The Kobold was holding the spear with life burning in its eyes, Lucas who had been very happy and excited all this time came to his right mind that the Kobold had not died till now.
His mind went to how a dying wounded lion is the fiercest and feared that the fact was getting checked in front of him.
The Kobold tried to take the spear out alas his hands slipped from all the blood. It was not the blood per see but the poison on the tip and a little back that was the very pulpy inside of the poisonous plant he once collected in his early expedition in the unknown jungle.
Lucas looked at the creature trying to hold on to the spear desperately and trying to get it out. It was a genuinely pitiful thing that made him a little guilty. His eyes went to John who had moved a little closer to Lucas. He was looking at the Kobold with heavy eyes as if some tears would come out any minute but he was still very serious.
The Kobold may have been a fierce creature but it was still a living being that looked like a human. Lucas was pretty excited about fighting these creatures. The Vixenox... the rapacious plant... and the Kobold yet the end result was always death which made Lucas a bit uneasy.
"This is the life we are in now... we have to be cold and survive... we have to kill... it's the only way to keep our families safe." Lucas said with a heavy heart while looking at John who was having a hard time. He didn't want the best fighter after him to break emotionally from just this much.
'Why is this man crying and I am not... am I too cold? But I feel guilty too... and yet not to this extent...' Lucas had a hard time figuring out his emotions while the Kobold only concentrated on the struggle of getting the spear out.
At this point, the poison had started working and its eyes were closing. The emotions on his face faded as it looked at Lucas right in the eyes.
THUD
Finally, it fell on its knees and while still staring at Lucas, its body fell from the front.
THUD!
The Kobold fell on his stomach which made the spear come out of the back without breaking. John went to the side and vomited a little, he looked at Lucas while cleaning his mouth with strange eyes.
"What?"

"W-What is this feeling?!" John asked while clenching both his chest tight.
"You just leveled up... Don't worry, everything is fine." Lucas said while feeling somewhat dizzy but after a few seconds, it was over.
Lucas thought about his strength and his information came in front of him.

"Basic spearmanship huh... Thats new. Oh... and the free points are here again! That's pretty good..." Lucas kept mumbling while looking at the status screen while John had a frown on his face.
"What? Why do you keep looking at me like that?" Lucas asked bluntly as it was now making him uncomfortable as if he was getting judged.
"Nothing... What's with these changes in my body?"
John said after making those emotions fade deep in his heart. He wanted to tell Lucas that the thing that they just killed had two feet that it used to walk like them and also two arms that were just like theirs.
But seeing that he was okay, John could only believe that Lucas had not thought about it like that, so he just left this important talk for later believing it would not be suitable if Lucas get emotional trauma.
'Ugh... I feel like we killed a human.' John thought but returned to the conversation where Lucas told him how these things worked.
John had killed various animals in all the years he lived on Earth. Whether it be a small bunny or a big stag... he had taken the lives of many but not something that looked like a human ever. It was like his first ever kill that he saw in many movies where people get a bit guilty after doing it. He knew the same things were happening to him and as the adult he was, he had to toughen it and move on with only time to heal these new emotional scars that stacked over many.

"So it's like this... do I put these free points right now?" John asked while reading through his status screen with interest.
"Not right now, after you use free points, you will definitely become vulnerable for a few minutes... so after we go back."
"Alright, Wow... I definitely feel stronger... Is this real or I am just imagining it?"
"I hate that no one was there when I got all this information, I feel like I am getting some deja-vu." Lucas facepalmed and groaned, he was envious of John and the others as he was there to tell them these things and there was no one for him but from another perspective, he was better than the others in terms of information of this world. Lucas continued, "This is not imagination and the strength you feel is real. It was just one point but the strength increase is something to look forward to."
"Ok, now what do we do with this thing?"
"Oh, we have to bring it with us... some things are useful in this thing." Lucas spoke and went to the Kobold's dead body.
John just looked at him with strange eyes, but in the end, he just shook his head and went to help him.
