Chapter 23 - The Trouble Doesn't Stop

Finally stopping, we take deep breaths. "That was funny." Seeing Ella shake her head in disapproval, I ask her what's wrong. "Everything, my two only friends are Junky and an outdated samurai."

Snickering at that, Raven turns to Ella. "Did the other clothes arrive?"

Raising my eyebrow, I ask Raven what he means. "You remember the tailor? I had him make more casual clothing for us as well. I placed the delivery address as this store."

Nodding my head, I look at Ella expectantly. "Yeah, it's here. Just a second." Getting up, she picks up two briefcases from behind the counter. Handing each of us one, I open mine.

It's beautiful. The clothes are still keeping my uniform style, but they seem not only tougher but also smoother.

"We're gonna use the toilet to change, we'll be right back."

Changing into new clothing, I feel like I'm a totally different person. Walking out of the stall, I check myself in the mirror. "I look almost identical, but I feel better than ever."

"Yeah, that's how it feels to have personally tailored clothes." Leaving the toilets, Ella claps her hands. "What a fashion show! What are you? La' Toilet Squad?"

Waving her remarks off, I hear Raven ask.

"Do you want to see something interesting today?" Not knowing what else to do, Raven smiles. "Ella, wanna come to? It should be a relaxing walk to the outskirts of the city."

Looking around the store, she just sighs. "Yeah, it's not like we get any customers on this day." Taking off her apron, she pumps her fist. "Let's go!" Turning to Raven, I ask him what is it we're going to see.

"Alice, I didn't have her body, but I have a place where we spent a lot of time." Hugging Raven, I tell him it must have been hard. "It was. I had to leave her body there, anyway."

Pushing me away, he walks out of the store. "let's go." Smiling, I walk after him, but Ella's tug on my sleeve causes me to slow down. "So you know, guess Raven is finally considering you a friend."

Rubbing the back of my head, I told her the truth. "He didn't tell me. I found someone who knew Raven and they told me. Raven got a little emotional about Alice, but other than that he was fine."

Nodding her head, we follow Raven.

The sun was high in the sky, one wouldn't even realize that it was winter. "Do you think there's gonna be snow this year?" Stepping in some mud, Raven replies. "Yes, snow is definitely gonna fall, and once it does we will be in great danger."

Raising my eyebrows, I ask him what he means. "Winter is the time when Wendigos start to roam around." Stopping in my track, I turn to Ella. "Wendigos are real?!"

"Yeah?... I mean, they started as folklore, but once people started working with magic, the belief in them made them real, so make sure not to develop a taste for human flesh. I guess?"

Stopping in my tracks, I watched them pass me. "Noted, never gonna eat human flesh. Not like I planned to, but now I'm gonna be extra careful."

Arriving at a large wall made out of apartment houses. I couldn't help but whistle in awe.

"So this is the living wall? I guess imagine something more fleshy under that name."

Walking to the gate, Raven chuckles. "Yeah, the name living wall doesn't make it justice. It's just houses built really close together." Being stopped by the guard, I feel my muscles tense up.

It's volunteers. Their iconic green shoulder pad with a halberd makes my blood boil. I just remember what happened to Lucy and Marie. They're monster passing as good guys.

"Good day, what seems to be the reason for leaving the city?" Volunteer asks.

"Nature seeing, there are some things I want to show to my friends." While Raven talks with the guards, I feel the ground shake. "Ella, do you feel it?"

Looking around, everything comes to a stop. just loud thuds could be heard before.

*CRASH* The gate is shattered. Protecting Ella from flying splinters. Turning to see what had happened, I spot a giant thin monstrosity. Instead of a head, it has a large deer skull, with a body built like a tree.

"You jinxed us! Why did you have to ask about Wendigos in the fuking winter!"

Hearing its glass screeching roar, I cover my ears. "Bring that beast down!" Seeing the volunteers run at it, I asked Raven. "How can we kill that thing?!"

"Do you not see the obvious skull?! Break that and it's dead!" Hearing Raven yell, I yell back.

"That thing is 2 stories tall! How the hell do you plan to break that?!" Getting pushed to the side, I see the volunteers run at it with their halberds. "Are they crazy or something?!"

"Bring it down!" Slashing at its legs they're just kicked away.

Looking around for another way, I see the stairs on the outside of the wall. "Raven! Cover me!" Getting a nod from him, I run up the stairs. Noticing me, the beast swings its arms at me.

Unsheathing my blade, I headed to the top of the stairs.

Punching crates into the wall, Raven freezes it to the wall. Jumping on one of its arms. I feel like I'm balancing on a thin line. Sprinting for its head, I lost my balance. "Damit it!"

Falling down, I stab my sword into its chest. Cutting it open, it manages to slow me down enough to hit the ground without injuring myself.

Thinking that it's over, I suddenly get kicked away. Flying into a lamp post, I fall to the ground face-first. "How is it nod dead? Its body is cut open!" Seeing it stare at me, it wobbles for me.

Seeing Ravne running around making something, I decide to act as bait. "Come at me you fucking Christmas tree! Do you think I'm scared?" Getting up, I feel my legs shake.

"Stay behind me!" Seeing one of the volunteers run in front of me, I yell at him to get out of the way. "Can't do that. I swore to be a city protector. As long as there are civilians I'm not going anywhere!"

Pointing its halberd at the Wendigo, I see other volunteers that not too long ago were slammed into the ground get up and... Sing?

"With green on my shoulder, I'm a justice fighter!"

Seeing Raven run between its legs, he joins them.

"Proud of the green on my shoulder! I'm the city's protector!"

Throwing a rope around its legs. Half of the volunteers dropped their weapons. Seeing them run to the rope. They all pull at the beast's legs. Roaring again, the beast stabs its hands into the ground.

Getting on my feet. I see Ella doing the same thing Raven did but on the other leg. I run over to help. Grabbing the rope, I join in on the chanting.

"I swore to protect, for I'm and laws outsider!" Pulling on the rope, the beast finally falls to the ground. Running at it, like there's no tomorrow I somehow find myself screaming alongside everyone while beating the beast.

And with a single strike from one of the volunteers the Skull is cracked.
