Chapter 40 - Long Time No See!

"If my mom knew that you lied to her, I can't imagine how disappointed she will be to a woman she has just met." Those words, coupled with a sneer on his face, really didn't sound like he was pitying his mom.

"If you decide to tell her, then it can't be helped. It's not my job to keep your mom happy." Nana coldly responded. The tears disappeared as soon as she blinked her eyes.

Kevin shrugged his shoulder and crossed his long legs. "I'm straight."

That came out of blue. He even looked straight into Nana's eyes, in hope that he could see any shame or guilt in her eyes. But, Nana was the girl who even fooled an actor, how could her expression be so easy to read if she decided to hide what's inside her heart?

"Oh." That was her response. The light in her eyes remained the same. Indifferent, as if what he said didn't concern her at all.

Well, it didn't.

However, her response had triggered something in Kevin's mind. He was obviously displeased with how she looked indifferent after that indecent thought ran in her mind during their first meet. Did she think he didn't know what was running through her head at that time? He had seen the same contempt in the other's eyes before so he was familiar with it. Those looks in their eyes would change into guilty and awkwardness after he confronted them but the same trick didn't work on the young lady in front of him.

"Do you want me to prove it to you?" Gritted his teeth, Kevin felt like his patience was running low talking to this woman.

"Don't you feel ashamed of what you just said?" Nana frowned. She didn't bother to hide the pure disgust in her voice and expression.

As a man, Kevin's pride was pricked. His face darkened and danger emitted from his body. His jaw tightened as his eyes shot deadly glare at Nana.

It was supposed to be intimidating, but Nana refused to be intimidated. Leaning back on her chair, her whole body exuded fierce aura, ready to swallow anyone who would recklessly make a move on her. The light in her eyes dimmed to the point they were shooting biting cold stares at her opponent.

It was a tough mental battle between two people. The surrounding air seemed to drop one or two degrees due to their silent battle. They were sitting out in the open air, and the weather was particularly warmer in the city, but after their clash, the temperature seemed to drop.

If Mu Yang were around, he would have made some jealousy remarks since the way they were sitting face to face with their bodies leaning back was exactly the same with how he first confronted her in her suite room. It was only if he ignored the unfriendly staring contest between Nana and Kevin which was way different when she was with him.

"Young lady, you'd better behave yourself and don't make assumptions." In the end, Kevin was the one who broke the silence between the both of them.

"Did you hear me saying something?" She was talking about their very first meeting in the restaurant.

"No, but..."

"There. You have the answer. You're the one making assumptions." She still sounded indifferent.

Kevin wanted to retort back but he didn't know what else he could say. He couldn't be unreasonable and shameless that he would use any means to force her to bow out. As much as he hated being defeated by this young woman, his rationality took the best of him and pulled him back quickly, before he could embarrass himself further.

"Don't let me catch you with indecent thought again." Kevin stood up and left after giving her his last warning.

"As if you can tell about it." Nana rolled her eyes at him but she ignored him as he walked passed her seat and returned to his friends who, unknown to her, were watching the whole action from the VIP Room's window.

After he left, Nana breathed out a heavy sigh. It was a good thing she had trained her reaction and expression. Otherwise, she would be caught the moment he appeared.

But, how did he know what she had in mind at that time? Nana was pondering the possible reason while staring blankly towards the dark horizon. The only reason that seemed plausible was he was used to be judged like that so he developed a natural radar and understanding of it.

Hehe, poor guy. Being too attractive sometimes could bring a misfortune for the person himself.

Nana took a sip of her drink and realized that the drink had long gotten cold. She sighed and pondered whether she should order a new drink or not. After a while, she decided that she should just get up and return to her hotel room. It wouldn't be good for her to sit here by herself.

As soon as she finished collecting herself, she got up and approached the cashier to pay for her orders.

"Hi. I'll pay for this lady's bill." A hand reached out from behind her and talked amiably in a slightly breathless voice. A card was shoved towards the cashier's hand who was dumbfounded with the turn of event in front of her eyes.

Nana was startled and she turned her body quickly to see the owner of the card. A familiar yet not so familiar face entered her sight. She knew that warm smile, the way the corner of his eyes crooked upwards when he smiled and the way his smile would easily turn from a warm smile to a nervous one.

Nana was too stunned to speak and when she realized what happened, the transaction has finished and she was standing face to face with the owner of the nervous smile near the exit gate.

"Hi. Long time no see." The man greeted her.

Nana didn't respond to his greetings. She didn't even smile back at him. Instead, her eyes squinted and her jaw hardened. She was indifferent to him, as if they were really distant.

As someone who knew her, this man would probably have noticed that the way she was treating him right now was worse than when she met her own enemy.
