''Kirk, why did you do that?'' Freen asked Kirk.
''Why, what did I do?'' Kirk asked Freen, confused by what Freen just said.
They are now out of the mansion.
"It's embarrassing," Freen frustratedly said to Kirk.
Kirk looked at her, confused.
''Lady, Rebecca might think I am a clout chaser and am using it to escape my responsibility towards her," Freen explained.
''Huh? She will not think that. And I do ask her permission before I take you out.'' Kirk clarified that Freen creased her brows.
''Oh, I forgot you don't understand English." Kirk said this in realization and chuckled.
''Are you mocking me?'' Kirk stopped and zip-zipped his mouth.
''Of course. Not," he said and grin.
Freen looked around, and when she saw that no one was around, she smirked.
Kirk noticed the change in Freen's aura and quickly got away from her, but she still managed to kick him on the buttocks, which made him stumble on the ground.
''AHH Freen stop.'' Kirk shouted when she got in to him and continued kicking, which he blocked with his arms and feet.
Freen's eyes were filled with rage and her movements were erratic, making it clear that she was not in control of herself. Kirk realized that something was seriously wrong and decided to try to calm her down before anyone got hurt.
Freen's eyes were filled with rage, and her movements were erratic, making it clear that she was not in control of herself. Kirk realized that something was seriously wrong and decided to try to calm her down before anyone got hurt.
He managed to hold her arms and looked at her in the eyes, which made her cry. Kirk didn't waste time and embraced her.
He understands that Freen is not good at showing her emotions, so he has to do it. This is the first time he did this to a person; he can't be this intimate with people because of his status in life, and Freen is way too far from where he is, but he can't have the courage to say this to Freen.
He can have wives, but this person he really wanted he can't have. He just watched her suffer, but he can manage to protect her that way.
If she only knew how hard it is for him to be with her .
If she only knew.
If she only knew.
A man in a royal guard suit appeared in his peripheral vision, and he immediately pushed Freen away from him. He glared at the guard, who quickly disappeared from the corners of the mansion.
''I'm sorry . It's just that you stink, hahahah.'' He tried to laugh it off so that Freen would not notice what he did there.
''It's okay, I know I stink . '' Freen said she was looking down.
Kirk scratched his neck, realizing he might have offended her with that excuse.
"It's a joke, Freen. " You smell great," he finally said.
"Thank you," Kirk looked at Freen upon hearing it. '
''For what?'' Kirk asked, looking forward where Freen was looking.
They are now sitting on the grass field outside the mansion.
''You know what I mean.'' Freen's short answer
Kirked smiled but also clenched his fist upon remembering that evil person who hurt his friend, Freen.
Friend . He thought and chuckled .
''What are you thinking?'' Kirk looked at Freen and shook his head.
"It's just that I feel so useless," he simply answered.
''You just saved me from that evil white man.'' Freen said to remind him of how helpful he was .
''Haha. yeah. '' Kirk chuckled again.
''Not all white people are like him, Freen," he assured her.
''Yeah. Others are like those who made my father and fellow men slaves and killed them after. Is that what you mean?'' Freen said this with rage in her eyes.
''But you like Lady Rebecca, though.'' He teases her, and Freen blushes.
''She's no difference. And who said I like her?'' Freen said, looking everywhere but Kirk.
''Hahaha..why are you blushing?'' Kirk teases her more. ''I'm not blushing!'' Freen retorts, crossing her arms. ''And it doesn't matter if I like Lady Rebecca or not. The fact remains that what the Romans did was cruel and inhumane.''
''They are not Romans, Freen. Hahaha, they are from the Kingdom of Great Britain, officially known as Great Britain, a sovereign country in western Europe. They are british ,Freen.'' kirk corrected her.
''Wow. How did you become so knowledgeable?'' Kirk laughed at Freen's antics, saying, "This woman is cutely innocent. Freen, not all white people are bad, and there are also people like us who are bad; you just haven't met them yet. They are all cruel people. But it changed my mind about them. Depending on the situation, people and circumstances force us to take the necessary actions, and we can't do anything to stop things from happening," Kirked said.
''I have a question , though.'' Kirk became serious while waiting for Freen's question.
''What is it?'' Kirk seriously asks.
