Chapter 49 - Evening fun time

Huh?!

"What do you mean Emma? I feel fine....honestly" Bentlee tried not to slur her words.

"Yeah sure couz" Darwin said sliding orange juice and water to her.

Bentlee's nostrils flared but she took the drinks and sipped them one by one.

She knew they were doing it so she would be able to go to work the next day.

...

"Do you want juice instead?" A man asked the lady sitting before him in a worried tone.

He knew she needed a drink, a strong one.

But he didn't want her to be wasted.

"No! I want beer and I will have some beer. You're not my dad" she irritatedly replied.

He stopped, he wanted her to relax and unwind.

The lady reached for a tall glass of beer and began drinking it.

Her Expression was all that was needed to be seen to know that she wasn't a fan.

"My goodness Bebe, just leave it. Let's get some wine instead".

Almost hurling out the contents of her stomach, the Lady, Bebe nodded like an agreeable child.

After a few minutes, a bottle of wine was placed before them by the waiter.

Tasting the wine, Bebe sighed.

This was what she was used to and she planned to stick to it.

The man sitting across from her was staring intently. She could feel his eyes on every inch of her, even to the way her fingertips circled her glass.

Bebe was squirming under his gaze when he spoke.

"How are you?"

She paused and looked up at him.

How was she? ... She didn't think about it, she hadn't, not yet.

"I am...." Her voice came out weaker than intended. She had no words to complete her statement.

She didn't know how she was. She knew she wasn't sad but she didn't know if she was happy either.

"I don't know" she finally said after some minutes.

The man nodded, understanding her without asking more.

Kai noticed that his question may have dampened her mood even if only slightly.

He decided to change the subject to one completely far from it.

"We leave in 3 days, are you excited?"he watched her Expression change from blank to enthusiastic.

She nodded with a big smile.

"I know it's for work but whatever, a trip has been long awaited for me" she said settling deeper into her seat.

Silence.....

Kai didn't mind the silence, he never has.

He loved to sit and quietly observe the lady before him.

It was a habit he had from childhood to randomly observe people, but ever since he met Bebe, he never wanted to observe anyone else.

She was the perfect muse for any artist.

She was perfection personified.

He was unaware of how intense his gaze was and how the lady on the receiving end was squirming uncontrollably.

He never thought that they would ever be in a random bar just "chilling out" after her marriage three years ago.

After she married that bastard, he knew the friendship between them wouldn't last so long.

It was on the verge of becoming non-existent when the stupid prick became violent the first time.

Bebe was too kind and forgiving. She accepted that it was her fault for being disrespectful towards him.

Kai hated that she felt the need to accept the pain just to make peace reign. And the peace was always temporary.

Unaware of his demeanor, Kai was fuming inwardly, his anger resurfacing.

Bebe knew what was on his mind and said "I'm not with him anymore you know, thanks to you and my cousin... Just leave it".

Just wanting to push things away and free up her mind was something she excelled at.

Another trait she possessed, thought Kai.

Listening to her, he stopped his line of thought and focused on her.

Bebe adjusted her chair towards the left side as she saw the waiter approaching.

He was carrying a large tray with many foods and drinks.

It all seemed safe enough until a lady from a table before theirs stood up abruptly.

Her sudden rising alarmed the waiter and made him lose balance.

He held tightly unto the tray as he couldn't expect the lady's actions.

She turned to her side, facing him but her head was down.

She was walking like she wasn't in the same dimension as they were in.

She was most definitely drunk.

The waiter walked trying to avoid a collision and was thankfully saved when a larger man from the table where the lady stood from grabbed her in a protective but gentle manner.

Just firm enough for her to not move too much, but not hard enough to hurt her in any way.

Bebe watched the whole scene with shining eyes.

She loved how the other man looked like a knight in shining armor.

The lady was now in his lap and Bebe stared like she was watching a drama series on her television when she noticed the resemblance.

The man, the girl in his lap and the lady on the other seat all looked alike.

The man and the other lady more so, but the girl looked like them.

Were they a family? Bebe's eyes widened momentarily.

She felt sorry for thinking he was the knight in shining armor.

Her gaze went back to the girl in his lap, she looked familiar for some reason but she couldn't remember where she had seen her.

"I think we should go home Dee" the other lady spoke to the man.

He nodded and nudged the girl in his lap, "Hey Lee, were going home".

"Ughweredee?" She mumbled making everyone who heard it smile or laugh, including Bebe.

"Yes ughweredee. Up you stand" the man helped her stand on her feet.

The other lady paid the bills and grabbed two purses, one Bebe assumed to be the drunk girls purse.

"Bebe"

"Bebe"

"Bebe"

Kai kept calling out to her but it seemed her mind was elsewhere.

And as if just on queue, he called out without thinking,

"Earth to my Bebe" and her head snapped in his direction so fast.
