Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Hidden Card

Boruto was sorting books from one shelf to another. Unfortunately, he couldn't find a similar book that contained information about the Byakugan.

The closest book that alluded to the Byakugan was 'The Best Tracker Team Formation'. This book described the ideal situation for carrying out a tracking mission.

According to this book, the ideal tracking team should have people with keen eyes, sharp ears, and sensitive noses.

The keen eyes referred to the Byakugan ability of the Hyuga Clan which could see through deep into objects.

Sharp ears referred to the wide-scale and meticulous sweeping by the Aburame Clan's insect armies.

Meanwhile, a sensitive nose was the ability to smell and distinguish the target's scent from a long distance belonging to the Inuzuka Clan.

Of course, besides that ideal formation there were several other combinations with similar abilities. However, the foundation of the three criteria couldn't be changed.

This book was actually quite interesting for Boruto. Unfortunately, the information about the Byakugan was too simple for Boruto to draw conclusions about how to activate his new eye.

"Huh...." Boruto let out a disappointed sigh.

He glanced at Sarada that still reading the book he wanted. However, it looked like this girl was indeed not going to finish in a short time. He was more certain Sarada was deliberately playing a cheap trick to annoy him.

Then, he decided to use his hidden card. Boruto got up from the chair and walked towards the third floor hallway of the academy library.

Glancing at Boruto's movements, at first Sarada's thin lips slightly lifted, indicating that she had succeeded. Unfortunately, her forehead immediately wrinkled. She thought Boruto would get off and leave the library, but the direction of his steps was instead towards the third floor hallway.

"Wait, Boruto. Where are you going?" Sarada asked carefully for fear that the sound would be too loud.

Boruto turned around and answered flatly, "Since you seem to really like the book, I have no choice but to go up to the third floor."

"Third floor? You know Teacher Iruka only gave us permission to access the second floor. The third floor is for Chunin and has Anbu guarding the doorways." Sarada said in surprise.

Sarada was also one of the academy's students who had special access to the second floor of the academy's library. The reason was the same as Boruto, her achievements at the academy were too astonishing.

If this was a time when the war between Shinobi was still raging, the academy would have long ago graduated geniuses like Boruto and Sarada to quickly take their genin headbands and accept missions.

Fortunately, these were times of peace that did not require children to risk their lives on the battlefield. Peacetime genin generally debuted at the age of 14. Sarada and Boruto were both 10 years old, and they would most likely become genin at 12 years old.

"Of course I have my way. It's none of your business to meddle. Goodbye!" Boruto replied sarcastically. Seeing Sarada's reaction, he knew that this girl was deliberately playing a trick on him.

Sarada was not happy with that cynical answer. Then she thought of something and answered, "Humph, it's great to be the Hokage's son. You can go against the rules as much as you like."

"What did you say?" Boruto suddenly raised his voice. However, seeing many people staring, he immediately calmed down his emotions. "Yes, you're right. Therefore, you should also become Hokage so that your son can receive this special privilege in the future."

'Yes, it's a privilege to study and work harder than anyone else to keep your position from falling.' Boruto added in his heart.

Sarada was silent. At first, she too thought Boruto would be angry, but instead turned around to support her wish to become Hokage. She didn't know whether Boruto was sincere or not in his words. What was clear, the yellow boy immediately left without any intention of talking any longer.

Boruto walked along the staircase to the third floor. His gaze fell on the masked person at the end of the passage who was standing straight. It was the Anbu guarding access to the third floor.

Behind the white mask with animal prints, the Anbu narrowed his eyes. At first, he wasn't happy to see the brat who didn't know the rules. This kid wasn't even wearing a genin headband. But after a clearer obervation, he knew the identity of this boy and hesitated to speak.

"Young Master Boruto, I'm sorry. The third floor is only allowed for Chunin level Shinobi and above." The man said politely and slightly bowed respectfully.

If this had been any other brat, he would have brusquely said things like 'Brat, know your place and go!' or would make fun of cases like 'Little brat...just go home...'. Unfortunately, this was Young Master Boruto.

Even though he was an Anbu who only served the orders of the Hokage, this Boruto was the son of the person he served. He couldn't offend him for trivial matters that could be resolved by talking.

Boruto smiled broadly and bowed more respectfully. "This Uncle, what is Uncle's name?"

The Anbu hesitated before answering, "An Anbu doesn't carry their past name from when he became an Anbu. Young Master can address me as Uncle Sun Lion."

The corner of Boruto's mouth twitched slightly and wanted to laugh, but he held it in as hard as he could. Then, he replied more humbly. "Uncle Sun Lion, this little guy certainly knows the rules of the academy's library. This little guy just happens to have the Hokage Token that was given by the Hokage in person. According to the Hokage at that time, this token could allow the little guy to enter the third floor."

Seeing the tawny bronze colored token, the Anbu answered, "I see. According to the records, one of the Hokage's Bronze Tokens was given to someone. Turned out it was in the hands of Young Master Boruto. Please forgive me for not recognizing the owner of the token."

"It's okay, Uncle. I understand that the Anbu on guard also take turns. And I haven't used this token since I first got it a year ago. So the lack of information is understandable."

Boruto smiled, understanding the Anbu's mistake. After all, this wasn't entirely the fault of the Sun Lion Anbu. He received this bronze token as a gift for his ninth birthday.

At that time, Naruto told him to immediately register his name as the owner of the token to the library's registrar. However, Boruto, who hated his father, didn't obey. He was sure he didn't need that stinky father's help on a trivial matter. At most, he would level up to Chunin soon enough so there was no need to use a token to enter the third floor.

Who would have thought, the confidence at that time disappeared because of the problems he was currently facing. Even though he hated to use this hidden card, but it was better than directly asking stinky father for help.

"Thank you, Young Master Boruto for understanding. Let me check the token for a moment as a formality!" The Sun Lion Anbu spoke.

"Sure, Uncle Sun Lion. Please!"

After a moment of inspection, the Anbu nodded. "Okay. Come in, Young Master! I will return this token to you."

"Thank you, Uncle!" Boruto slightly bowed before entering the inner room.

Behind the mask, the Anbu smiled. He thought the son of a Hokage was indeed different from the boy his age. This Boruto kid knew how to go back and forth in conversation. If it had been another child in his position, perhaps they would have gotten arrogant and flaunted their parent's authority.

Little did he know that the reason Boruto didn't get cocky and arbitrary was because he understood his father's character. If he had really wronged someone else, his father would not think twice about punishing him.
