Onyx was busy helping Larisa pick up a dress for the soirée even though Larisa was clearly distracted by her thoughts.
She was dumbfounded with the recent findings behind her back whether it was true or not, it definitely had some meaning judging by their reactions at breakfast when Valerie mentioned the goddess. She wanted to take her mind off it but her anger and curiousness got the better of her.
"Are you OK?" She heard Onyx voice dragged her back into reality.
"Sorry, I'm just.." She pressed her lips in a thin line.
"Valerie just said that to probably upset you, you know how jealous of you she is so don't mind her words." Onyx said as if she knew exactly the reason she was lost in thought.
"But you all were aware of it." Larisa said.
"It was just a thought, nothing more." Onyx said with a bright smile garnished on her face.
"Ok, I guess I'm just over thinking things." Larisa said with a small smile on her face. Onyx raised a black beautiful lacy dress to her view.
"Do you like it? We always wear black to a soirée, its kind of like a tradition." Onyx said as she chuckled lightly.
"Its nice."
.....
The maids and Butlers prepared the soirée for the evening and the pure breeds vampire guests started trooping in one by one, they were less than twenty in total since it was a small social gathering. There was a live musical playing at one side of the hall.
Onyx walked in along with Larisa, they both looked stunning in their black outfit but everyone's eyes laid on Larisa, the mate of the devil's son, they had heard about her and they all wanted to see what was so unique about Lothaire's mate.
Most of the female vampires were jealous to see Lothaire's mate, she was too gorgeous for a mere human, her physical features weren't anything unique but her beauty radiated.
The vampires gathered around her like she was a tasty meal, making Larisa feel queasy and really uncomfortable. She couldn't take in all the pale faces and gorgeous beauties that hovered around her.
Onyx seemed to be enjoying herself a lot as she conversed with her fellow vampires not realising how uncomfortable Larisa was.
"Whats your name?" "Where do you live?" "How did you meet Lothaire?" With all the questions been thrown at her, she wanted to curl up and hide under the carpet until she heard a familiar voice.
"Stop pestering her." Lothaire walked into the gathering, his presence dominating over everyone's and the chatters immediately died down. He took Larisa's hand in his and they moved to a more quiet area.
"Thanks, it was really uncomfortable." She said as they sat down.
"Why did you force yourself to come then, because of Onyx?" He asked, his expression was serious, unlike the teasing facial expression or smirk usually glued on his face, she knew he was avoiding her to not hurt her, but still she was mad at him for a lot of things, she was mad at him for keeping secrets from her that only her was unaware of but everyone else knew which made her even more angrier.
She wanted to confront him right then to tell her everything when a gorgeous pale faced, tall female vampire walked towards them.
She had long wavy black hair with dark features, she looked like a seductive temptress as her gaze fell on Lothaire and Larisa became highly uncomfortable, she wondered if Lothaire was affected by the woman's beauty in any way but when she looked at him, his gaze was as hard as a rock as he stared at the woman.
"Its been quite a long time Lothaire." The woman's voice was seductive as well but Lothaire just stared at her as if she spoke in another language. The woman had a grin on her face as she walked closer.
"You must be the one, how jealous I am of you." She said as she sat down opposite them without being invited. Larisa just stared at her without saying a word to the insanely beautiful woman.
"it's quite boring to listen to you." Lothaire said with a bored expression as he crossed his long leg over the other.
"But I wasn't quite boring in your bed was I?" Larisa almost choked on hearing her words, even though clearly their relationship was in the past, she couldn't help but feel the sting of jealousy on her skin that Lothaire had been involved with this seductively gorgeous lady.
Her stomach churned and she couldn't help it but her face twisted in anger, as if she was angry with him for getting involved with other women.
Lothaire's jaw ticked in anger as he knew Gazelle was trying to intimidate his mate. He saw Larisa's expression and he couldn't help but get more angry.
"If I were you, I'd keep that mouth shut cause the next word that comes out of your mouth will cost your tongue." Lothaire threatened as his deadly gaze locked on her and his threats were enough to let her understand that he'd rip off her tongue without batting an eyelid, so without another word, she walked away.
"You shouldn't be jealous, it was in the past." He said but she didn't reply, obviously angry at him, she averted her gaze from him to the classical music playing.
Lothaire didn't say anymore, he knew she was upset but it was kind of a good thing to help harden his resolve to avoid touching her.
The time for dinner commenced as the guests all sat on around the round table but no meal was placed on it, instead everyone was given a wine cup filled with warm blood except Larisa of course who was served tea and some dessert. She didn't even have the appetite to eat, everything was just overwhelming and her appetite got affected.
Everyone either talked about their business or politics, there wasn't really much of a difference from rich humans, the only difference was that they drank blood.
Larisa fiddled her teacup in her hands with no plan of drinking it.
"Won't you drink it?" She heard gazelle's voice from across the table and Lothaire shifted his attention to her.
"Since when did you start caring about who drank their tea or not?" Lothaire asked rhetorically and gazelle gave an unsure laugh.
Now the air was getting tense and Larisa knew that something was wrong especially when Lothaire immediately questioned her as if he had been waiting for her to say something.
"Bring me the maid who served Larisa's tea." Lothaire commanded and a butler went out of sight immediately to summon the maid. A maid followed behind the butler and stood in front of Lothaire with slightly bowed head.
She was clearly scared but anyone would think it was a natural thing for her to be scared because he was Lothaire, the devil's son but he knew better.
"You poisoned the tea." The maid's eyes widened in horror and everyone seated there weren't surprised that he knew when they all had no idea but they were surprised that the maid was bold enough to poison Lothaire's mate.
The maid shuddered in fear, he wasn't asking a question, he clearly made a statement because he knew and he wasn't wrong.
Her lips trembled as she shivered in fear, he could read her mind to find out the person who had ordered her to poison Larisa but the person made their self anonymous but he already knew who the person was.
"Drink the tea." He commanded and Larisa's eyes widened, she was speechless on what was happening right then and she wondered why the maid would poison her tea and wondered even more how on earth Lothaire knew her tea was poisoned.
The maid stood there frozen with legs glued to the ground as her blood ran cold with fear.
"Didn't I just tell you to do something?" Lothaire's voice was cold and spine chilling, his golden eyes gleamed with darkness but still calm which made it even more dangerous.
"I'd have given you a slow and painful death but I'm been merciful." He said calmly but his voice held a bone chilling tone to it, the maid only sobbed because she knew she was going to die.
"Drink. The. Tea." He ordered and it was his last warning. The maid hurriedly took hold of the tea with shaking hands while Larisa looked at her wide eyed as she gulped down the contents with teary eyes.
Everyone watched with curiosity for the girl to drop dead and a few seconds later, she groaned as she held her stomach in pain and started vomiting blood, which made Larisa almost jump from her seat as her hands flew to her mouth, someone had tried to kill her, the thought that someone had tried to kill her made her skin crawl.
The maid's skin turned black as she fell limp on the floor and seized to move, she was dead and horror was written all over Larisa's face as she looked at the dead girl.
Lothaire turned his attention to gazelle who tried to make her facial expression as neutral as possible.
"I think your jealousy's gotten the best of you but its the most foolish decision you've ever made." Lothaire said obviously talking to her while everyone whispered in hushed tones knowing what Lothaire was getting to.
Gazelle fluttered her lashes uncontrollably like she had been struck a thousand times by lightning, her expression already gave her out, she knew Lothaire had found out and there was nothing she could do about it.
"I..I.." She stammered, her face became even paler than before.
"You tried to poison my mate."
