Chapter 17 - Auction in Action

Looking at the blade, I understand why it's so important.

"FIGHT!"

"Wha-" I was too lost in my thoughts to ever realize what was going on, and before I knew it. The bald bastard charges me with the spear. "DIE!"

In a single motion, I raise the sword above my head and step to the side. Running next to me. I tense all the muscles in my waist and spin.

*Splurt* Cutting his unprotected back, he drops the spear and falls to the ground.

"That's.... it?" Someone in the crowd asks as they watch the man bleed out on the floor.

"What do you mean!? That was awesome!" Suddenly getting loud, they start to discuss our small exchange. Looking up to the VIP rooms, I see Raven stand up clapping.

He's soon followed by other people and I do the only thing that comes to mind. Flicking the blood of the sword, I sheath it and bow deeply.

Being signaled to come off the stage, I hear the auctioneer say. "Amazing! Young lad! Such a captivating performance, quick yet elegant! You can keep the sword as my thanks."

Dropping the dead man next to me, the auctioneer excuses himself. And runs to the podium with the still-liquid blood sticking to his shoes.

Shaking my head at the sheer craziness, I notice a book in line to be actioned off.

It's a brown leather book with a single red heart drawn on it with white text.

[Rules of heart]

Grabbing one of the storage workers, I lie that the auctioneer as a thanks allowed me to pick one small thing for the auction. "I see, that makes sense. Your fight was amazing. What would you like?"

Pointing at the book, he nods his head and tells me to come and get it after the auction.

Exiting backstage, I pump my fist in victory. Spotting a certain person leading on the wall, I smile. "Raven, you're fast." Smiling, he congratulates me on my victory.

"Thanks, and here. I think it belongs to you." Handing him the golden sword, he only looks at the scratched in name. "No, I'm not a swordsman. Alice wouldn't want someone like me to carry on the legacy of her swordsmanship.

"Raven, I'm no swordsman myself. I only know this one move besides just slashing. Laughing out loud, I saw his eyes swell up again. With tears in his eyes, he told me.

"Alice didn't know a single swordsmanship technique, she was more mage. But when it was needed, she would unsheath it, and swing it like her life would depend on it."

Putting the sword in my care, he signals me to follow him. "Who told you about Alice, Ken?"

Walking to the VIP rooms, Raven suddenly asks a hard question. Not saying anything, I decide to tell him the truth. "Man named Gabriel." Stopping in his tracks, Raven's eyes go wide.

"Saint Gabriel? The Paladin of Christ?!" Turning to him, I ask him if that's wrong.

"KEN! This is a criminal safe haven. Countless crime bosses are here! So why would a Paladin and a Saint at that be here?!" Realizing where he's getting at, we both head out in full sprint across the hall.

"To the kitchen! There's an old manhole!" Stopping in my tracks, I say.

"Understood! But first, we need to get something!" Looking at me in disbelief, he asks me what that thing is. "A book, I found it! My master's book! It's here!"

Stopping in his tracks he tells me that he's not gonna risk us getting into jail for a book!

"Suit yourself! I'm going back!" Turnign around, I sprint for the backstage. "God! Who did I wrong in my previous life?" Turning around, I see Raven sprinting after me."

Starting to leave the VIP room area we feel it.

*BOOM~!* The entire building shakes and the light flickers. Screams fill the empty halls. Gunshots resound in the distance, while many other small explosions go off.

"Oh no," Kicking down a VIP room's door, we see the backstage wall blown out, with countless armed men in tactical gear storming the building. "Shit! It's the real police!"

When I asked him what he meant, he told me that he hoped it would be a raid with volunteers.

"Well I don't see any green, so we're out of luck on that! I also don't see a way of getting us to the book!" Telling me not to state the obvious, I realize something.

This is the first time I saw Raven nervous. Even when a gun was pointed at his head he didn't seem fazed but now...

Tightening the grip on the railing, I can see ice spread from his arm around the whole room.

"Raven! We have to go!" Nodding his head, he lets go. Running out of the room, we quickly jump back in as the cops have made their way here already.

Peeking from behind the corner we see their commander holding a weird techno sword with four others hovering around him with the help of small jets. Signaling his men to push up, the swords fly at us.

"Shit! A hod sephirah! A Technopath is the last thing we needed!" Pulling out his gun, Raven shoots the whole mag hitting one of the flying swords only once.

"What the hell is a hod sephirah?!" Unsheathing the blade, I class with the flying sword.

"It's a guy that can control technology with his mind! Don't think too hard about it!" Firing his pistol, soo other criminals run into the hallway, firing off their guns they created enough chaos for the captain to try and charge them.

"Cover me!" I yell as I jump out of the room. "Stop! You can't fight that guy alone!"

"Trust me! I can!"
