Chapter 21 - Elders

Six figures sat around an annular table in a room that depicted royalty. They all seemed old, and their faces not a bit welcoming to any bit of laughter or fun. Each of them were drowned in seriousness, and the topic of their conversation was The Maledictio Caelum et Infernium.

The fiery background and the occultic symbols around clearly gave off the faction of sorcery they belonged to, The Infernal Judgement.

Every one of the men seated around the discussion table looked well above their seventies but none acted their age. They were all brimming with life and energy, their voices overlapped against each others, giving rise to a very unwelcoming noise that echoed across the room as they were all engrossed in a heated argument.

"Silence!" The man at the extreme bellowed. He was the only one who hadn't spoken a word since the bickering ensued.

Everywhere fell silent once they heard his authoritative voice speak.

From the look of things, he was their leader and was seemingly the oldest amongst them all.

His hands shook as he dropped them after trying to make a gesture that was seemingly ignored. His physical body seemed to be deteriorating but the man wasn't a quitter. His loud voice spoke more of the life that was hidden inside him more than his failing physical body did.

"Fellow Elders," he spoke, slowly rising from his seat "for long now, we've ruled over the sorcery world, our name instills fear into the hearts of our enemy and the flames from our past battles still burn till this day. Fighting over the possession of a book which isn't at hand is puerile and foolish! We must first retrieve the Maledictio Caelum et Infernium before we decide on whom it's powers shall rest" He concluded and sat.

The other men around sat in silence clearly embarrassed by the old man's words.

They had completely forgotten that one of their numerous enemies was in possession of the book they sought, and with every passing minute, his powers grew stronger.

The youngest amongst them sprung up just as the oldest sat. His face gleaming with joy at the thought that had raced across his mind.

"I think it's time we'd visit Jeffery Bruce, don't you think?" He asked still smiling at his suggestion much to the disappointment of the other five.

"Sit down Carlos!" The man who sat closest to the eldest shouted restraining himself from binding the overjoyed old man with his chains of hell.

"All these youngsters are careless Manuel," Simon spoke, "We've already lost James and now Carlos speaks to battle a man who posseses the most powerful Grimoire on earth without a plan" He reported.

"Carlos may be right" Manuel said in concurrence with Carlos much to the surprise of the entire Elders. "His words may not be the right ones but he has a point"

"What are you trying to say?" Carlos asked eager to know why the strongest elder had backed him up despite everybody's rejection.

"You mustn't necessarily take Jeffery up front, there are many ways the rat can be killed. We could go after his son's. He must surely show his face" Manuel said with the entire council nodding in agreement.

"Then please permit me to be the one who executes this plan, I'll bring his son back to the elders, and Jeffery Bruce will come crawling after" Carlos suggested.

The room fell silent for a moment, but after a minute Manuel spoke up.

"You may do as you please" He authorized, "however you aren't to kill Jeffery's son, do not act wildly on your emotions Carlos"

"Understood" Carlos replied with a bow. The goal was set, all that was needed now was to execute it.
