Chereads / Yellow Wolf / Chapter 8 - Messy Situation

Chapter 8 - Messy Situation

"Hey, I'm Raven. And you're probably wondering how I got here." Concrete walls and a single wall made of metal bars. "Yup, this is my home." Knocking at the metal, he smiles. "Look at the security, sturdy metal."

"Can you please shut up?! I get it! We're locked in a cell!" I yell. "Ken, I'm just trying to lift the mood up." Throwing my shoe at him, he easily caught it with one hand.

"Trying to lift the mood up?! Lucy is about to be executed! And you're here making jokes?!" Throwing me my shoe back, he asks me what's the plan then.

....[2 Hours Ago]....

It all started with a stupid challenge, a fight between me and Lucy. I originally didn't think too much about it, but when I hear Lucy's comment my blood boiled. Now standing opposite each other, I place the sword above my head.

"Start!" Running at me, Lucy smiles widely as her small K9s shine in the sunlight. Holding the sword high, I wait for her to get closer. Almost in range of my blade, I spin it and aim for the neck.

Like a wolf lunchign at it's prey, my blade flies at her neck. But her cat-like features aren't just for looks. Leaning under the sword, she jumps against a wall and practically flies at me. Getting kicked in the jaw, I fall to the ground. I try to roll away, but her knife stabs the ground next to my head.

"Meow, aren't I a bad cat?" With a clap, Raven proclaims Lucy's victory. "I'm gonna be honest, I didn't underestimate you, I overestimated Ken. I didn't think he would lack terrain awareness."

Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out a 50 Aquar bill and hands it to Lucy. "Here, as I promised." Looking at Raven surprised, she asks him if he really meant it.

"Lucy, I might not like your... appearance, but I'm a person who keeps their word, let it be to monsters, humans, or... you." Taking the bill, Lucy smiles and pockets it into her pocket.

"I'm gonna call you Uncle Raven from now on. Maybe then you will grow to stop hating us." Seeing a very distinct vein pop on his head, he places his very shaky hand on her head. "You better not."

Changing his tone, he stands above me. "Ken, do you mind explaining to me how you lost?" Offering me his hand, I get pulled to my feet. "I... I just lack-"

Getting hit over the back of my head, men with green shoulder pads surround us. I'm on the ground, barely understanding what's going on.

I see Raven raise his hands in surrender while telling a defensive Marie to stop, otherwise, someone might get hurt. Finally giving in we're all cuffed.

"It's a Depraved!" Knocking Marie to the ground, Lucy jumps to action but Raven stops her.

"Don't, you're just gonna make it worse." Looking at Raven in disbelief, she asks him if she should watch her friend suffer like this! Getting a nod from Raven, he's punched so hard that he falls to the ground.

"Agressor! Get her!" Beating her down, Marie tries to help lucy, but she's only left to struggle.

.....

"How did they come to the conclusion that they needed to kill Lucy?!" I yell. Seeing Raven still banging his finger against the metal bars, I yell. "You knew this would happen, didn't you?"

Getting a single nod from him, I jump to my feet and grab him by the collar. "You knew they would sentence Lucy to death?! Yet you agreed?!"

Brushing me off, he explains. "I didn't agree, I stayed neutral. I don't care what happens that's the difference, but I didn't expect them to write her off as a death sentence person."

Punching the wall, I ask him what we're supposed to do then?!

Smiling, he taps the bars of the cell. "Simple, we change the execution date to never." Turning back to the bars he starts his rhythmic tapping again. "How?! We don't have control over it!"

Shaking his head, he speaks. "The things you can't change in life are your birth and your past. So as long as air fills your lungs, you can do anything. Wanna proof?" Nodding my head, he points to the crystal on the wall.

"A Seph detector reacts to changes in the Sephs. So what happens when you cast reality change here?"

Not understanding where he's going with this, I tell him it will sound the alarm. Nodding his head, he smiles. "To what point? To what point can it detect a change? What if my change is so small it doesn't even detect it?"

Telling him that such a small change would amount to nothing, as it would be too small to count for anything, he clicks his tongue.

Showing me the door, he talks.

"Let's say you have a piggy bank. Each day you put in a coin." Tapping his finger against the bar he continues. "At first it's seems pointless, but day by day the bank fills until your small daily efforts pay off."

Not getting it, I look at the metal door. A piece of metal protruding from it. Grabbing it, Raven snaps it off. "See? It took a long time, but it's done. Don't let others tell you your small efforts are pointless. They're what makes the difference."

Getting up, I see him push the cell door open. "Now, do you want to save Lucy? or do you plan to cry here over your own incompetence?" Not saying a word, I take a deep breath and walk out of the cell.

*BEEP-BEEP* "Alert prisoners have broken out!"

Turning to Raven, I see him shrug. "Guess we're fighting our way out."

"Couldn't have we done that in the beginning?! Before the possibility of her execution even existed?!" Sighing, he explains. "If she wasn't stupid enough to punch pure blood in front of the Volunteers, she wouldn't be treated this way."

"You're a racist bastard Raven." Not minding my comment, he says. "I know, anyways, here." Throwing me a blade from the ice, he smiles. "Sorry, I don't know the precise measurements of your sword so I had to make it by the eye."

Making a spear for himself, we see the green shoulder pad volunteers with their halberds pointed at us.

"Let's have some fun."