''Where is Europe? And what is a sovereign country? Kirk slumped his shoulders and sighed, realizing that Freen's question was not related to the current discussion. "Europe is a continent located in the Northern Hemisphere, and a sovereign country is a nation that has full control over its own affairs without interference from other countries," Kirk explained patiently.
''Aaaah.. what does it mean?'' Freen ask again.
''What do you mean?'' Kirk asks, not understanding what Freen means.
''The Northern Hemisphere thing and contenent.'' Kirk smiled, and it hurts him that there are people who don't have the privilege of such knowledge.
"Content is a large landmass, like North America or Europe. And the Northern Hemisphere refers to the half of the Earth that is north of the equator,'' Kirk explains patiently. Freen nods in understanding, grateful for Kirk's explanation.
''You mean there are other places, countries, and kingdoms than ours?" Now I understand what you were saying earlier. You really are a scholar; you know a lot. If only I could go to school like you, I'd be amazing like you.'' Freen said she was happy about another piece of knowledge she learned from Kirk.
If only time came that all genders were allowed to learn and teach, all people might be so amazing smart and knowledgeable Kirk thought about how important it is to have access to education and information and how it can change the course of one's life. Kirk wished for a world where everyone could have equal opportunities to learn and grow, regardless of their background or location.
Not everyone, though, is as innocent as Freen. She just grew up serving them, and her world revolves around being a maid like her mother. In short, she lives a simple life, and he is jealous of her having a simple life , free from the complexities and stresses of the world. However, deep down, Freen yearns for something more—something that will give her life meaning beyond serving others. She dreams of exploring the world outside of her small village and discovering her true purpose in life.
After a brief period of silence, Kirk says, "But she does save you there, Freen." Freen gives a brief affirmative response.
Kirk calls Freen's attention by observing how she was holding onto the cloth's edge and saying, "You do care for her."
Freen looked at him in confusion.
"Then why did you fight the prime minister's son?"Kirk was informed of this following the investigation.
Nam and Mr. Lee explained everything.
That egoistic man thinks he can do anything he pleases in my place, not on my watch, Kirk thought to himself.
"I couldn't just stand by and watch him hurt Lady Rebecca; he needed to be taught a lesson," Freen says, sighing and running her hand through her hair. That made Kirk swallow a lump of saliva before nodding understandingly and saying, "I get it, but you have to be careful. We don't want any trouble with the government."
Now he can't look at Freen directly, as there is this effect that this woman gives him that sometimes makes him paralyzed. He admires Freen's bravery and determination, but he knows that sometimes it's better to play it safe. "Maybe we should wait and see how things develop before taking any action," he suggests cautiously. Freen nods in agreement, knowing that her friend has a point.
He again looked at Freen with admiration, saying, "If only you knew how amazing of a person you are, Freen.'' Again, he thought to himself.
And the wind blew, and Freen's hair flew, showing Freen's beautiful side profile that made Kirk fall for her more .
''She is beautiful," he whispered.
And what's more beautiful about it is that she is so oblivious to how beautiful she is. Kirk absentmindedly smiled while looking at Freen.
And he noticed Freen's bruise in her jaw; his brow creased .
''Did he hurt you? Before I came?'' He quickly asked, and his jaw clenched, seeing the bruises clearly.
But Freen just pull her face away from Kirk view and look away.
''It's unfair. '' Freen looked down, thinking how lowly she is and has no rights in anything at all.
''Nothing is fair in this world , Freen. '' Kirk sadly said. He is clenching his fist but he managed to act cool he knows Freen.
She doesn't want to pity from anybody.
''Why are you looking at me like that?'' Freen asks when she notices that Kirk has been staring at her and not moving at all.
Freen then leans closer to him, smirks, and smacks his forehead.
''Ouch. Freen!" he shouted in pain.
''What's wrong with you?'' Kirk asked, annoyed by what Freen did.
''I was just joking. Is everything okay? You seemed lost in thought. And you look stupid . Hahaha," Freen laughed.
Kirk shakes his head and responds, ''Sorry, I was just thinking about something. It's nothing important.''
''Hmm," said Freen, not believing him. "Well, if you ever want to talk about it, I'm here for you." Freen seriously said:
Kirk just smiled at her.
''You know what I think I need you to send back to Rebecca now?" Kirk said he got his buttocks clean and offered Freen his hand to help her get up.
