Come lunch time, I quickly ate my taco's and got to work on the stuff for the club. I entered the amounts in the ledger and double checked the drops for the days before going to the bank. Once I received back the change for the drawers at the bar, I headed back to do the liquor and supply orders. Thankfully, Scott and Simon had them already filled out and I just had to place the orders.
The sink had been fixed but Dass informed me that one of the rooms was having an issue now too. She shows me the room and sure enough the toilet is running constantly when the water is turned onto it. I run to the hardware store and swap out the flush system to fix it and then she shows me the shower head not spraying correctly. Annoyed that Scott or Simon couldn't fix this, I knock on the apartment door and Simon answers looking half dead.
"Hey, good looking. Don't get too close, me and Scott got the flu."
I step back from the door and shake my head, "Don't worry about it then. Get some rest."
I go to the chemical closet and get a bucket of mineral solvents for the shower head to soak in.
"Dass, I have the shower head soaking, so after work, I'll stop by and reattach it. I guess the guys are sick." I tell her checking out the time.
She serves a customer who sits at the bar, playing with their phone their drink and comes over to me. "Alright, thank you Brian. I appreciate you doing this. Should I put an out of order sign on the room then?"
I nod, "That would be a good idea. Do we need to make one?"
"I'm not sure, you want me to check the supply closet and if not you can grab me a sheet of paper and I'll make one real quick?" She asks, grabbing the keys to the supply closet.
"Sounds good, after you." I move to the side and let her leave the bar area and follow her back to the supply closet. When she comes out empty handed, I enter the office and print out a sign saying temporarily out of service. She tapes it up and hands the tape back to me before I lock up the office.
"Thank you, Brian. I would take care of the shower head, if I could later." She tells me as we walk back out to the bar.
"No worries, Dass. I've got to get back to work, I'll see you in a few hours." I wave by to her as she goes back to the customer at the bar, who's still playing on their phone. I exit and head back to work, taking care of my two patients at the hospital.
I hurry to the office and drop off what I need to and pick up some files to look at over the weekend, before sending a text to Sarina that I will be stopping at the club to finish the shower and then head home.
I'm in the middle of cleaning out the mineral solvents from the shower head when someone comes bursting through the rooms door.
"Hey Brian! Me and Big Daddy need your help out here!" Dass calls out to me as I'm rinsing my hands off.
"What's the matter?" I walk out and Dass has already left the room, but by the shouts I'm hearing from down the hall I know something has gotten out of hand.
I rush out of the room not knowing what to expect, but when I get to the bar, my jaw drops.
Big daddy is beating the hell out of someone while his partner Dr. Aman Patil sits up, eyes rolling against the wall with Dass trying to hold a towel up to his broken nose. I rush to Big Daddy and attempt to pull him off the guy.
"Hey! STOP! VERNON STOP!" I shout, putting his right arm in a hold to get him to stop.
"GET OFF ME BRIAN!" He shouts right back at me, "OR I WILL THROW YOU ACROSS THIS ROOM!"
"Look Big Daddy, I don't know what happened but the dude is unconscious you are going to go to jail if you continue this. Aman needs help too." I motion over to Aman where Dass is and Aman is still trying to come out of his daze.
Big Daddy shrugs me off his arm and I let go. He huffs a few times and points at the man on the ground, "Call the police and the ambulance or whatever for this punk ass. Aman caught him putting drugs in Dass's drink. When Aman called me over and confronted him, this punk ass bitch slammed him in the nose with brass knuckles. The little bitch then tried to come at me."
That's when I notice the selling along his jaw line and I run a hand through my hair, " Okay, I understand but you still can't beat the man to death."
"Then take care of it."
"Yeah, I'll take care of it."
Bloody fucking hell.
Turning to Dass, I instruct her, "Go get Jack and tell him we're closed for the night."
She nods shakily and runs off, as I look at the other patrons present. "Does anyone know this guy?"
I see a lot of heads shaking no, but a few nod hesitating.
