The sounds of shuffling and cutting echoed in the silent cave, an azure glow refracted off the walls, and faded into the darkness beyond. Lit by the gentle light was a lizard person and a cloaked figure, huddled around a piece of burlap, working together to shape it into a tunic. The lizard person was thin, with glowing blue eyes and about 4 feet tall, with subtle yet powerful muscles, and a thick 1.5 foot long tail. The lizard person picked up the tunic and put it over its head, before turning to the cloaked figure and saying "wa wa" before turning to a little crystal device next to the man. The device glowed for a few seconds, and then spit out a sentence he could understand: "Thanks for helping me with this."
The man brought over the device he was working on in the corner. The device interpreted the noises that were put into it, and converted them into an understandable phrase. Ellie learned from the man that the reason he was down in the cave was to study the various properties of the crystals. There were apparently many types of crystals on this continent, and some contain powerful energy, and can be used as Mana storage, or to power devices. Many other types of crystals appeared useless, though, and the whole purpose of his trip this time was to identify if these were useable. In doing so, however, he had accidentally come across many species of lizard that had adapted to be able to harness the energy from these seemingly useless crystals. He began to experiment and find out if he could crack the secret behind the lizard's ability.
"So I helped you learn how to harness the energy?" Ellie said while looking at the tunic they had sewed in the mirror.
"Yes, but it seems these crystals aren't suitable for Mana storage, you can only take the energy out slowly, and not put any back in."
"What do I do now?" Ellie said, "It feels awkward to just leave, seeing as you've helped me so much."
"I could use an assistant to help me search the caves for more crystal deposits." The man extended a hand
"Deal" Ellie shook the man's hand, "I just realized I never asked for your name."
"People usually call me Garren, but to be honest, I was never given one as a kid, so I don't really have one."
"Garren is a nice name, my name's Ellie."
