Sir Eric walked fast as I tried to keep up with his pace. Elderly supernaturals aged differently from humans in the aspect that in their 70's or more depending on the paranormal species they are still agile. Sir Eric stopped in the front of a door that was heavily guarded. I guess this was the room where the king receives guests or carry out The king meetings. The two guards in front of the door pressed their tridents against each other. What was their problem?
"Please notify His Majesty of our presence."
"Yes Sir Eric." One of the guards nodded as he opened the room and enters the room. Moments later, he came out and allowed us passage to enter.
When we entered the room, I was shocked by the room itself. It was opulent, was decorated beautifully and fit for a Merking. We sat on vacant seats and waited for the king to grace is with his presence. A door from the side of the room opened to reveal the king in all his glory. I would have rolled my eyes but I liked where my head was, perfectly aligned with my neck. The king Stephan Triton who was a descendant from the line of Triton who was greatly favoured by Poseidon the god of all water bodies. He was a proud man with heavily muscled body which was clothed with simple regalia garments. He had a thick beard and his face was not what you described as being handsome but wildly attractive.
We were all silent as he settled on his chair releasing a deep sigh.
"To what do I owe this impromptu visit?" King Triton asked placing his chin on the palm of his left hand. I cleared my throat and stood up addressing the king.
"My name is Agent Stone, an agent of The Paranormal Bureau Investigation Of Supernatural Crimes. Your Majesty I come here with an urgent issue." He gestured with his hand urging me to continue.
"A mermaid has been murdered on the bank of Lake Union." Sir Eric coughed in shock and the king sat upright back straight on his floor.
"What are you saying young lady?" He seemed to be in disbelief.
"My king it's true, she died of asphyxiation." I would shown them the picture but we could also use a mind reader.
"Is there any mind reader in this palace, they can help to project what I saw." I offered.
"Yes there is. Gary get me a mind-reader here." King Triton yelled. Moments later the door opened as one of the guards stationed at the front of the door came with a delicate young lady. I guessed she was a shy one because her eyes were cast down, even when she curtsied before the king and bowed at Sir Eric.
"Young lady are you a mind-reader?" He asked to confirm.
"Yes Your Majesty." She replied with a quiet voice trembling slightly.
"Then I need you to help us check this lady's mind here." The king pointed at me. I hoped that the girl was at least medium level with her power else she won't be able to see anything except I projected it to her.
She walked to me and touched me with her left hand. I waited to see any reaction on her face but there were none. It meant that she was a weak mind-reader, so I projected the images of the scene of the autopsy. I watched as she gasped in shock as her eyes widened in terror and she fell down shaking like a leaf.
The king now sat on the edge of his seat on anticipation as he watched the spectacle.
"So young lady, what did you see?"
"It was terrible Your Majesty..." Her voice shook as she recounted the images I projected into her mind. The king's face tightened in rage as she finished.
"Young lady, you can leave." He commanded as the guard picked the girl from the floor and took her away with his hand holding her firmly by the elbow.
King Triton turned towards Sir Eric with the rage still on his face. Sir Eric looked uncomfortable by the way the king was staring at him.
"Sir Eric I thought you handled the issue of the missing girls." So girls were missing? The case was big.
"Of course my king." Sir Eric stammered.
"Then why am I hearing this?" He asked arching his brows.
"I will handle it, my king I promise." Sir Eric face and tips of his ears were flushed a light red. He must be embarrassed as his duty and position was being questioned by the king.
You better, thank you Agent Stone for drawing my attention to this." The king thanked me as he left the throne room.
