Chapter 20 - More work and Reconciliation

I showered and dressed in dark green trousers and a tucked-in short-sleeved grey blouse with nude low heels and a grey coat, as it would still be chilly today. I wore a simple silver chain and small hoop earrings to match. My outfits were always on point, making a statement. I checked myself in the mirror and praised myself while taking an umbrella before closing the door.

I couldn't make breakfast so I settled for oats with sliced bananas, blueberries and strawberries. I wasn't a fan, but I didn't have a choice today.

I left my house and was on my way to the bus stop.

As I predicted, it was chilly, and windy too.

Everyone was wearing cardigans, coats, sweaters, jackets and blankets. It seemed that people were prepared for anything today.

I arrived at Del Loona Experience to see that everyone was covered up, but I seemed to be part of the ten percent that thought about style as well.

Work wouldn't be work, it would be researching and presenting till they are satisfied.

The third floor was unusually busy today. "What's going on?" I asked a coworker whose name I had forgotten.

"There has been a change of plans and Miller Corporation PLC representatives would be coming a day earlier than agreed on. So the mini presentation holds today by 10", he replied.

"Huh?" What the actual fuck is going on....

A few hours after I had settled on my desk, Stefani came in to call members of group one, my group.

I followed with a little book in my hand.

"You have all heard about the change of plans, so we'll do the mini presentation now. Who has already researched?" She asked. And only three hands were up, mine and two others.

"What? Just three? How lazy" she said.

"Let's begin" and the presentation began.

When it was my turn, I hardly even opened the book because my mind, like a sponge, had absorbed all the information it wanted to on the given topic.

From what I saw, the other two performed well too, I didn't really care because I most likely wouldn't be picked. This was just for fun.

After a few minutes, the top two were picked, Maxwell and Bentlee. Bentlee? I'm Bentlee, is there someone else with my name? What?

"Bentlee and Maxwell, we'll have a meeting right now to begin prepping. No objections or arguments, so let's begin", she said as if sensing that I didn't want to be a part of the presentation.

"Whether you want to do it or not is irrelevant, we'll do what's best for the company" she finished, making me understand that there was no escape.

I sighed and accepted my fate since our topic interested me a bit.

The meeting wasn't as boring as I expected. It didn't go quickly like I wanted, and by 12 we went on a break. I was so exhausted, I wanted to fall down and become unconscious till after the presentation.

I went to the cafeteria to buy bread rolls, they tasted so good.

In the cafeteria, I sat on an empty table because I wanted to eat alone and relax.

"Hey Bee", A familiar voice said. It was Milan, her nickname for me was Bee, I couldn't object when she gave it to me cause I was exhausted that day

"Hey", I said a bit relieved that it was her and not some random person that would be a hassle.

"How's the presentation going?" She asked rubbing my shoulder.

"It's going well.... I'm so tired, but the job has to be done", I said sighing.

"You'll be fine" she said encouragingly, making me smile.

Someone's shoes caught my attention and I shifted my attention from Milan to the ground. "Nice shoes", I thought before looking upwards to see who owned them. Lo and behold, Kevin walked majestically into the cafeteria. And as if sensing my stare, he turned towards me. Our eyes met briefly and I shifted my attention back to Milan. He was the one who didn't want to interact with me anymore, so I was just respecting his wishes .

And Milan noticing the little exchange asked, "weren't you guys close?"

"Yeah we were", I answered.

"Then what happened?" She asked, a bit concerned.

"I don't know, just happened", I replied.

She knew not to ask more because she wouldn't get the answers she wanted.

I checked my watch and realised that I had only two minutes left to return to work.

"I've got to go, more work, I'll see you later", I said to Milan and she waved childishly. I took my purse and was out of the cafeteria, heading to the main area on the third floor.

We got back to work and continued preparing for the presentation.

After being corrected by Stefani over a million times, I and Maxwell were finally making progress. We were advised on what important parts of the topic to research on and how organisation of points was the key to impressing the audience.

I was actually enjoying the conversations and pointers that were being given.

Time went by quickly once I started getting into the work, and the working day was soon over.

Despite being tired, knowing that I had gone a full working day for time time without being yelled at by Mr Richard was amazing. I had more work to do which was more exhausting, but the fact that I wasn't insulted or overworked today made me look forward to tomorrow.

Since the weather was warmer now than in the morning, my coat hung stylishly on my arm. And I headed home with a bright smile on my face.

.....

I had a few hours to rest before working, so I decided to think about what I pushed aside earlier today, the dream. Why would I imagine something like that? I'm sure he doesn't act like that in real life. Wait! Why did I dream of HIM??! I totally forgot that he existed for a while. So why now?? Ugh .....maybe I dreamt of him because he's thinking about me? No no no! Why though? There's legit no reason to. You know what, dreams are a mixture of imagination, real life and what you ate for dinner. I'm sure the cinnamon rolls and pasta had a part to play in it. That's all there is to it. Yeah, that's all...

Anyways, since I was done thinking about that and have come to a reasonable conclusion, I have to eat, shower and work on the presentation, again. Ugh.

I wasn't in the mood to cook, so I found some leftovers in the fridge, microwaved it and ate.

After my shower, I dressed in silk nightwear and began my work.

Turns out the topic was way more interesting than it seemed, and I was a bit excited.

.......

"What do you want?" Paleah said blankly into her phone to the person on the other line.

"I want to come over and apologise for the other day", Daphne replied.

There was no response from Paleah.

"Come on Leah. I'm close by", she added.

"Fine", Paleah said before ending the call.

Daphne stared at her phone, shocked that Paleah hung up on her

"It's the audacity she has for me. She hung up on me? She's lucky her brother is dropdead gorgeous because I would've dropped her ass a long time ago. She's Close to him, so I'll have to get close to her. Ugh. I hate apologising to someone who doesn't deserve it. After all, I was saying the truth that day", Daphne said to herself in her car.

She parked her car in front of the mansion, stepping out looking bougie with her sunglasses.

She walked in and went to find Paleah. After searching for a few minutes, see found her beside the pool.

"Hey", Daphne greeted.

"Hmmm" was the only response she got.

"I know you might be angry at me because of what I said to you. I thought you'd see it as a joke, just as I saw it. I went too far, and I'm sorry that I hurt your feelings", she said beginning and ending the apology fully.

There was no response only a look. Paleah stared at her for what seemed like forever before responding.

"I forgive you, but don't try me ever again. I'm not as calm as I used to be and I'll deck you if you push me too far. Okay?" Paleah said calmly.

"Yeah, I'll control my speech and think before I speak", Daphne said, secretly adding "bitch" inwardly.

"Well, I'm kinda hungry, can we eat dinner together?" Daphne asked as if they were best friends forever again.

"Sure..... Lasagna sound good?" Paleah replied.

"Yup" Daphne said with a childish grin.
