not that I wanted to see the elder's nakedness even though he was attractive for his age. His facial features were pleasant to look at, especially with aristocrat high nose that's for his face perfectly well. He also had a very good body structure that looked great with his height. We were both silent as we kept walking as we passed through different passageways and guards. I was dying with curiosity to know why this man rescued me from the situation outside with the guards.

"So how is your grandma?" Huh? Which one was he talking about?

"Sorry to ask Sir..

"Eric." He offered his name.

"Which one are you referring to? Since I have two grandmas." He chuckled at that.

"Oh I forgot, how is dear Anastasia?" He asked gracing me with that megawatt smile that would charm you into telling him anything, even your deepest secrets.

"She's fine." I returned the smile not offering any additional information.

"Please pass on my greetings to her." I nodded, he knew that I've caught on that he was fishing for information but still he wasn't embarrassed. The rumors of Grandma Anastasia being ill must have been spreading through their circles.

"You've grown into an incredible young woman Miss Stone." My forehead creased in thought as I tried to remember where I could have met him.

"At the ball that was hosted at your grandma's place." I squinted my eyes as I forced myself to remember, when the memory suddenly flashed in my head. I was fifteen when grandma Anastasia hosted a party at the house celebrating her 60th birthday. It was mostly attended by elites of the supernatural community including the Elders of the Council Of Supernatural Community. I accompanied grandma Anastasia to greet most of her guests, though I didn't feel comfortable doing it since I was exposed to a lot of people.

"I see you remember me now." I nodded at him and thanked him for the earlier compliment.

"You are welcome. So tell me Miss Stone why are you here."

"It's an urgent matter which I wish to discuss with the king." He stopped when he heard what I said.

Sensing that he was waiting for me to elaborate on the issue, I continued speaking

"Sorry Sir Eric, I can't say anything to you until I confide in the king. It's classified information but I can assure you that it is a matter of national security risk." I swallowed and I took a deep breath.

"Then we must hurry along Miss Stone." He concluded as he led to I was sure to the king.
