Chapter 2 - SAVED BY A TREE?

"WHERE YOU GOING, MAX?! WE JUST WANNA PLAY!" Justin screamed from behind me.

"Come on man! Cut me some slack!" I complained as I run for dear life through the Dalmon forest.

"You know damn well I can't. Do you have any idea what my father will do to me once I tell him of my 3 months suspension?! I'll be a dead man by then; but don't worry, I'll make sure to drag you down to hell along with me!" he said with some energy, as his voice got awfully closer.

"Oh, lucky me," I muttered, increasing my pace.

Even a full day hadn't passed before he came for me. I was just making my way back to my house(can I even call it that? It's not much of a house to begin with), peacefully minding my own business a few hours just after clearing myself from the camp, and he just came up out of nowhere and ambushed me in the forest on my way home.

All my life I've never known why he hates me. Maybe he's just that insane? Maybe his brain is too microscopic to realize that bullying me won't give him what he wants? Probably, but one thing I'm certain of, is that if I let him catch me, I'll be in a whole world full of pain.

"The more you run, the more you delay the inevitable, you weasel!" he shouted, "You know you can't outrun me even with an ability so why try?"

"Leave me alone! Get a life you damn cat!"

"Cat? You dare call on of the most powerful lyfers(half–lion, half-human) a mere cat! Boy, I'm gonna make you eat those words you little pun–"

"Shudup, you snot nosed-pansy! Yeah I called you a cat, what of it? Think you can catch up to me?! I'm only using 0.00001% of my speed! And where is that lackey of yours?!" I asked while I dodged a root in my way. How he can hear me with all this wind around, only the gods know.

"Who you calling a lackey, rodent?" a whisper caught my ear.

"Shi–" even before I could finish cursing, a fist connected with my face, sending me crashing to some nearby rocks with the momentum of my running.

But I knew that I had to get up quickly, or suffer at the hands of these bullies yet again. But the second I tried to get up, I immediately coughed up a pool of blood. Damn this weak body!

I stared at Dustin in hatred, who had just began reforming back to a Morat(half-mole, half-human) after doing his part to stop me.

"Forgot about your ability to travel through the ground. Wish you'd just crawl back to whatever hole you came from," I said, and gave him the middle finger.

"Oh now you've done it. I thought about going easy on you for today, but since you were so generous enough as to give me the finger, I guess I'll have to make an exception just this once."

My body stiffened when he said that. If him going easy on me was that painful, what suffering would I have to go through now?

"The....re.. yo....u ar...e....punk!" Justin panted as he finally caught up to where we were, "Thou.....ght yo...u co...uld out....run me?"

"Clearly. You know, you could stand to loose some weight, Garfield," I said, giving him a bloody smile.

His eyebrows twitched in irritation before he asked, "Do you have a death wish?"

I knew I was courting death but I just didn't care anymore. I'm tried of sucking up to this two and they'ld still beat me half to death!

"Try me you chikas!" I said while balling my fists in defense.

"Seems like you've forgotten your place, Max. I guess one less furrha in the world wouldn't count for a loss," Dustin smirked as he took out a black card with the head of a skeleton drawn at the back. My eyes widened in shock when I realized what it was.

"You wouldn't."

"Too late for that, Randoff," he said, took a deep breath, then began chanting the spell.

"From the depths of hell, I summon the undead general Tye, to vanquish thy enemy before me: DARTH RISE!"

Immediately he said those words, the black card burst into black flames as dark mist began swirling around the area. A second later, the dark mist condensed to form a well armored black skeleton with deep hollow eyes that brought fear to anyone who dared stare at them.

"Don't you think you're going a bit far with this?" Justin asked with a hint of fear in his voice while looking at the undead. Something tells me he had no idea about this plan of Dustin.

"Nonsense. Provided we return it back, no one will ever find out about this, right?" he brushed it off, but he too seemed like he wasn't sure he could manage that thing.

"Wow! A grade A undead beast for lil' old me? You shouldn't have," I said forcing a smile, but in reality sweating buckets.

A grade A undead at its peak against a grade D furrha with only looks and at its middle stage?! Well, I guess I must have really pissed him off because to use such a powerful card against a weak monster like me ain't something just anyone does for fun. This was real serious. And deadly.

"I he...ar an...d o....bey," it spoke to Dustin.

"Kill him! Make it slow and painful, and wipe his existence off the face of Razor!" Dustin shouted , emitting a powerful killing intent while pointing at me with a deranged look. Has he either gone mad, or I'm I just that good with insults?

"Well, it's been fun, but gotta run!" I said and quickly turned to run deeper into the forest . I knew this was a life and death situation, so I didn't hold back and used my full speed even though I knew it was hopeless.

I know I have a good level of speed, but that would have never been good enough for a grade A undead.

"You... can't.... ru..n from... me," it said with its speech impairment right behind me.

The second it spoke, I felt a sharp edge sword pierce my back and watched in horror as the head of the bony sword the skeleton carried protrude through my stomach, forcing me to slow down.

Even before coming to a complete stop, a bony hand backslapped me without warning, almost knocking out all of my teeth off in the process. Thankuflly, that didn't happen, but the force was strong enough to throw me towards a large tree, cushioning my fall.

I knew these things were strong, but fast too?!

From there, the skeleton appeared right in front of me, and begun poundimg me blow after blow that all made contact with my weak body, my mind barely managing to hold on to dear sanity due to the amount of pain I was subjected to.

Time seemed to flow really slowly as I almost passed out due to the otherworldly pain I felt. Eventually, all my limps were numb and facing an unnatural angle with my bones broken beyond repair. Thoughts of seeing my family came to mind as I finally felt my life sliping from my grasp.

"Huh, so this is how it ends. My miserable existence to this verse. No girlfriend, no friends even, to mourn me. Families dead, I'd have probably joined then sooner if not today. *sigh* At least, I'm going down the monster way. The only good thing about my pathetic life," I thought pitifully as I accepted the embrace of death.

"And..... now..... you..... DIE!" the skeleton said as it raised it sword.

*Do you wish to be saved?* an ominous voice asked suddenly.

"What?" I asked. I must have really done insane to be hearing voices in my head.

*Answer the question. You have ten seconds,* the same voice said.

Why should I answer this unknown voice? I was just about to die in peace! But... I still have some regrets in this world. And I'm still not sure whether my parents really are dead or not.... Look at that! I still have something to live for!

"Yes! Please save me!"

*Good answer. Before anything else , lets deal with this small fry,* it said.

As the undead went to deliver the finishing blow, it stopped mid way as it stared up on the tree. In its hallow eyes, I could see some fear as it slowly started backing away.

"You..... should....not.... be..... here!" it spoke.

*On whose authority?* the same deep ominous voice said.*I despise the undead. They give me the creeps. BEGONE!*

I turned my head and saw the branches of the tree slowly extending outwards to the undead. It screamed in pain as it was slowly turned into dark particles that were immediately absorbed by the branches.

And now I could finally black out in peace. For the second time of the day.
