Their cars pulled up to the house, with Reef's car going first. He didn't even feel the need to wait to ask. He had already thrown his coat on a chair and was standing by the stairs when Bella entered a few minutes later.
To Reef's eyes, Bella looked calm even though her face was deathly pale. She hung up her coat, then placed her bag nicely on the table. Then she turned her body to look at Reef. "Do you need an explanation?" she asked. Her voice trembled, sounding as fragile as paper. "We're not dating, if that's what you think. He called me as a friend and asked me to dinner."
"I never knew you were that close to him," Reef said sarcastically. "Didn't you say you only met him once at a charity event?"
"Then what am I supposed to do when he calls me and asks me to dinner? Do you want me to turn him down?"
"You don't know him, Bella! You welcome strangers' invitations so easily!"
