Chapter 2 - It's Mark!

Marsai and Martins laid down on the field in the night looking up at the sky.

"Martins, you are not going to leave me right?" Marsai smiled at Martins.

Martins turned, giving her a reassuring smile. Marsai felt butterflies in her tummy. Moments with Martins is the only thing that matters to her.

"Marsai, what are your future plans, what do you want to be in the future?" Martins asked.

"Me? I have zero plans for the future unlike you but I think I have one" she gave Martins a mischievous smile.

"What is that?" Martins adjusted himself close to her eager to know.

"Since I'm dumb and too lazy to read, I can't go to the university anyway. I just want to be your wife and have babies with you" Marsai laughed.

Martins looked at her confused. He started laughing too.

That was exactly six years ago. One of the memories Marsai has with Martins that she'll never forget despite losing her memories temporarily.

Marsai received a call from Jenny as she walked down the school path. She answered the call.

"Bitchhhh!" Jenny shouted through the phone. It was so loud that Marsai removed the phone from her ears.

"What's up?" Marsai asked.

"I'm outside your school. I can see you. Can you see me?"

"No, I can't," Marsai looked around.

Marsai looked outside the gate. Jenny waved at her continuously.

"I think, I can see you now" Marsai ended the call.

Marsai walked up to Jenny.

Jenny is Marsai's childhood friend. She knows almost everything about Marsai. Jenny is short, she has a dazzling brown skin that every black girl envied including her long curly hairs, sparkling black eyes and pointed nose. She's very beautiful.

Despite being Marsai's friend since childhood, she still felt distant from Marsai after the tragic incident.

"You look very beautiful today" Marsai smiled at her.

Marsai is always different whenever she's with Jenny. Probably, she doesn't want Jenny to worry about her.

"Ohh, come on. I'm tired of hearing that. I've always been pretty, and everyone knows that." Jenny gushed.

Marsai chuckled.

"Let's go to the cafeteria over there, I have good news for you" Jenny smiled.

"That's so you, you can never have bad news to tell."

Jenny dragged Marsai along with her.

"You don't have to drag me!" Marsai shouted.

"I have to." They both laughed.

They arrived at the cafeteria. The cafeteria is very popular because they have the best pizza in town. That is Jenny's favourite spot.

"What would you like to have?" the Waiter asked, bringing out her notepad and pen.

"Pizaaa!!!!" Jenny shouted.

The waiter and Marsai laughed.

"You? The Waiter turned to Marsai.

"Whatever she wants," Marsai replied.

"Marsai, don't be like that. Ask for whatever you want. Bills on me!" Jenny shouted.

"No, I'm okay with whatever you want" Marsai assured Jenny.

"Whatever, with an apple drink too." Jenny turned to the waiter.

The waiter nodded her head and left.

"You're so boring" Jenny said to Marsai.

"I know" Marsai sighed.

"So, how's your new school going?" Jenny asked.

The waiter brought their order, placed it on the table and left at once.

"Fine, I guess. Let's talk about you first"Marsai insisted

"What's there to talk about me? I'm just frustrated. Life after college"Jenny sighed.

"At least, you were able to finish college. Six years went so fast."Marsai sipped her drink.

"Stop bringing back old memories. Let bygones be bygone"Jenny sighed.

"Can bygone really be bygone?"Marsai laughed.

"Here we go again, are you trying to tell me you still love Martins or have you been able to find a proof that you're innocent or even a witness?"

Marsai kept silent, she didn't utter a word.

"Talking about Martins, have you met him recently?"

Marsai recognized Martins' voice when they were in class. But, that wasn't Martins. Their voices sounded similar and they looked very alike but that was Martins' twin brother.

"You're not saying anything"Jenny said.

Marsai looked at her.

"Actually, we have a new teacher. I really thought that was Martins but it wasn't him but-

"Are you hallucinating now, how will you mistake someone for Martins?"Jenny cut in sharply.

"Can you let me finish talking?"Marsai glared at her.

"Here you come with that your other personality that I dislike. Okay, go on"Jenny sighed.

"It turned out to be martins' twin brother but I found it weird that his name is Martins. His real name is Mark. I don't even know why"Marsai sighed.

"The reason must be best known to him. Did you ask him about Martins? Jenny asked eagerly.

"Not really, he recognized me at first sight and even called my name. He actually introduced me as his old friend to the class. We couldn't talk for a while because the girls were disturbing him, so we set up a date to meet."Marsai explained.

"That's actually nice. Besides their was a love triangle between him, you and Martins"Jenny laughed.

"I don't know what you're talking about, what's there really a love triangle between the three of us?"Marsai laughed.

"Yes there was!"Jenny shouted.

"….And are you going to pretend like you didn't have a hard crush on Mark?."Marsai laughed.

"Mark, that annoying ugly dude. I don't like him and I never did"Jenny sipped her drink.

Marsai laughed loudly.

"It's been really long I saw you laugh like this. But, can you really be able to forgive Martins?"Jenny asked genuinely.

Marsai looked out of the window as two of her fellow students passed.

"Why is Jenny hanging out with a murderer?"One of the girls asked glaring at Marsai.

Jenny is actually very popular. Her Dad is a billionaire and a very popular politician. She has been given many opportunities to study abroad which Marsai encouraged her to accept but she can't leave Marsai alone in the country as she believed that she's the only friend Marsai has.

"Looks like I should be taking my leave now before someone gets into trouble because of me" Marsai said taking her leave.

"Wait…"Jenny beckoned on her.

"I have to sell periwinkles for my grandma today, so bye"Marsai waved at her.

"She sells periwinkles?"The girls laughed.

Marsai ignored them.

"You guys are acting like you're better than her. At least she doesn't depend on her parents like you guys!"Jenny scolded them.

"Does she have parents? The dead one or the one that denied her?"The girls burst out laughing.

Jenny gritted her teeth. She felt like beating the girls but she can't do that to avoid getting scolded by her parents.

Marsai walked down the road kicking the dried leaves.

She saw an old woman struggling to carry her loads. Marsai ran towards her and helped her.

"Thank you my-

The old woman looked up at Marsai.

"Are you not the child murderer?"The old woman asked her.

Marsai stood still looking at her without saying a word.

Tears rolled down Marsai's cheeks.

"Well, you look too innocent for someone who actually killed someone."The old woman said walking out.

Marsai wiped off her tears and continued walking home.

Grandma Nini started smiling immediately when she saw Marsai. She hugged her tightly.

"How was school today?"Grandma Nini asked her eagerly.

"It was very nice"Marsai replied.

Grandma Nini smiled looking at her face.

"Do you know that you remind me of my daughter, you look exactly like her"Grandma Nini said, touching Marsai's face.

"You always say that every-time, I'm not leaving you. Okay?"Marsai smiled.

Grandma Nini's eyes filled with tears.

"This is not time to create a melancholic atmosphere, why don't we eat first"

"Sure" Grandma Nini said, sitting down.

They had their evening meals together. Marsai went to sell periwinkles in the market as usual.

Coming back home, Marsai relaxed on her bed.

She received a notification. It's a reminder for her date with Mark.

She walked up to her wardrobe, searching for a cloth to wear for the next day because it's going to be a long night with him.
