Chapter 22 - Hmm?

"Hmm? Did you come to use our services?" Max exclaimed, quite surprised.

The thugs were very mad. They waited for this moment all night long. They drew their weapons and shouted: "Give us all of your coins!"

"Sorry I don't give coins to beggars. Ask the old lady. Maybe she will get you some." Max said with a flat tone.

"Relax. Being mad is bad for your health. You better get more vitamins and minerals, or your body will suffer. Am I right Derek?" Max asked.

Derek did not know what Max was talking about, so he just nodded.

One of the bandits could not take it anymore and charged at Max. It was the guy that broke his sword. He took another one from his comrade and was ready to smash those two guys into meat paste.

Max furrowed his brows and used his appraise skill on the thug:

"Name: Brook. Age:25. There is talent for warrior training. No talent for magic training. Level one knight apprentice."

"Yo Brook chill. Or God will not forgive you!" Max shouted.

The thug stopped. He was sure that this guy was not someone he knew.

"How do you know my name?" The thug asked.

"Well God told me. Also, he told me you need to be punished by the heavens! Take this!" Max shouted and used the skill lightning fall. At the same moment a lightning bolt blasted Brook from above and he turned into charcoal.

The two women from the church also looked at the scene from afar. When they saw a lightning bolt land on the thug from above out of nowhere, they were shocked. 'Is this guy really connected to god in some way?' The women duo thought.

The thugs became silent. No one dared to come closer or say any word. Raz was ready to forgive those guys for the offence of breaking his arm. He wanted to run away from this God forgotten place and don't come back even if he will be paid tenfold for his job.

"Alrighty guys now it's time for us to talk. Don't worry, the talk will not take long time. Who send you?" Max asked with a relaxed tone.

The bandits did not know how to respond. If they reveal their boss, they will be hunted down until death. There was no good exit strategy of this situation.

"Well, I guess the talk is over." Max said.

"Wait!" One of the thugs shouted but it was too late. Max shot a big fireball that turned those guys to ashes. He did not want to use the pyroblast skill here because it will damage the ground right in front of the entry to his gaming club. He did not want to destroy the positive experience of his potential customers. The fireball did not hit the ground. It went parallel to it until it lost its powers and disappeared. Derek stood behind Max and was not surprised at all. He saw people die like that before from the hands of this man. After the conflict was resolved the duo departed to the adventurer's guild to inform captain Alex to come with his troops to their club. Max did not want Derek to go alone because he thought that Derek could get ambushed and maybe even killed. Also, breathing fresh air never harmed anyone.

On their way to the guild, they saw the dumbfounded women duo standing at the entrance of the church. When Max saw them, he waved his hand at them and greeted: "Good morning, Ammy, Elena! Don't pay attention to those guys. God did not like their presence near the church, so I helped him. They will learn a lesson in the cycle of reincarnation. At least I hope they would. Anyway, have a good day!"

Both women felt shivers go down their spines. They waved back at the duo and entered the church.

"What the hell was that?" Elena asked in a quite tone. She did not want Max to hear her. She was not sure what he represented and what were his intentions in general.

"It seems that he is a strong mage. Someone like him should not be here. Maybe he is one of those hermits that roam the land for adventures." The old lady answered.

"If he is a hermit why he is so young?" Elena asked, puzzled.

"When a mage reaches a certain level, his lifespan increases. I'm not sure myself how it works. Mages don't like to tell strangers information about themselves. For now, he acts friendly towards us. Thats the important part. Do not insult him or his companion in any way. Just act in a friendly way like he does." Ammy answered.

"But what if he has malicious intentions towards us?" Elena asked, worried.

"We can't really do anything to retaliate of he tries something. We can just hope for the best." The old lady answered.

Elena sighed. She was sick and tired of being powerless against fate.

Max and Derek made their way to the adventurer's guild. The road leading to the guild was more familiar, so they got there pretty quickly. It took them around half an hour to get to their destination. When they entered the guild Max stood in line for the same attendant from yesterday. That clerk got really nervous after she saw the duo line up in the queue of people waiting for her.

After around another 20 minuets the duo's turn arrived. Max did not wait for the attendant to speak and said: "Tell the captain to come to the church. He will see another building near it. It is my gaming club that he needs to visit. It will be better if they come today."

After that he turned around and was about to leave when the attendant stopped him: "Mister Max, please wait. The guild master wants to meet with you."

"Hmm... now?" Max asked while rubbing his chin. He did not mind speaking with the guild master. He wanted to see what he represented.

"Wait for a moment. I need to go and check." The attendant left the table and ran upstairs. The adventurer's guild was a big 3 floor building. The first floor was allocated as a reception for different adventurers. the second floor was designed for the guards and other personal with different facilities located in there. The third floor was the residence of the guild master.

After a short time, the attendant got down with an old man. Max scanned the man and was pleasantly surprised:

"Name: Felix. Age:60. There is talent for warrior and magic training. Level one knight."
