Chapter 17 - chapter 17

Later that evening

David tossed in bed as Mary laid in his arms. He opened his eyes and looked over at her, he brushed her hair of her face and kissed her forehead. As he held her closer in his arms his phone started ringing, he groaned as he turned to grab his phone. "Hello," he said, "yes sir, we've got the information on the guy sir." The guy over the phone said, "okay, I'll be over there in a minute. He said ending the call and slowly getting out of bed not trying to wake Mary.

A few minutes later Mary woke up to David getting ready. "Where you going?" She asked still half asleep, "I have to attend to something at work, it won't take long sweetheart." He told her as he fixed his tie. "It's getting late, can't that wait till tomorrow." She said, "don't worry baby, I'll be back in no time." He kissed her forehead and rushed out of the room.

In a dark warehouse a man is tied up on a chair blindfolded and his mouth covered. 6 fingers stand around and soon later a very tall and big figure walks in, "we've tried everything sir but his not budging." A man said, "Give me the bat," David demanded reaching his hand out. "I'll make this easier for you Mr. Sim, just tell me where smith is hiding. And I won't hurt you," he ripped his blindfolded off. "I don't care if you kill me, I'm not telling you anything!" The man exclaimed.

David smirk, he wore his gloves and took the bat back in his hands. First he hit the man on his legs, each strike echoing in the dimly lit warehouse. The atmosphere was tense as the man on the chair grunted in pain. The six figures watched in silence, knowing better than to interrupt David's interrogation methods.

After a few agonizing minutes, David paused, giving the beaten man a moment to catch his breath. "I don't think you understand, Mr. Sim. I'm not asking for your cooperation; I'm demanding it. Now, where is Smith?"

The man spat out blood, defiant. "Go to hell!"

David sighed, as if disappointed by the lack of cooperation. He resumed his assault, focusing on the man's torso. The room filled with the sickening sounds of impact and the muffled cries of pain.

He dropped the bat to the floor breathing heavily and demanded for a burning iron. "Seems you don't want to corroborate Mr. Sim, have it your way than." He said placing the burning Iron on his chest. Mr. Sim cried in pain, "Maybe this will drag your memory." He smirked placing the iron close to his face.

As the burning iron approached Mr. Sim's face, desperation and fear intensified in his eyes. The stench of burning flesh filled the air, and the dim light of the warehouse cast eerie shadows on the scene.

"You're running out of chances, Mr. Sim. Where is Smith hiding?" David's voice was cold, his determination unwavering. The six figures continued to watch in silence, their faces masked by shadows.

Mr. Sim, now visibly shaken, managed to gasp out, "Fine! Fine! He's... he's in an abandoned factory, east side of town. But you'll never get to him!"

David, satisfied with the information, withdrew the burning iron. He leaned in, his face inches from Mr. Sim's, and whispered, "You should've cooperated from the beginning. Now, you've become a liability."

Without another word, David gestured to the figures, signaling the end of the interrogation. They untied Mr. Sim, leaving him battered and broken on the chair. As David turned to leave, he looked back at the man who had just spilled valuable information.

"You made your choice, Mr. Sim. Just remember, actions have consequences."

Exiting the dark warehouse, David pondered the newfound lead on Smith's location.

That same night David got back home and found Mary watching tv in the living room. "Why are you still up?" He asked unbuttoning his suit, "I was waiting for you to come back," she replied. "You know it's not safe to be up this late at night while you're pregnant, come I'll take you to bed." He said grabbing her and carried her up to the room.

As David carefully carried Mary to their bedroom, the contrast between his recent actions in the dark warehouse and the tender moment with his wife weighed heavily on his conscience. He laid her down on the bed, gently tucking her in.

Mary, looking up at him with concern, asked, "What happened, David? You seem troubled."

David hesitated, contemplating whether to share the dark events of the night with Mary. Instead, he chose to offer a half-truth. "Work stuff, Mary. Nothing you need to worry about."

She reached out to touch his face, her eyes searching his for sincerity. "You can't keep shutting me out, especially now. We're in this together."

Sighing, David nodded, realizing the truth in her words. "I promise everything is fine, go to sleep now."

Mary nodded, sensing the gravity of his emotions. "Okay, but don't forget you have me by your side. We're a team."

"JACOBPATRICK HANLEY!" Stephanie yelled as she chased Jay around the house, "your father is about to be here in a few minutes and you're still not ready!" She exclaimed as she finally caught him. "You're bad boy!" She slapped his buttocks. After struggling to dress him there was a knock at the door, "there goes your father finally!" She sighed in relief. "She grabbed all his things and walked him to the door, as soon as she opened the door she handed Felix Jays stuff and slightly pushed Jay by the hand. "Take your child, you can keep him for the whole week. Matter fact take him for the month!" She demanded.

"What did you do to upset mommy?" Felix whispered to Jay Felix raised an eyebrow at Jay, who looked up at him with innocent eyes. "I didn't do anything," Jay mumbled, clutching his backpack tightly.

As they walked away from the house, Felix couldn't help but chuckle. "Your mom seems a bit stressed, huh? What happened?"

Jay sighed. "I spilled paint on her favorite rug. It was an accident, though."

Felix nodded understandingly. "Accidents happen, buddy. Let's just hope she calms down soon. In the meantime, we're going to have some fun. What do you say we grab some ice cream and then head to the park?"

Jay's eyes lit up with excitement. "Ice cream and the park? That sounds awesome!"

Stephanie looks down at the messy rug and sighs in frustration and tiredness, "never again." She said to herself as she started rolling up the rug, "Maybe one kid is enough for me, no more kids for me." She stated as she picked up the rug and dragged it outside.

As she reached the stairs case she groaned, "Why did I choose this life!" She cried as she look at the stairs going down. She groaned, and as she was going down the second stairs case she bumped into a man.

The guy looked up at her and smiled, "You need a hand?" He asked, "Yes please, it feels like I'm going to die right now." He stated. The guy chuckled as he grabbed the carpet out of her hands and took down as she followed him.

"Why are you throwing away this beautiful rug?" He asked as he placed it next to the trash, "You know kids and their little play," she replied. "Why didn't your husband help you carry this out then?" Stephanie cackled. "I'm not married, I'm a single mother." "I do co-parenting with my sons father, but aside from that I'm single like a Pringle." She told him.

The guy slightly smiled, "but anyways thank you sir, you were a really big help." She thanked him and walked back into the apartment building.
