When they got into their apartment, Mason could see that Dylan was upset about the questioning but he didn't say anything, instead they prepared and went to school. Dylan could not concentrate during his class, he wondered who was stalking Avery so he logged into his social media to check her page. Mason did the same thing at his class, and that's when they saw that she was live stream. She seemed fine and the pinned heading of the live video was "I don't have a stalker, this is all a misunderstanding." They were both interested in whatever she was saying so they connected their airpods and heard her say, "...everywhere so I thought he was stalking me because he was everywhere and he'd just stare at me. We eventually spoke at this party I went when I went up to him, so now I think we're good."
While Dylan wondered who it might be, he also suddenly felt like he should have been more understanding about her situation instead of reacting the way he did earlier. He exited the live stream and proceeded to check out her posts and that was when he felt drawn to her. She stared at her pictures, laughed at her funny videos. He enjoyed going through the page that he stayed on it for an hour till Troy called him...
Mason first response when he heard her talk about the stalker was him chuckling and murmuring, "Wait a minute, I was really the stalker those guys were looking for?" He listened to her throughout the live stream and found himself enjoying himself. He laughed at her joke and just thought she seemed cool. While at it, his phone rang and when he checked to see the caller, it was Dylan, and he called him to tell him that Troy just told him that some bodyguards were at his house asking him questions. That they asked him to provide the names of the people that attended the party, and he was asked to produce the footage from the CCTVs installed at every point of the house. Dylan also told him that the Dean had sent for the basketball players because he was informed that the party was attended by every member of the team.
When the team returned from the Dean's office, Mason called Ian to ask him what was going on. "They just asked a bunch of questions about the people the girls spoke to, where they were hanging out, and if anyone saw anyone giving them anything or putting anything in their drink. Then if anyone saw anyone behave suspicious towards the girls."
"I think I know who this stalker might be." Mason replied.
Shocked, Ian asked, "You do? Who was it?"
"It think it was me."
"What?" Ian laughed and then asked, "How do you know you're the stalker she's talking about?"
"We talked about it that night and she literally narrated our first official meeting on her live video to over three hundred thousand people."
"Did she mention your name though because that would really suck."
"No, but if anyone knows us, how we met, they would know it's me she was on about."
"And does anyone know?"
"Besides you now, nobody else knows." Mason turned on his phone and decided to check his social media, he was still on Avery's page and Ian saw it. He didn't comment he sensed that Mason felt more about Avery than a one-time hangout. He knew Mason had a crush on Avery.
After scrolling down Avery's feed for a while, Mason turned to Ian and said, I'll see you later, Man." Ian nodded and they walked in opposite directions.
As soon as his classes were done for the day, Mason called the estate chauffeur to come drive him home. On his way home, he got a call from his father.
"Hello Father"
"Mason! My boy! How are you?"
"Doing good Father"
"Still mad at your old man?"
He knew this was not a friendly check-in. Mason knew that his mum put his father to this and he was not in the mood for the theatrics. Talking to his father was a chore he preferred not to participate in. So, he took a deep breath and said, "What do you want Father?"
"Can't you see I'm trying to be here for you? Would it kill you to say dad every once in a while? I'm your dad, Mason."
"Fine! Whatever you want, Jesus Christ!"
"Look, I heard there is a stalker in your school"
"There's no—wait, how did you know about that?"
"Nothing gets past me. Same way I heard that a Musk is in your school. You know of my history with that family, I want you to avoid everything with the Musk. They are not what they seem. Dawne is a sneaky son-of-a-bitch. He is heartless, selfish and the most sly person I know, I just know his children will inherit his vile ways! So, stay away from them!"
Mason rubbed his temple. He wondered why his father hated the Musk's till date. He heard from his mother that his father loved Aurora, Dawne Musk's wife and did everything to be with her in high school but Dawne stole her away when he set him up and Aurora's heart changed for him. The story was weird and stupid and Mason didn't care about a stupid beef. He had met Avery, even if it was for a night, he knew that she was a sweet person and he hoped his father would let an aged beef go.
"Don't you think it's time to let go of this—"
"What did you just say?"
"Nothing, forget I said anything. Thanks for calling, we'll talk—"
"I'm not done!" His father roared from the other end of the phone. "When I say stay away from them, I mean it! This is the last time we will have this conversation! Bye!"
Before he could say anything, his father had hung up.
"Great, and you wonder why we are not close" Mason murmured. That's when he noticed that the car stopped moving for a while because he was home. So he got out and headed to the elevator. The elevator door opened and revealed him to Avery, a guy and a woman, who he presumed were with her—even though she was talking on the phone, but he just walked past them without saying a word. Avery tried to smile at him but he was cold to her, he was still very upset by his father. He wanted to focus on his family and his life at that point, besides he was too tired to speak and he didn't want to get caught in her drama—he thought his father was right because it had been less than twenty-four hours since they came here and Avery had already caused a major scene that had him at the centre, even though nobody knew he was the prime suspect, except Ian.. It took a night with her for him to be questioned by a bunch of bodyguards and his friends being questioned like that and he didn't want none of that anymore.
He heard the guy she was with ask her who he was, and she said, "I'm not so sure I know him..."
Yeah? Whatever! He thought to himself.