"Alright, sorry people but I'm going to have to ask everyone who heard, knows him and saw anything other than the fight, stay. Everyone else, I'm sorry but you'll need to leave."
I reach for my phone but it's still in the room, so I go to the bars phone and make the call. The fire department, ambulance shows up not long before the cops. Thankfully Jack, Big Daddy and myself move quick enough to cover the some of the decor that most people would be unable to understand or would be disgusted by. The members who stayed behind knew not to speak about what went on here, as it's in the contracts we have everyone sign.
I'm speaking to the cops, explaining to them that I'm managing the club while the owner is on his honeymoon, and what went down from my perspective. They ask about cameras and I offer to get them a USB with the footage first thing tomorrow morning since I did not have the passwords to get that for them at this moment.
Aman is able to answer a few questions to the paramedics at this time and Big Daddy is right there next to him the whole time, explaining to the cop his job and what happened. The asshole who's coming to while the cops are searching him for identification, find the drugs and the brass knuckles are still on his hand. They also take Dass's drink and pull a smaller of it for testing.
I was worried that they were going to take Big daddy in for beating the shit out of this ass. However, the officers spoke to each other and every one's story was the same, that he was defending himself, they told him just not to leave town until they got the security footage.
Dass was crying talking to the cops, so when they were done, I walked over to check on her.
"Hey Dass, it's okay." I tell her, gripping her shoulder as she sobs into her hands.
"This all happened because they were protecting me though." She choked out in between her sobbing and sniffling.
One of the members who was still there grabbed a napkin and handed it to me as Aman was rolled out on a stretcher and Big daddy followed focusing on Aman's condition. I thank them and give the napkin to Dass so she can blow her nose as I talk to her.
"That is true, but they would have done that for any one in here. They'll be alright, that punk will not be coming back ever and when Lance gets back, he's going to make sure that dude doesn't see the out side of a jail cell for a very long time." I give her a hug and try to calm her down.
"Yes, but didn't you have somewhere to be tonight too?"
SHIT!
"Shit, I forgot about that." I start searching my pockets for my phone and not finding it, start searching for it and remember it's in the room I was working on. I run to go pick it up and see four missed calls with eight text messages.
Three calls are from Sarina, one is from her brothers number.
I don't even listen to the messages and immediately give Sarina a call. She doesn't pick up and it ends up going straight to voice mail.
"Hey babe, I'm really sorry. Some one tried to drug Dass and was caught and a fight broke out and the cops were here. It's been crazy." I look at the clock and see that its almost nine in the evening. "I'm done here for now. I'll head to the house if you don't call me back. I love you."
I hang up and check the messages. The first one that plays as I collect my stuff, which is from her brother asked me to call him. The next three are from Sarina each one is of her asking me what's going on and why am I not answering. The text messages keep asking what's going on, I'm not done yet, etc. The last one says she's coming to the club, sent just a few minutes prior to me calling her.
I make sure I have my stuff and go to leave, stopping at the bar to make sure Jack will help Dass close up everything else. He agrees that it's not a problem and I go to Dass to make one more check on her.
"Hey Dass, I've got to go. You going to be alright? Jack will help you close up and make sure you get to your car alright?" I ask her rubbing her arm as she wipes her face off as she calms down.
"Yes, I'll be fine. Thank you, Brian. I'm sorry this happened. I don't know why that guy would do that. He seemed like an okay guy. He'd been here since lunch and only had four drinks all day."
I sigh, "He probably thought you'd be getting off work soon and scoped you out all day. Was he new or something?"
She nods and her tears start a new, "Yeah he was, but if Aman had not caught him..." Her tears start a new and I wrap my arms around her to comfort her.
"Hey don't be like that. There's no reason for you to work yourself up over what could have happened. Alright? Now, show me that pretty smile and let me see that tough girl I know is in there."
She pulls back from me and gives me a forced smile when we both hear.
"What the fuck?!"