But Freen just shook it off and stood on her own.
Kirk is absentmindedly watching her and smiling bitterly; she really can't see him as he sees her. He then put his hands behind him, one over another, and stepped back, giving her space.
Freen obliviously smiled at him too. She is confused by how Kirk is acting now but chooses to ignore it.
While they are walking back to Lady Rebecca's place, Kirk notices a certain pair of eyes he has seen follow them earlier. He was trying hard to act oblivious about it, but he couldn't.
As he simply turned his head in its direction, he saw how it tried so hard to hide beside the window; he even noticed how it fell, but he again tried his best not to laugh at the person.
Kirk then looked back in Freen's direction.
''What?'' Freen asks, confused.
Kirk smiled, then shook his head. "It's impossible,'' he said to himself, and he just dismissed the thought. And continued to walk with Freen, who was now walking behind him
''Why are you walking behind me?'' he asks.
''There are people, Kirk." Let's not forget that I am just a servant; I can't walk beside you.'' He then sighed and let her go.
They finally arrived at Lady Rebecca's room, but before they had a chance to knock, the door surprisingly opened.
''Oh-Eehem.- I was just about to get --J-just in time, it's a surprise we bumped into each other.'' Said Lady Rebecca, who was about to get out of the room.
Kirk can't contain his smirk and says,'' Yeah, that's because this is your room, and we are definitely coming here as originally planned.''
Lady Rebecca paused for a while, shocked with red cheeks at what Kirk just said. However, Freen felt a little pinch in her chest seeing the two talking, especially when she saw how Lady Rebecca reacted to what Kirk just said to her.
Are they flirting? In front of me? Freen thought.
Is this why Kirk was asking me if I liked Lady Rebecca earlier?
Is Kirk interested in Lady Rebecca?
But Lady Rebecca already has a fiancé.
No. He can't court her, and I won't allow it.
Freen decided to keep an eye on Kirk's behavior around Lady Rebecca and make sure he didn't cross any boundaries.
Kirk noticed the death stares of Freen while he and Lady Rebecca talked, as he was invited to have some tea with her, and quickly realized that Freen was not pleased with their interaction. Despite feeling uncomfortable, Kirk remained respectful and mindful of Freen's presence, knowing that he didn't want to cause any trouble. As they continued their conversation, Kirk made sure to keep a safe distance from Lady Rebecca and avoid any actions that could be perceived as inappropriate.
Freen was the one serving them, as she was Lady Rebecca's personal assistant.
When they finished their tea, Kirk asked Freen to accompany him outside, which Lady Rebecca again allowed.
''What's with the stares?'' Kirk was finally able to ask Freen when the perimeter was clear.
''What stares?' Freen acts innocent.
'' Freen, you cannot fool with that innocent looking face," Kirk said, grinning.
''What's with that grin, Lord Kirk?'' Freen asked, curious. ''I just find it amusing how you always act clueless when I catch you in the act,'' Kirk replied.
''What exactly do you mean by that?'' Freen answered back, feeling a bit defensive. Kirk leaned in and whispered, "I saw how you were killing me with those death glares, Freen." Freen's eyes widened in surprise before he let out a sheepish laugh.
''What do you think of Lady Rebecca?'' he asks, testing the waters. He might sound a little bit dilusional, but he never saw Freen act like that in their whole existence. He is being hopeful in the sense that maybe he has a chance in her heart.
''Do you like her?'' Kirked was taken aback by Freen's straight-forwardness.
''I am telling you , don't even think about flirting with her again in front of me or even when I am not looking, understand?'' Kirk put his hands up as a sign of surrender.
And Freen just left him there paralyzed in his position.
When Kirk regained consciousness, a smile crept across his lips. But then he realized he had forgotten to say goodbye, so he just let it be and decided to leave. Guards began to appear around his perimeter as he moved, and they stood nearby. Kirk boarded a chariot, and the driver presented him with a "Phra Kiao" or "Khomapastr." [These headdresses are traditionally worn by members of the royal family at important ceremonies and events. They are made of gold and adorned with precious gems, representing the monarchy's wealth and power.]
And the royal guards mounted their horses and left the area as soon as they saw it was clear of onlookers.
But never did they know that someone on top trees and bushes eyes were looking.
