Chereads / The Grimoire: Battle Of Sorcerers / Chapter 20 - An Unknown Entity

Chapter 20 - An Unknown Entity

Alexander woke up just where he had landed the previous night, his body. was sore and swollen from the injuries he had received from his previous battle, but some of them had began to heal.

His head ached as he tried to recollect the memories of what had brought him here. A deserted forest with no trace of human alive around.

He was Lucky to be alive and not in a bears belly as breakfast. The bright rays of the sun stung his eyes forcing him to look down from the skies.

Sauntering to the river beside him, he bathed himself in the cold water it provided before helping himself to few gulps and drowning his aching head in the chill waters.

He had suddenly regretted his actions almost immediately, the faint memories of last night suddenly flashed through his head. His knees dropped down onto the rocks on the shallow riverbed, the sharp rocks jagged through his flesh, and the once clear river was now colored in red with hisa blood.

Hot tears dropped down his cheeks as he cursed his father with every breathe he took, his fist constantly pounded into the sharp rocks until he could no longer move them. The tears from his hazel brown eyes slowly stopped, as his tears ducts became unable to produce more of the salty liquid that soothed his pain. Even his own body tortured him.

He rose from the bloodied water of the river, his injuries already healed and his sullen face washed away with his blood and water.

His usual emotionless face returned but behind them masked a broken man who wanted nothing in life but the death of his father.

His eyes drifted quickly to the rustling behind the bushes and his gaze fell upon a wild rabbit. His stomach grumbled as if demanding for an instant feed. He stretched forth his hand and the animal instantly danced to his tone. The crunching sound indicated breaking bones as Alexander mercilessly brought it's life to a brutal end. The animal dropped dead with a pained squeak before floating towards it's killer.

He pulled a penknife from one of his pockets and began butchering his breakfast, his cooking instincts stepping in as he skillfully and quickly separated the unwanted guts from the main meat.

Pouring the animals blood around him, he rejuvenated himself a little, a creature this small could only restore only little of his strength. Nevertheless a little of his strength was all he needed to teleport out the condition he was in.

Conjuring up a little fire, he smoked the meat over the open flame, while constantly rotating the venison so no part of it was overcooked.

Alexander dug his teeth into the tender meat and savored the taste of his own cooking. His last battle had taken a toll on him and a nicely done meal was one of the needs he was in desperate need of.

He finally teleported after his meal and arrived at his designated location. His brother still laid unconscious, and on another couch laid his best friend whom he recognized as Richard Hardwood.

He slit open his wrist with his penknife in preparation of a spell. He took a deep breathe before casting both a cloaking and a barrier spell over the edifice they occupied. His brother's safety was his top priority and he was going to do anything in his power to protect him.

After all, he was the only family he had left, and he feared their father was still going to come back to finish what he started.

The thought of Jeffrey made him swell with anger but he contained himself and tried to focus solely on the spell he was casting.

He dropped to his knees after his spell. He had just used up the little mana he had gotten from his hunt earlier and now he was drained.

The sound of treading down the staircase got him back on his feet and alert all of a sudden. He turned to see the little boy who was evenly matched with his father.

The boy paused and made for a retreat but Alexander stopped him. A bit confused by the boy's actions.

Just yesterday he was going up against a demon in a human body and was holding his own and for some moment even winning, and now suddenly he's shy? Something wasn't adding up.

'Strange' Alexander thought, this boy had no magical aura around him, he was a normal human being but even his human aura felt strange and unique, unlike anything he has ever sensed before. No trace of magical energy came from him but yet he was able to display such power without effort against a Jeffery who was probably going all out for the kill.

Unless, his powers were too much for humans to detect. Uneasiness set in as he concluded his own theory. If this boy was to go berserk it would be their end.

He shook the thought out his head strongly convincing himself that he was one of the good guys, or at least he hoped.

Wilson approached the being who had called him back, he had only come down to take an apple for his growling stomach since the drama from yesterday prevented them from having a proper dinner, and now his human body was demanding for a refill. Instead, he had seen a stranger in their living room and was about to bring the intruder to his knees, when he recognized both the aura and face of the being.

He immediately made for a retreat but the man had heard him and now he was going to have a discussion he didn't plan for.

"How did you do it?" Alexander started forgetting every sense of formality and gentlemanliness. His curiosity and the desire to end his father had blocked every neuron that helped his gentle version function. He was out for blood, Jeffery's blood.

Wilson hesitated for a moment, not sure if he should answer the question. He could already feel the bloodlust and hatred that came after every word this man spoke, and he wasn't ready to encourage such emotions by telling him how to get into a death match with his father and emerge victorious.

In fact, he wasn't even obliged to think of giving him the answers to his question.

"You're not human are you?" Alexander added after the long silence between them. He wasn't sure but he could feel it. This boy was completely different.

The boy's indifferent expression scared him more, most people would flinch if their concealed identity was to be exposed, but this boy didn't even seem to be bothered. There wasn't even a slight disturbance in his energy flow.

But, it could also mean he was wrong and was just being delusional about ordinary things.

Wilson had already seen it coming. The man that stood less than five metres away from him was an intelligent man and a great analyst.

His mastery over the flow of human energy and that of sorcerers was evident, and the difference in his energy and others had easily given him off.

Even the Stigma brothers bore the aura of normal sorcerers, but he couldn't categorize his. It was perfectly normal to assume he wasn't human.

"I'm not" Wilson finally replied, his voice not that of a little boy but of a grown man. The melody of his tune and his accent made his voice inviting to the ear.

His once undetectable aura had suddenly risen above the charts, and had spread to other living things around in order not to overflow his physical body with the overwhelming power.

Alexander could feel it now, the pure angelic aura he gave off, even a faint of his pure aura was able to replenish his almost diminished mana and such power scared him.

"What are you?" Alexander asked trying not to show the fear he harbored inside of him.

'Such power' He admonished mentally, as he gulped down the fear that had crept to his mouth.

"The answer to your question will come later"Raphael replied trying to keep his words as short and direct as possible.

His identity wasn't something he could go around broadcasting, humans weren't supposed to have proof of celestials and one person was already too much.

"Why are you helping us?" Alexander questioned. He didn't bear any ill intentions with his questions, he just wanted to make sure that his brother was safe and himself too.

The boy who he doesn't even know his name had openly admitted to not being human, even though his immense power was already enough to give that off. He just wanted to make sure the alien's intentions were pure and he didn't have any ulterior motives for his kindness.

In the sorcery world, rarely nothing came without a collateral.

His curiosity has no bounds. Raphael thought even though he had already foreseen the future of their conversation. His visions were always mildly accurate, but there was no guarantee that what he had foreseen would actually come to pass. Humans were unpredictable and always did things that exceeded his expectations and he couldn't be more impressed with his father's creation, after all they were built in his image.

"I am simply helping because it's the right thing to do" Raphael said heading for the empty sofa behind him. "My mission is to retrieve an important artifact and until I'm done, i'm mandated to offer help to everyone who needs it and is within my reach" He replied.

Alexander bit his lips, everything seemed to fall into piece now, why his father would attack a teenager and a little boy made no sense up until now. He had almost completely forgotten the lance that had knocked Daniel out with a single strike, while Jeffery's attack had failed to do so.

If he was not mistaken, the boy that owned the apartment they occupied was a brother of Stigma and the rumors of his strength had been the talk of the Nature sorcerers.

If his source was correct then it was without a doubt, the weapon earlier was none other than the Holy Lance.
