October 2010...
The first time that she met Savannah, she didn't know what to expect. She thought Savannah would be aggressive and defensive but she was nothing like that. She was more reserved and calm than she thought. It seemed to be that Patricia's death wasn't the only death she ' didn't ' witness. It seemed she 'didn't' witness a few other deaths as well, but what made Katherine more curious about her, was the fact that she somehow didn't know anything about what was going on. It was like as if she just woke up at the scene after the crime had taken place which to Katherine, seemed to good to be true.
With the way Savannah acts and what Nathan has said about her, it didn't seem like Savannah was telling lies. In fact, with all what has happened to her over the series of years, it doesn't seem like she would lie about such an event, regarding the fact that her brother died recently in her presence . Anyone in her place would feel devastated and depressed.
With what Nathan has said about Savannah, Katherine doesn't know who to believe. Nathan is her childhood friend and she knows him more than anyone and she knows that he could never lie especially about something so serious.
This topic regarding Savannah intrigued her. She wanted to know so much more about her but didn't want to cross any limits.
Katherine lay in her bed, staring at the ceiling. Almost lost in her own world. Remembering all the good old days with just her and Nathan, before Savannah came into her life and changed everything.
It's not like as if she hated Savannah or anything. In fact, Savannah is more like the needle that brings the thread and the fabric together. If not for Savannah, Nathan and Katherine won't have had a reason to see eachother as often as they do now. Before all this, Nathan was always with Savannah, so much so that he barely had time for Katherine. All this made Katherine feel as though their distance would remain and they could never bond like the way they used to. Maybe it was because of their age gap or maybe it was because Nathan doesn't see interest in her anymore . Either way, at least Nathan pays more attention to her now. Who knew his attention would make such an effect on her.
All these memories took her back to when her and Nathan met after 2 years of being apart....
Katherine strolled through the stacks of clothes folded neatly on top of each other, looking for a new blouse that would match perfectly with her new black heels when a beautifully embroidered navy blue blouse caught her eye. She was about to take it and try it on in the dressing room when her phone chimed. Her attention shifted to her purse as she looked for her phone. She was about to give up when her hand felt something, she quickly grabbed it and pulled it out from her purse. ' Not again'. Katherine thought to herself when she saw the name Mom written in bold letters across her screen.
She reluctantly answered the phone and put it by her ear. " Mom" she said "Why did you call. I told you I was at the mall" she continued as she took the blouse from the shelves and made her way to the dressing room.
"Don't act so rude now. I called to remind you to come home early. I want to introduce you to_" Katherine's mom was cut short by Katherine.
" One of my old friends from school. They want to see how much you've grown over the years". Katherine quoted with a sarcastic tone. "Yeah yeah, I get it. I'll come home soon don't worry. Bye mom". Katherine said as she hung up before her mom could reply.
' Wow, this top would match perfectly with my new heels'. Katherine thought to herself while staring at the blouse when she bumped into a tall figure. She didn't concentrate fully on the person she bumped into, instead her eyes were glued to the blouse that fell on the ground. She was about to pick it up when the person she bumped into also attempted to pick up the blouse.
The two of them got down but the person she bumped into picked up the blouse before Katherine could. She got up and wanted to thank the person when she realised who it was.
Right I front of her was Nathan Reynolds wearing a blue checkered t-shirt and black jeans staring right at her. ' Is this...who I think it is'. Katherine thought to herself as she stared intensely at him.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Here's your blouse". Nathan said as he extended his hand to give her the blouse.
Katherine who was still shocked by his presence didn't hear what he just said and just continued staring at him. When she realised that he wanted to return her blouse to her, she quickly broke free from her daze and apologized before collecting the blouse from his hand.
When she saw he was about to leave, she quickly held his hand. Nathan looked back to see her, confused as to why she would do that.
"Oh, I'm sorry I just", Katherine said as if in a rush. She slowly takes a deep breath as Nathan turns around to look at her. "Don't you recognise me, as in, I'm Katherine". She said with a genuine smile on her face.
" Wait, Katherine!" Nathan says as he gasps. " Oh my goodness. How didn't I recognize you". Nathan says as the two of them hugged. By now, Nathan had grown a bit taller than Katherine.
The two of them stayed there, talking, laughing and reminiscing about the past. That was until Katherine's phone chimed, indicating her departure.
" So, are you still buying the blouse?" Nathan asks her as they are about to leave.
"Nevermind. It's not my size anyways". Katherine said as the two of them make their way out of the mall.
The two of them each arrive at their supposed destination's later that day.
"Where are the guests?" Katherine asks as soon as she notices how empty the living room is.
"Well", Mr's Adams says as she gets up from where she's sat. "They couldn't make it", she says as she approaches Katherine , " They said they had important things to attend to. So what took you so long?" Mrs Adams says as Katherine walked into the living room and places her purse on one of the couches.
"I was at the mall and I wanted to buy a blouse, but then I saw someone". Katherine says as she smiles, remembering their encounter.
"Someone? Who could this so-called person be?" Mrs Adams asks as she closes the front door.
"Nathan. I saw him today at the mall". Katherine says as she turns around to look at her mom.
"Nathan? But Jasmin didn't tell me anything about coming to South Carolina?" Mrs Adams says as she also turns around.
"Well, I didn't know about it either. I'm going to be in my room". Katherine says as she takes her phone out from her phone and makes her way to her room.
As soon as she gets to her room, she shuts the door behind her. Feeling a mix of emotions, she makes her way to her bed and sits down.
The two of them exchanged numbers at the mall, so she decided to text him.
Nathan was a forgotten part of her life, but now he's back and no one knows how the story would unfold...
