No! I refused to believe that it was the same Micheal Steel I knew back in highschool.
"Detective Stone, are you okay?" Sir Martins asked clicking a finger in front of my face
"Yeah, I am good." He looked at me suspiciously.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah so when is he resuming work?"
"Today...." A knock on the door interrupted him.
"Who's that?"
"It's Buck, sir. I'm here with the visitor." Visitor? Oh my gosh! Don't please let it be Micheal Steel.
"Come in. That's fast." Sir Martins muttered the last part to himself.
The door clicked open to reveal Buck and the boy who I thought I would never lay my eyes on again. The said boy was now a grown up man. I watched as he entered along with Buck shaking hands with Sir Martins.
"It's a pleasure to meet you sir." Asshole already kissing ass.
"My pleasure, Detective Steel meet Detective Stone." At that instant he turned to look at me. I saw the shock in his eyes before he masked it but at least that was a win on my side. He never expected to see me here.
"Welcome to our division Detective Steel." I shook hands with him with a fake smile. His hand was a little on the rough side but that didn't matter as I pressed his hard hard with supernatural strength. I was disappointed when he didn't show one ounce of discomfort.
"Ok I think the handshake gas gone on ft too long." Buck tried to laugh it off as he felt the strained energy between us.
"Ok I'll be taking my leave now." I nodded at all of them and left the office.
It was a battle keeping my nerves together in there. I rushed into the toilet nearly collapsing against the wal and entering one of the stalls. I felt like the walls were closing in on me, I was this close to a panic attack. Just seeing Micheal again after all this years was triggering this feelings in me. I met Micheal Steel in highschool where he was my first love. Infact he was my everything, first kiss, sex partner and the first boy to break my heart. Just remembering what he did to me in highschool before he disappeared and nobody ever saw him again.
The door opened as a pair of legs entered talking and laughing.
"Oh my gosh, have you seen the new Detective?" One of them cooed. I scoffed as their conversation kept me grounded.
"No, I haven't seen him." I heard the sound of the leg becoming closer as it entered the stall close to me. After doing her business she flushed the toilet and went out.
"You need to see him! Though I caught a glimpse of his face, he was still handsome." She tattled in excitement.
"That means he will be introduced to us right?"
"Of course he will". I replied sarcastically loud for the two other ladies to hear my voice. The toilet became quiet.
"Is someone in there?" One of them asked, I could hear the fear in her voice. I didn't answer putting them on the edge.
"Leslie let's go, this place is giving me the creeps." The one cooing about Michael's handsome commented before I heard them leave. Ew! She didn't wash her hand after using the toilet. I left the stall and washed my hands staring at myself in the mirror. I needed a prep talk to make me feel alive, something to lift my spirits up.
"Ok now listen up Detective Stone, I know you are probably discouraged by what's going on." I talked to myself pointing at my reflection.
"You've worked so hard to get to this point on your career only to have the position you have always coveted handed on a platter to someone." Would I take this lying down and do nothing about it?
"No, you will not. You will stand and fight for your right." I jabbed at the mirror with all seriousness. Ok that sounded dumb but right.
"You will focus on doing better so that the higher-ups see that you are better than this Micheal Steel guy." I nodded my head at my reflection with determination written all over my face.
"And I won't take this lying down." The least I could was make Micheal Steel's life a living hell that he would regret ever taking the job in the first place. My position in the first place, I laughed in a villainous way just within rubbing my hands together. I heard a sound, I turned to see a woman looking shocked with her jaw almost dropped to the floor. She saw all that, me talking to myself. She might think I was a lunatic.
"You never saw any of that." I shimmered her feeling just a little guilt. I didn't need someone spreading rumors about me going crazy.
