Chereads / His maid-looking cutie / Chapter 44 - Clear Mind

Chapter 44 - Clear Mind

The roaring thunder outside was not enough to wake Milan from her deep slumber.

She wanted to hold unto her dreams, and wasn't ready to face reality yet.

she knew it would eat her up inside if she didn't confront Judith.

she didn't know when to, she wanted to avoid it until it disappeared into nothing.

she wanted to be in her bubble, pretending to be fine until she wasn't anymore.

it hurt to think about it, and her dreams were the only escape she had.

She knew that, so both her conscious and subconscious minds fell deeper into slumber.

the only place where she could have peace.

The next morning ,

Milan woke up refreshed. she checked the time and saw that she slept for an extra five hours. her body and mind really needed the rest.

She wasn't thinking about anything at all.

Her mind was like an empty field and she could function that way.

She took a shower and dressed up in a sleeveless "BRASIL" top and mom jeans.

she tied her hair into a bun and wore chunky gold earrings.

She wasn't going to sit around at home because the thoughts would flood her mind.

She wasn't over it, but she needed a distraction to stop her from trying to cry at every chance she got.

she took a denim jacket and her purse and went down for breakfast.

The butler was surprised seeing Milan.

She looked downcast and broken for the past few days and now she looked.... fine.

He doubted she was, he could tell it was a facade.

"Are you going out ma'am?" He asked.

"Yes, I just need to do something. I'll come back after" she replied, taking a seat at the table.

She was served brown rice and a tomato stew with greens at the side.

She ate as she usually did, finishing her food and left the house.

She took a taxi instead of using the car at her disposal because she really needed to be by herself.

"Where to ma'am?" The taxi driver asked as he began driving.

"Any amusement park please" she said in an uninterested tone.

The man could sense that the lady in the back seat wouldn't appreciate chit chat or small talk, so he kept his talk to himself, initially.

He wasn't focused on the road any longer. He kept thinking about how to strike conversation with the pretty lady behind him.

"Should I start with how her day's going? Compliment her? Play some music and ask if she likes it?" He thought and clicked his tongue when he couldn't decide.

He sighed and tried to focus, only to see that he almost collided with another vehicle.

He quickly pressed down on the brakes and turned the steering wheel all the way to the other side in an attempt to avoid hitting the other car.

Milan, in the back, grabbed on to the seat in an attempt to stop herself from falling forwards.

The taxi came to a halt with a screeching sound, followed by silence, so much silence.

The driver turned around suddenly, "ma'am are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"

Milan was too stunned by what just happened to speak so she shook her head.

"Oh thank goodness" he whispered to himself but she heard him.

He alighted from the taxi to check up on the other vehicle and Milan followed him.

She was concerned about them too.

Reaching the other car, the driver apologized profusely, bowing and all.

And Milan noticed that there were kids in the car, three of them.

She hated to see what could've happened to them if the driver wasn't able to avert the collision.

The youngest child from the car was looking outside, at the man who was driving them, possible her dad?

She stared at all of them, Milan included.

She looked tired, bored, uninterested?

But when her gave landed on Milan, she didn't stop staring.

Milan moved away from where she stood but the little girl's gaze followed her silhouette curiously.

Milan found it cute, so she waved at the little girl with a smile.

The girl visibly gasped and hid her face, making Milan giggle.

After some seconds, she showed her face again.

Milan waved once more with a brighter smile and the girl waved back.

In no time, the driver and the other man were able to sort everything out and the man got in the other car and drove away with his kids.

Milan went back to the taxi, as he request for going to the amusement part hadn't been accomplished yet.

The driver started the engine and this time didn't need anyone to tell him where his mind should be.

He focused on his job like the smallest of distractions would mean he would drop dead in a second.

...

Judith sat on her velvet sheets, checking her phone for new messages.

It turned out that Milan never returned her texts.

Did she find out? Judith thought but quickly discarded that thought.

After all, HOW would she have found out?

Exactly, there was no way.

" I should go see her....as a GOOD friend that I am" she chuckled and walked into her closet.

Looking for the fashion killer of the day.

She took her time applying all her scented products, doing her skincare and body care.

She stepped out of the bathroom aware that she smelled like flowers, fruits, candy, and cocoa, her favourite blended fragrances.

After a long while, she was dressed.

Smelling like a snack, and most definitely looking like one, Judith left her house on her way to Milan's.
