Ezekiel woke up to the sound of heavy rain hitting the roof of the motel room.
Just as he heard the sound of the rain, he felt like something was wrong, the weather was so cold to the point where snow has been falling down all these past days, and to hear the raindrops outside made him feel like something was not okay.
He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and looked over at his younger brother, Nathan, who was still sound asleep.
He still doesn't know how they both managed to fall asleep last night after all that tension in the air .
He slept on the ground leaning towards the bed where his little brother was sleeping .
A wave of protectiveness washed over him as he thought about the danger they were in and the uncertain future that lay ahead.
Last night he had to watch him cry in his sleep for a long time, and he didn't even know how to help him .
If he woke him up he was just going ro make things worse and that's why he just took his small little hand between his hands to comfort him with a little of a human warmth .
To him, it was the only thing that he could offer .
He quietly got out of the place where he slept and made his way down to the motel's entrance, hoping to find some food to bring back to Nathan.
Last night, the old lady made sure that no one would call for her as she removed her hearing device .
" I am quite sure that I will find nothing to eat here but candy, still…I have to look again " He said as he was descending the stairs slowly to not make noise and grab attention from him.
But as he approached the vending machine he was met with a shocking sight. The entrance was littered with blood, smeared across the walls and floor.
"What the ….hell !" He shouted .
Ezekiel felt his heart rate pick up as he wondered who could have done this and why.
He saw a lot of bodies on the floor, he managed to recognise two that he met last night, the man and the women ..
And there were a lot of girls and guys in their twenties dead in a very awful way .
Ezekiel counted them immediately, they were the total of twenty dead all in that place .
His first thought was that the government was responsible.
"It must be them ….the government, " He said as he looked around him.
Then be thought :" Why ? And if the government is the one responsible for this then why am I here ? Why am I not with them ?"
Ezekiel and Nathan had been on their trail for some time, and it wouldn't be a stretch to think that they had finally caught up with them.
But as he stepped closer to the entrance, he noticed something odd. There were no signs of struggle, no footprints leading in or out, and the blood was still fresh and wet.
" This doesn't make any sense, if the government did this, the scene was going to look more violent, and there will be signs of breaking in the motel …there is nothing "
Ezekiel cautiously stepped inside and cautiously approached the reception desk.
He wanted to see if there were any survivors to tell him what happened there .
He gasped when he saw the old lady who ran the motel, sitting on the ground with a knife in her hands .
The knife was not even a normal knife ..
Ezekiel stood frozen, staring down at the old lady's lifeless body. He couldn't believe what he was seeing.
" What happened here ? " he asked very fast .
He was so curious about what happened there and that is why he didn't even waste a second as he asked her .
The sight of the knife, its blade shining in the dim light, made him realise something that he didn't when he first looked into her eyes...
This was no ordinary knife; it was a magical one, and she was using it with a spell that makes it change its length.
" I know this spell" he shouted.
As he took a closer look, he noticed something even more shocking. The blood was not just smeared on the walls and floor, but also on the old lady's hands.
'Huuuh …this lifeless lady …is the only survivor here ,and it doesn't make any sense to me ' he thought ..
" What happened here ?" He aked even after seeing that suspicious look in her eyes .
"Help me boy …someone attacked us all od a sudden " She yelled .
He couldn't believe it, but it was becoming clear that she was the one who had killed all those people.
Ezekiel used to people pulling an act in front of him therefore he could never fall for such a lousy act .
Regardless of the reasons behind the old lady's actions, Ezekiel knew that he and Nathan were not safe.
"How come you're the only survivor?" Ezekiel asked the old lady suspiciously.
She hesitated for a moment before answering, "I was able to hide under the desk. They didn't know I was there."
Ezekiel studied her closely, trying to gauge if she was telling the truth. He had learned the hard way that not everyone could be trusted, especially when after being stabbed in the back by his own parents just for being different .
"Who did this?" Ezekiel pressed. "The government?"
It was one of the methods he always used , if she answered this question right away then she is involved deeply in this masacre.
The old lady hesitated again before finally admitting, "Yes. They're getting closer and closer to finding us. We need to leave this place, and fast."
" Why ? I am not hiding for them …only people with supremacy should hide from them, are you ?"
" No….of course not " she said with a disgusted look in her eyes .
' This bitch hates the people with supremacy…I could tell…she is lying '
Ezekiel nodded, already thinking of their next move. Then he said :" I hate bitches like you "
