The axe head kept floating over Barney's hand for the next ten seconds. Lucas at this point had stopped his smiling and started looking at the thing floating with seriousness.
The axe head was all this time shivering in the air and Barney's face looked very constipated showing how much control, pressure, or concentration it was taking to keep the axe head up in the air.
Finally, after another five seconds, the axe head dropped on his hand again while the poor guy massaged his head with a frown.
"Did your mana get exhausted?" Lucas asked with curiosity as the things that bothered him looked like a headache yet Sarah had a totally different reaction to mana exhaustion.
"...NO... I still have four points of mana left. It's just that every time I use this fucking skill-"
"Language!" John shouted from near.
"Ah yes yes, this skill needs a lot of control and it makes my head hurt the more time passes."
Barney looked back at Lucas and was confused to see the expression on his face.
"What? Just say it." Barney exclaimed.
"That's it? You call this useless? Do you know how many possibilities there are of how to use the skill and you are not using it just because you are not used to it or whatever? That's weak talk." Lucas said with a frown.
'He has such a great opportunity and he gives it up just because of a headache? Fuckin bitch!' Lucas shouted inwardly yet tried not to show his annoyance on the face.
"What possibilities are you talking about, transporting those logs here and there? that's impossible because of their size."
"That was one of the things I was going to advise but there is something even better and I got this idea by how you moved the axe head up in the air.... How about you use the skill to make the axe head or something sharp around and use it to attack? That way you will be far away from danger and could kill things." He stopped in order to let Barney sponge everything he said and he continued, "Gods, your skill makes me so envious, don't you want to test how far you can go with it? Just think about why you were given this skill, everyone got something but you especially got his one... why?"
'This sounded like therapy.' Lucas thought and felt that he messed up by speaking such shenanigans. Yet when he looked at the guy again, he had his eyes widened while looking at the axe head in his hand with new light.
He was not the only one, apparently, everyone was listening to the duo's conversation as there were none happening other than theirs and how interesting it was getting. The last thing Lucas said had worked wonders on everyone's mind. They in their own way thought that there was something special in them that got them these skills.
It may have just been random yet thinking like this could only help in this situation and the most bizarre thing was that Lucas didn't know how well he had done with that speech.
"... I guess you are right... Thank you so much...I really needed the boost." Barney said with a toothy smile that made Lucas surprised.
'It's the first time I am seeing a genuine smile on the guy.'
Just like that, they had already worked for a few hours and before they knew it, night had fallen already.
"Okay people, you did a great job doing all that in just three hours, I am proud of you all," John said while standing in front of the groups with a smile. Around them about two meters away from the shelter. There they were, the thin trunks that they had poured their hearts into to build.
With the help of Sean's buffs and everyone giving their all to help in their survival in any way. They had actually completed the whole construction. Around the shelter in a square, the thin trunks were erected in a cross manner. Two trunks were dug halfway in the ground criss-crossed to not let some creature of any size enter without notice. There was a 1.5 meter long gap in front of the shelter in order to make a gate there afterward for getting out.
Every spear that was erect on the ground had greenish color on the spike. It was from one of the plants Lucas brought alongside him in his pockets. The plant's property was simple, it was a mild poison that could make the wound that it was inside restless. The symptoms tend to start after a minute and could take at most three. Yet Lucas was happy that they were actually able to complete the whole project successfully.
The poison was obviously applied after they were erected in order to prevent any problems. Piles of dried leaves were kept in the 1.5-meter entrance of the fortifications in order to alert them.
But this was not the only good thing that happened, after the project was completed and when John gave his speech. Lucas got some notifications that were mind-blowing.
[Congratulations for making your first defenses!]
[The shelter is now protected from the crude defenses which will be taken as part of the territory.]
[The defenses can be upgraded by providing specific resources to the shelter.]
When Lucas looked at the defenses again, he could see a small blue dot on the entrance of the defense, the same one that was inside the shelter.
"What happened Lucas?" Sarah asked from the side making the others look at him too. His expression told everyone that he was dumbfounded by something but the next thing they saw, he was going toward the defense that was only four steps away.
"Is he okay?" Sean asked with his hands on his head.
Lucas clicked on the blue dot with anticipation, he gulped in excitement when finally, the text showed in front of him.
